Chapter 1814: The Outsider in the Small Building
The silent explosion came from a player on the Safe Zone side. Not only could he silently demolish buildings, but he could also bind himself to a person without the Small City players’ awareness, resulting in a young player being blown to death on the spot!
With casualties on the Small City player side, the White-Haired Player swiftly killed a Safe Zone player in retaliation and then used an alarm sound to signal his companions to retreat—it should have been a retreat or some other tactical maneuver, because after the sound, everyone from the Small City side retreated toward the city center.
The residents of Small City had already scattered and hidden in various places within the city earlier. Although the Safe Zone players had entered with a grand show of force to find them, they were also clear that the primary task was to deal with the Small City players, so they immediately pursued.
The two sides sprinted and chased each other across buildings and streets, occasionally clashing, and with that silent explosion added in, destruction rampaged all the way toward the Government Office Building.
Many places in Small City were uninhabited. The Government Office Building was roughly at the city center. Beyond that line, numerous traps had been set up in advance. The Small City players were likely trying to lure the Safe Zone players over there.
“There’s still someone here!” Xiao Zhao and Xiao Song had long since left. No one on the Small City side had time to bother with Xu Huo, but the Safe Zone players didn’t know Xu Huo’s background. Someone passing by just happened to see a person “hiding” inside a house.
“There’s a straggler!” the Tattooed-Headed Man sneered. “Probably injured. Drag him out!”
The two players beside him immediately changed course toward Xu Huo’s location. One went through the door, the other through the window. Their speed wasn’t slow, as if they wanted to launch a lightning strike. However, before they could charge in, they suddenly hung suspended at the door and window, blood flowing from their necks, chests, and abdomens, then dripping down their arms and legs onto the ground.
Their throats and chests had been pierced by transparent blades. Because they were stained with blood, it could be seen that the blades that killed them varied in width and shape, not fixed like a typical item.
The blades quickly disappeared, and the two corpses were left on the ground. The person behind the half-closed door and window hadn’t even shown his face.
“Could Fu Yi be back?” a player came to the Tattooed-Headed Man and whispered.
The Tattooed-Headed Man remained silent, then nodded to a short companion at a distance. That person silently approached the house and drew a short blade from his waist.
The Tattooed-Headed Man and other Safe Zone players watched him in confusion, but the short player was even more bewildered. However, it didn’t last a second before his expression turned panicked—because he aimed the short blade at his own throat!
The Safe Zone players were startled as well, then knocked the short blade out of his hand from a distance. The Tattooed-Headed Man stared at the house and shouted, “Tear off the roof! I don’t believe we can’t get him out!”
With the distraction, the others naturally wouldn’t get too close. Two players, maintaining a sufficient distance, each drew their items and swung them at the house. Two destructive light arcs sliced the entire small building crosswise into four pieces. Then the Tattooed-Headed Man grabbed at the small building with both hands, directly crushing the cut brick walls before reaching inside the house.
They had kept a certain distance from the small building, but it wasn’t far enough. Amidst the rising dust, a black light over a hundred meters long, centered on the house, quickly swept through 180 degrees, cutting the two players who had destroyed the house in half at the waist—the Tattooed-Headed Man was also within this range, but as the black light swept past, he suddenly dropped to the ground, dodging the attack.
It was probably some special life-saving item.
Having successfully saved his life, the Tattooed-Headed Man turned and fled without a second word. The black light covered a range of one hundred meters, so he needed to maintain at least that distance to be safe.
Of course, beyond a hundred meters, most attack items were basically ineffective against C and D-level players. And Xu Huo had nearly killed half of them without even showing his face. Whether in strength or items, he far surpassed them—there was no comparison. What was there to fight?
Some ran toward the city outskirts, others ducked into the station. Only one person stood still.
“Hurry up and go! What are you standing there like an idiot for!” someone called to him.
The short player responsible for the explosions stood frozen, his mouth open, his forehead covered in sweat. He didn’t dare respond to his companion’s shouts, just stared at the collapsed house.
Now the dust had settled. Xu Huo, completely unharmed and not even a speck of dust on him, slowly walked out from inside, smiling. “Don’t move recklessly. What you just swallowed is a remote bomb. If it goes beyond a certain range without a signal feedback, it will automatically detonate.”
“Boom! Your stomach will bloom like those houses earlier.”
“Mm, lucky you didn’t run straight into the game.”
The short player was almost in tears. He didn’t dare run, didn’t dare kneel, so he just kept his mouth open and begged for mercy.
This was inspired by the super item from Zone 019 last time. Although this method might not kill high-level players, it was enough to fool someone not too bright.
All the other Safe Zone players had fled. The Small City side hadn’t expected such a turn of events. After sending some people to chase the escapees, the rest came over to Xu Huo.
Xu Huo was questioning the short player.
“Never seen… never seen him… but I’ve heard of him. I heard he fought for territory with outer zone players in the Sand Sea Center and got chased out. Wherever he wandered to a Safe Zone, that Safe Zone would have bad luck. Everyone treated him like a jinx… Later, he disappeared. No one knows if he died or went to another district…”
The short player spoke through tears and snot, then added, “That’s all I know. I just became a D-level player. I don’t know anything. And I’m not a Cannibal Player. I’ve never killed anyone to eat. I only scavenged corpses when I was starving… A lot of people in Zone 010 have eaten corpses. I just want to survive… Don’t kill me… Please don’t kill me… I have a disabled uncle to support. If I die, he’ll starve too…”
Xu Huo raised his hand to stop him. “I won’t kill you for now. But if you leave on your own…”
“I won’t leave! Absolutely not!” the short player quickly promised.
Xu Huo turned to the approaching Small City players and said, “I’m taking this person with me.”
The White-Haired Player quickly said, “Can I ask him a few questions?”
Xu Huo made a “go ahead” gesture.
The Small City players were concerned about any ambushes from the Safe Zone side. The short player was clearly not loyal to his companions and spilled everything.
To summarize briefly, the Safe Zone had gained two new B-level Cannibal Players—one was originally from the Safe Zone, and the other was a newcomer. They planned to raid while Fu Yi was away—this was a common tactic they used before. They weren’t really trying to fight the Small City to the death, but wanted to grab some food supplies. The difference this time was that the Safe Zone’s plan was to kill at least a third of the Small City players.
