Chapter 1912: Maybe No Talent
Bai Kou concentrated, following his description to complete the visualization. She could perceive space rays, and theoretically, she should be able to understand it more easily than the average person. But no matter what, she simply couldn't grasp the existence of time rays, and she didn't even have a concrete impression of the power released by the Primordial Stone.
After another failed attempt, she shook her head. "It's no use. Do you have any other auxiliary items?"
"Haven't you tried auxiliary items before?" Xu Huo countered. If anyone had more of those, it should be her.
"My words aren't false," he paused, then added, "My evolution started more by chance."
Bai Kou was silent for a few seconds before refocusing on the "Angel's Eyes." Closing her eyes, she said, "Describe the feeling during evolution in more detail."
Xu Huo once again explained his understanding of time power, and his more specific perception of time rays after being able to sense them. This included the crisscrossing network of time rays that permeated space, layer upon layer and interconnected like a web, as well as how to penetrate space barriers to sense the time power within other spaces.
"Being able to break through space barriers to sense time rays in other spaces should be the foundation for using time rays. Unlike space power, which extends from near to far, time rays require borrowing other time powers to achieve the goal."
After hearing his words, Bai Kou asked slowly, "And how is precognition achieved?"
"I really don't know that," Xu Huo said. "It was also achieved by chance. I wasn't using time power."
He had only just crossed the threshold and wasn't at the level of directly using time power yet.
"You sure have a lot of 'chances,'" Bai Kou said sarcastically.
"Just lucky, I guess," Xu Huo smiled. "What can I say, I have good fortune."
But three hours passed, and Bai Kou had nothing to show for it except being drenched in sweat from exhaustion.
"Take a break," Xu Huo said, handing her a handkerchief.
Bai Kou wiped her face. "It's too late today. You go back first. Come to the Mechanical Castle tomorrow morning, and I'll take you to meet Old Lady Lu."
"Get some rest," Xu Huo nodded, then left the Mechanical Castle.
At the hotel, Xiao Yuan and Tan Qi had fallen asleep on the sofa waiting for him. Tan Qi was more alert and woke up quickly. Seeing he was fine, he shook Xiao Yuan awake. "Uncle is back. Go to your room and sleep."
Xiao Yuan groggily got up, rubbed his eyes, and followed Tan Qi away.
Watching the two children enter their respective rooms, Xu Huo sat down with a glass of water and flipped through some materials on Super Evolution, mostly from the luggage compartments of those B-rank players.
Everyone wanted Super Evolution and usually paid attention to relevant information. But for those who could do it, there was no need to read many books, and for those who could only read books, it had little practical effect. Different Super Evolvers also had different evolutionary paths, so universally applicable experience was rare, unless it was between people who had already started and were on the same path, like Ms. Gong who had once guided him.
Going from 0 to 1 was especially difficult.
Bai Kou had started dual evolution in Mental and Space paths very early on. She must have explored many directions for Time Evolution. Her failure so far might genuinely mean she had no talent in that area.
He also tried buying some auxiliary tools from the Bounty Platform and Under Dimension. After trying them one by one and finding no special gains, he put them aside and went back to his room to sleep.
The next day, he woke up quite late again. When he got up, Xiao Yuan and the others had already eaten breakfast. They enthusiastically served him breakfast and then expressed their concern about his illness.
To repay their care, after breakfast, he went to a nearby bookstore on Xin Rong's recommendation and bought quite a bit of study materials, distributing them equally to the two.
"Don't neglect your studies while learning to make artifacts."
Seeing the stack of books nearly as tall as themselves, the two children's anxiety instantly shifted.
After packing up, Xu Huo checked out of the hotel and took them to the Mechanical Castle. Bai Kou had already changed from her casual clothes into the Platinum Eye uniform. As she got into the car, she said, "I'll drop you off and say hello to the old lady. I have things to do afterward, so you're on your own."
"You're this busy every day?" Xu Huo asked. "When do you do instances?"
"Instances? If I want to go, I can always find the time." Bai Kou maintained her usual aloof demeanor, but it was clear she was in a bad mood.
Xu Huo didn't push her. When they arrived at Old Lady Lu's residence, Bai Kou greeted the elderly woman and pointed to the two children. "This is what I mentioned to you yesterday."
Old Lady Lu was very kind and easygoing with her. Even though Bai Kou seemed rushed, she didn't mind at all. She took her hand and said, "Don't overwork yourself. Get some rest."
"I know," Bai Kou smiled faintly, nodded to Fang Jie who was bringing tea, and left first.
"Young people, who knows what they're so busy with all day," Old Lady Lu said, watching her go.
"Miss Kou Kou recently took over half the Armed Robot permissions, remember? She's very busy every day now." Fang Jie served tea to Xu Huo and then said, "Mr. Xu, this is your second visit."
The old lady's gaze finally swept over Xu Huo, but it was only a brief glance. She called the two children over to have some cookies.
Xu Huo tactfully presented the tuition fee—two Subclass Stones with special attributes from the Ember Maiden instance rewards.
Seeing this, the old lady adjusted her glasses. "You're quite generous. What can such young children learn? You might not even get your tuition's worth back."
"It doesn't matter. As long as they learn something, it's worth it," Xu Huo said. "Besides, I got the item last time and haven't thanked you in person. The effect of the Life Flashback far exceeded my expectations."
Old Lady Lu was confident in her skills. She gestured for Fang Jie to accept the two Subclass Stones and said, "I won't take your stones for nothing. I'll make two self-defense items for the children another day. If they have talent, I'll take them on as my apprentices."
Xu Huo smiled and thanked her, telling the two children to pour her tea.
Neither child was clumsy. They immediately gathered around, calling her "Grandma" repeatedly.
Who doesn't like cute kids? The old lady, sticking to her old style, grabbed a handful of small toys for them to play with. Then she brought up the contaminated ore Xu Huo had brought last time.
When he had commissioned the "Life Flashback," Xu Huo had left the massive stone from the High-Risk Instance here. At the time, the old lady had said the stone wasn't a Subclass Stone. Although it could still be used to make items, items crafted from radioactive ore were less effective and the process was more unstable.
But she had still crafted it.
At her signal, Fang Jie pushed out a half-arm-high box from another room. Opening it revealed a transparent isolation cover, inside which were countless thumb-sized black balls.
