Chapter 1536: Ms. Gong
"I've learned." Xu Huo's eyes brightened slightly. No amount of written experience could compare to this kind of direct demonstration. The materials he had found under the dimension before were nowhere near as valuable as Ms. Gong's experience.
"I wanted to talk more with you, but business has arrived, little barbecue. Let's stop here for today." Ms. Gong waved her hand, sending the bean-sized cube space flying out. That thing exploded at a position over a kilometer away from the building, expanding and directly blasting off a corner of the building.
A player appeared on top of the building.
Then two more appeared on the rooftops of the buildings to the left and right.
A total of five players, two of whom wore golden badges engraved with three swords, while the other three wore silver badges with two swords.
Xu Huo stood up: Members of the Holy Sword Society?
Since entering the game, he had dealt with the Holy Sword Society several times and knew about the internal split within the organization. The faction that followed the original founding principles of the Holy Sword Society had changed their badge, using a dial engraved on the holy sword to distinguish between old and new, calling themselves the "Sword of Time." The splinter New Holy Sword Society still used the original emblem, with the same tokens, badges, and tattoos.
He paused, then turned his gaze to Ms. Gong beside him.
Ms. Gong was still sitting, but she had turned around. Looking at the five, she said, "I've been waiting for you."
The Holy Sword Society golden member standing in the middle, who had just taken a hit, was a middle-aged man with an imposing air. Facing Ms. Gong, he bowed slightly from a distance. "Old Gong, long time no see."
Ms. Gong pursed her lips. "I hate you little brats the most. Didn't Grandma teach you when you left? Be polite. Address people according to their requests."
"Ms. Gong." The middle-aged man corrected himself.
Ms. Gong was satisfied, but not entirely. She sighed and said, "You went too far in Zone 017."
"For the Holy Sword Society's goal, necessary sacrifices are worthwhile." The middle-aged man said calmly, "The dead are sacrifices, and we are sacrifices too."
"Bah!" Ms. Gong said. "You little brats are just making excuses. Since you're sacrifices too, why don't you go die?"
The middle-aged man's eyes seemed to dim slightly, but the dimness quickly disappeared. He looked directly at Ms. Gong. "I respect you very much and don't want to fight you. Please don't make things difficult for me."
Ms. Gong didn't seem threatened at all. Instead, she sighed with emotion. "You stopped respecting me when you left."
As her words fell, the three silver members on the opposite building exploded into blood mist. The two golden members who were also attacked vanished from their spots and reappeared in front of the building. They clapped their palms together, and the entire office building, except for the eighteenth floor, was crushed by gravity coming from all directions.
Within the circular space barrier firmly protecting the entire eighteenth floor, Ms. Gong raised her hand, sending the golden member who had attacked from behind flying back through the air. Then she turned to Xu Huo. "Little barbecue, you should go far away."
Without waiting for his response, she directly sent him out of the space barrier.
Xu Huo's vision blurred, and he found himself at the edge of Xiaoyue City. The space maze had not been lifted yet. Having left that layer of mirror space, he could no longer see the battle situation.
Given that Bai Tiao Yi had been teleported away earlier, there were definitely other spaces within the space maze. The city buildings wouldn't refresh constantly either, which meant that after coming out, he couldn't even determine the positions of Ms. Gong and the other two.
From their conversation, he could guess that Ms. Gong was an elder of the Holy Sword Society, here to deal with the members who had been indiscriminately killing people.
He wasn't sure if she knew about his dealings with Uncle Guan and the others, but she had helped him and guided him on space evolution. In all conscience, he couldn't just walk away without looking back.
Of course, the golden member of the Holy Sword Society was no weakling. Being able to fight Ms. Gong, he was likely among the stronger A-class players. Even if Xu Huo stayed, he probably couldn't make much of a difference in a battle of that level. But whether he could do it well was one thing; whether he did it at all was another.
He turned back toward the city center.
But before he could find the mirror space again, five Holy Sword Society members surrounded him first.
Three C-class and two B-class.
If these people had been near Ms. Gong earlier, they would have ended up like those three silver members. Since they weren't, they must have been spying on the office building situation through other means.
A pillow just when he needed one. Xu Huo stopped immediately, facing these five head-on.
Three C-class players were nothing to fear. With his spiritual realm open, dealing with them wouldn't be hard. One B-class player was a bit tricky, but enough A-class items could make up for the gap. Combined with his spiritual power and the "Cube Space" device, the opponent couldn't gain the upper hand. After a stalemate, they could only retreat.
But that was enough, because Xu Huo found what he wanted in the item slot of the B-class player he had killed.
[Wangyue (Moon Gaze): A space item with a romantic name, born from an elder's love and hope for a younger generation. It has the ability to see through space, allowing one to see through up to three layers of overlapping space.]
Xu Huo immediately put the telescope-like item to his eyes. Several figures appeared in the ruins near the office building. However, perhaps due to the effect of Ms. Gong's space power, their figures didn't appear continuously. Instead, they moved back and forth behind walls of transparent barriers, suddenly disappearing and then suddenly reappearing.
Ms. Gong's combat state was as energetic as her appearance. She was suppressing the two golden members, fighting two-on-one while cursing, mainly scolding the middle-aged man:
"You learn all the bad things and forget the good! Everything I taught you has been eaten by dogs! You've forgotten it all so cleanly!"
"Running amok under the Holy Sword Society's banner outside—Grandma's face is completely disgraced! Do you know how many years I haven't dared to go have dinner with my old friends?"
"If children misbehave, you can shut the door and teach them a lesson. But you're adults now. Beating you now is cleaning house. If you had any sense, you'd stretch out your necks and not make an old woman work so hard!"
The middle-aged man wiped a trace of blood from the corner of his mouth and attacked again with his companion. "Old Gong, don't blame us!"
As he spoke, a piece of paper and a blood-stained pen appeared in his hand.
Xu Huo recognized that paper. It was the single-use item "Precision Hit" that the Holy Sword Society had used in Zone 014. Using someone else's blood as ink and writing their true name on the paper could quickly kill the person whose name was written.
"Precision Hit" was a space item that killed using long-range attacks with space power. Xu Huo had roughly guessed its working principle when he used it against Xue Lang back then. But if Xue Lang could avoid it, Ms. Gong naturally could too. Even if they obtained her blood, this item probably wouldn't have much effect... unless this was a trap!
