Chapter 1913: The Mayor's Wife with a Different Style
Xin Rong, as if he had no friends, insisted on taking him to "find some fun," but before he could put it into action, Yan Fang appeared again, this time representing Bai Kou to come looking for him.
When Xu Huo left, Xin Rong's gaze toward him had shifted from envy to jealousy.
Bai Kou was a busy person. Her daily routine involved handling quite a bit of city government affairs, and after the Lang family incident, the Platinum Eye seemed to have undergone some changes, so she could only squeeze in time to do her own things.
When Xu Huo arrived at the Mechanical Castle again, she was discussing a new energy weapon design with several weapon R&D personnel.
"You can go back for now. Draft this design temporarily and make a sample to test the effect." She dismissed the researchers, raised her hand, and the table in front of her automatically slid away, while another table moved over, on which her study materials were placed.
She placed "Angel's Eyes" on the table, sat down, and said, "Let's begin."
"Aren't you afraid of exhausting yourself like this?" Xu Huo glanced at the tea on the table, which had long gone cold. "The Platinum Eye wouldn't stop turning just because you're not there, would it?"
Hearing his meaningful words, Bai Kou looked up. "Don't stir up trouble for no reason. The faster I evolve, the sooner I can return the Primordial Stone to you."
Xu Huo stood across from her. "I don't understand why you're so fixated on Temporal Super Evolution. Have you ever considered that you might not have the talent for it?"
Bai Kou's face darkened. "What are you trying to say?"
Xu Huo seemed unaware of her anger and said bluntly, "I believe you don't have the talent for Temporal Super Evolution."
The moment the words fell, a torrent of spiritual power surged toward him, but it retracted the next second. Bai Kou looked away. "I won't argue with someone who's sick. If you don't want to help, you can leave."
Xu Huo not only didn't leave but went a step further, finding a comfortable spot to sit down on his own. He scrutinized Bai Kou. "I haven't seen you this rushed before. Is there something urgent you need to do? Do you need my help?"
"Can you help?" Bai Kou met his gaze with a hint of sarcasm.
"Hard to say," Xu Huo gestured with his chin toward "Angel's Eyes." "Isn't this my help?"
Bai Kou was angry but couldn't deny he was right.
"Is the Platinum Eye preparing for war?" Xu Huo probed.
"Don't worry, it won't come to that." Bai Kou paused, then emphasized, "Even without a Temporal Super Evolver, the Platinum Eye can defend itself."
"I've heard too many words like that these past two days, but generally, the more absolute the statement, the easier it is to be proven wrong." Xu Huo said, "It's not that I don't want to believe in the Platinum Eye; it's that I don't trust others."
There's always a sky beyond the sky, and people beyond people. Who can say for sure?
Bai Kou leaned back, slightly raising her chin, her gaze dropping downward. "Two children who have nothing to do with you—are they worth exhausting yourself over?"
"How can you say they have nothing to do with me? From the moment I met them, the connection existed." Xu Huo met her gaze. "I brought them out, and I must ensure their safety."
"You're so kind-hearted." It was impossible to tell whether it was sarcasm or praise. Bai Kou said this, then added, "What I need to do has nothing to do with the Lang family. You don't have to worry about attracting external enemies."
"You've met Xin Rong, so you should have learned about the Energy Conversion Chip from him. I'm looking for the chip."
"I thought the Platinum Eye had already obtained it." Xu Huo raised an eyebrow slightly.
"If I had obtained it, that engagement wouldn't have happened..." Bai Kou's expression flickered at this point, but she quickly masked her emotions and added ambiguously, "Some people aren't afraid of choking themselves to death."
She stopped there, pointed to the door to indicate he should leave, and refocused her attention on the Primordial Stone.
Just then, Yan Fang's voice suddenly rang out in the room, "Miss Kou, the Mayor's wife will arrive at the Mechanical Castle in thirty seconds."
Bai Kou's expression instantly turned cold. She immediately put away "Angel's Eyes" and waved her hand to replace the study desk in the room with an office desk covered in city government documents. After doing this, she suddenly looked at Xu Huo, squinted her eyes, and said, "Don't leave just yet."
"Need my help?" Xu Huo brought up the old topic.
"You'll find out soon enough." Bai Kou's face carried an inexplicable hint of a smile.
About half a minute later, several footsteps approached from outside the door. As Yan Fang pushed the door open and stepped aside, a woman in a pearl-white robe walked in gracefully. Her skin was snow-white, her hair black as ink, her features beautiful, and her temperament outstanding. She seemed to have stepped out of a painting—dazzlingly beautiful, as if she belonged to a different world from those around her.
As soon as this beautiful woman entered, she gazed at Bai Kou with tender, water-like eyes, gently opening her arms. "Come, let Mommy hold you. Mommy hasn't seen you in a long time."
Bai Kou's face visibly turned ugly. "Say what you need to say directly."
The Mayor's wife withdrew her hands and gently placed them on her chest, her expression somewhat sorrowful. "Mommy came specifically to see you. Don't you miss Mommy?"
It was clear that Bai Kou was struggling to suppress her anger. "I have things to do. If you're bored, go do some charity work and spread your readily available maternal love."
These words didn't shake the Mayor's wife in the slightest, but they made Xu Huo involuntarily look at Bai Kou—although Bai Kou wasn't known for her good temper, she rarely treated people with such harshness.
The Mayor's wife seemed to finally notice there was another living person in the room. She looked at him gently. "Are you Kou Kou's friend? Kou Kou has never brought a friend home before. Come closer and let me have a look."
The players who had come with the Mayor's wife didn't even enter the room. After Yan Fang opened the door, he also stayed outside. Now, only three people were in the room. When the Mayor's wife spoke, Bai Kou's gaze also shifted over.
Xu Huo stood rooted to the spot, nodding in greeting. "Hello, Auntie."
This "Auntie" caused subtle changes in the expressions of the two women in the room, though both seemed somewhat displeased.
The Mayor's wife, whose beauty was of a different style, gently touched her own face with her right hand, her smile growing even warmer. "I've never heard such a form of address from any of Kou Kou's friends. You're a good child. Would you like to go with Kou Kou to meet her little sister?"
"Bang!" Bai Kou slammed her hand heavily on the table, stood up, and stared coldly at the Mayor's wife. "You can leave now."
"This child..." The Mayor's wife looked hurt, quickly walked over to Bai Kou, took her hand, and said, "How can you treat your loving mother like this?"
Bai Kou exuded resistance from head to toe, but she didn't pull her hand away. Instead, she looked at the other woman and said, "The Platinum Eye is mine. You can't take it away. After your third husband dies, I'll make sure you can never return to this place again."
