Chapter 1924: New Employee Onboarding

The young man Lin Guang's expression gradually calmed down, clearly he agreed with those words.
The tall man's focus wasn't on educating him either, but rather on speaking to Xu Huo, the newcomer and rookie.
"You'll get used to it slowly." The tall man patted Xu Huo on the shoulder.
Xu Huo couldn't help but ask, "Robbery and theft can be ignored, but what about deaths? You don't handle those either?"
The tall man acted as if he had heard a joke, "How could we manage? Not to mention those lower-class people outside, even with so many of our inspectors dead, who can find out who did it?"
Lin Guang interjected, "You've just arrived and don't understand the situation yet. Just our branch alone receives thousands of cases every day, and over a dozen murder cases. With our limited manpower, we simply can't keep up. Besides, if the aircraft doesn't find the perpetrator when reporting the case, it's basically impossible to track them down afterward."
"And this is still the result of us patrolling every day."
Xu Huo fell silent after hearing this, "Leaving others aside for now, but colleagues you work with every day being killed..."
The smile on the tall man's face also faded, "Although colleagues are replaced quickly, when someone you were just eating and drinking with suddenly becomes a corpse, no one would feel good about it. But it's not just civilians targeting inspectors—there's also the Rebel Army."
Just the mention of "Rebel Army" made Lin Guang's face twitch, and then he burst out with hatred, "One day I'll kill them all!"
Xu Huo remained silent.
At this point, the "interrogation" also ended. The bald man tossed a handful of bloodstained cash and accessories onto the table, "That's all there is. All that effort I put in was a waste. Lock him up for a few days first, until someone comes to redeem him."
The tall man then walked over with a grin and threw a stack of money onto the table, "Enough for a late-night snack."
Hearing about a late-night snack, several people on duty all came running out, grabbed their guns, and cheerfully said they were heading out.
"Let the new guy get some experience." The tall man gestured for Lin Guang and Xu Huo to stay and keep watch, then instructed Lin Guang, "Go to the warehouse and get him a service pistol, so he won't be afraid to go home at night."
Apart from the few who had been brought back, only Lin Guang and Xu Huo, two inspectors, remained in the building now.
Lin Guang led Xu Huo to the warehouse while saying, "If you have nowhere to go tonight, you can rough it here at the Supervision Department. It's at least safer than other places."
Xu Huo nodded but couldn't help asking, "With so many machines and people in the Supervision Department, can't you really catch even a single member of the Rebel Army? When an inspector dies, doesn't headquarters react?"
"We're all ordinary people. The Rebel Army has players among them. How can we catch them?" Lin Guang said. "They're good at disguising themselves. Sometimes they could be standing right in front of you and you wouldn't recognize them. That's the gap between ordinary people and players. I heard that in the past, Rebel Army players even infiltrated the Supervision Department, and a lot of people died."
His voice dropped again, "People from the West District—our lives don't matter to the East District. When someone dies, they just fill the position with someone new."
But after saying that, he felt it was wrong, so he forced a smile again, "Don't worry either. You're a newcomer, so you won't be assigned to night patrols... Let's look at the guns first."
He pushed open the warehouse door.
The weapons in the warehouse were divided into two groups. Those on the right were all displayed on racks, including not only the black thin-tube guns the bald man and his team carried, but also various oddly shaped weapons.
"Forget about the laser cannon." Lin Guang said. "It won't be unlocked without a major operation."
He casually picked an eighty-percent-new thin-tube gun from the table on the left and handed it to Xu Huo, "These are all reclaimed. They're no different from new ones."
Xu Huo touched the cold metal, picked it up, and examined it carefully. The inspectors' service pistols were very different from the guns on the aircraft. The aircraft guns still needed bullets, while the main body of the inspector's pistol was a reaction chamber. It was designed slightly larger to fit the hand, with a barrel as long as a finger and thinner than a pinky. The black, shiny color gave it a highly technological feel.
The trigger was a button that required the inspector's fingerprint authentication to activate.
Xu Huo didn't touch the button. After choosing his instance identity, he should have been disguised by the game. When he picked up the wallet, he felt a special power enveloping him. Sure enough, when the inspector tackled him, the three people and two aircraft that came didn't see through his identity. This disguise power should come from the wallet or its contents. Although he had immediately put the items he was wearing into the item slot, his fingerprints couldn't be faked so easily.
"All the fingerprints on these guns have been wiped clean. Just register yours." Lin Guang said. "The first person to input their fingerprint becomes the gun's owner. Only internal Supervision Department personnel can use them. Even if someone else steals them, they can't kill anyone."
Xu Huo indicated he understood, then received a watch terminal from Lin Guang. The watch terminal, like the service pistol, was essential for inspectors. It also contained a positioning chip, making it easy for colleagues to know each other's locations.
From the terminal, he could log into the Supervision Department account. The inspectors' salary payments and work attendance were all recorded there.
Xu Huo roughly looked over the attendance system and salary structure, finding that the basic salary for inspectors was based on the East District's average wage—enough to survive but not get rich. For such a high-risk job as an inspector, the compensation was clearly too low.
"New employees get a three-thousand housing allowance for the first month. Although that's not enough to rent a place near the Shadow Wall, you might still find something close to that area." Lin Guang said.
"Where do you live?" Xu Huo asked.
"Also near the Shadow Wall." Lin Guang didn't give a specific address but said, "I'm renting with a friend."
Xu Huo nodded, saying he would rough it here for the night and look for a place tomorrow morning.
Lin Guang didn't say much more. He gave him a document to familiarize himself with the Supervision Department's work, then went down to the first floor.
Only then did Xu Huo have time to learn about the overall situation of Jade Spring City through the Message Collection Terminal.
The general background of the instance had already been explained. The East and West Districts were separated, not only to move the original residents and poor people of Jade Spring City out, but also to relocate heavily polluting enterprises and factories to the West District, squeezing the already limited living space there.
It was worth mentioning that due to the tight land in the West District, underground development had been carried out early on based on the terrain. The Supervision Department branch where Xu Huo reported was on the third level. Judging from the street map, the residential areas of the West District were more like terraced fields, with buildings going both up and down, very chaotic. New buildings mixed with old ones, resulting in houses everywhere, extremely crowded.
It was precisely because of this unique urban structure that even with aircraft flying nonstop day and night, it was still difficult to effectively monitor the entire West District.
Harsh living conditions combined with a complex social structure turned the West District into a high-crime area, while the East District, just a wall away, became a paradise everyone longed for.
