Chapter 1063: Organized Xenomorphs
Soon, the mutated beasts surrounding the shelter and the bar were either dead or dying, greatly alleviating the pressure on Xu Huo's side.
Of course, mutated beasts weren't completely without intelligence. When their companions who had rushed to snatch food collapsed before even finishing their meal, even instinct told them there was danger ahead. Thus, the xenomorph horde temporarily stalled, with the beasts in the back no longer charging blindly but instead encircling the woods.
Xu Huo noticed that some of the xenomorphs were responding to each other. A single call would often trigger several more, and the sounds spread outward in sequence, radiating from the woods in all directions.
"Are those xenomorphs passing messages?" Zhou Yuanzhu found it hard to believe. "In this district, have xenomorphs evolved to be this smart?"
"Not necessarily intelligence," Ruan Qiyan said. "It's probably instinct."
"Instinct..." Zhou Yuanzhu found it troublesome. "Even a relatively smart dog can reach the intelligence level of a few-year-old child. It's hard to say there aren't smart ones among the xenomorphs. Even if they can't think, they can imitate humans. They've definitely seen other players before, right?"
There was no way to be sure. But judging by the current situation, the only way to escape might be to fly out from the air. However, long-duration flight props were extremely rare, and what could fit in the luggage compartment were usually single-person aircraft—generally, no one would sacrifice water and food to cram in a large aircraft that would take up the entire luggage compartment. Not only was it hard to carry others, but energy was also an issue. It could be used for escape in a pinch, but the current problem was that there were still over twenty people in the bar...
"Those two kids seem to have entered that prop house," someone mentioned at this point. "Won't they suffocate buried under the xenomorph corpses?"
That wasn't a major issue. Xu Huo had long ago spent a considerable sum to acquire an air circulation device, enough to sustain them for a long time. The two kids would be fine inside.
The immediate problem was that these xenomorphs had stopped eating. The virus hadn't achieved the desired effect. According to his estimates, at least one-fifth of the xenomorphs needed to die for this transmission cycle to be broken. Unfortunately, only less than three hundred had died so far. He could probably kill that many himself with a bit more effort.
Standing in midair, Xu Huo looked at the xenomorph horde resting in place. After a moment of thought, he took out all the communication devices he had stored and tried them. Only the communicator purchased in District 002 picked up a few signal points.
This was a special feature of the District 002 communicator. Even without an external network, two communicators within a certain distance could connect through their own signal devices.
These signal points all came from the crash site, with one or two still moving.
This wasn't surprising.
Xenomorphs scattered everywhere would also be interested in foreign objects.
Just as he was about to put the communicator away, a communication request actually appeared on it!
"Chi Minghong?" He answered, quite surprised.
"Old Xu, it's me!" Chi Minghong's delighted but deliberately lowered voice came through. "I'm trapped under a building and can't get out. There's a kid with me... I know we're not life-or-death friends, and you don't have to risk yourself for me. But if you save me today, Chi Minghong owes you a life. From now on, anything you need, you can come to me... Anyway, I'll repay you with my life!"
"Death should be spectacular—whether crushed by a building or eaten alive by xenomorphs, that's just too damn pathetic!"
"Wait for me. Don't hang up the communicator." Xu Huo confirmed that the shelter below was temporarily safe, then turned and headed for the crash site.
This area, whether high or low, was almost entirely occupied by xenomorphs, with only a few building corners exposed.
Finding Chi Minghong wasn't difficult. She wasn't buried deep, and luckily, she hadn't encountered an explosion when she came down. The problem was that xenomorphs had surrounded the outside.
Xu Huo could conceal his form but not his scent, so he used "the thing that makes people utterly infatuated." A burst of foul odor erupted, causing the more sensitive xenomorphs to involuntarily retreat.
He circled the area where Chi Minghong was buried, pouring the substance around, and took the opportunity to kill a few more xenomorphs with the "Little Note Launcher" for others to devour.
After another wave of deaths and injuries, the surrounding xenomorphs dared not approach. Xu Huo then checked on Chi Minghong's condition through the gaps in the building. The visibility wasn't great, but fortunately, the material pressing down on her was metal. This meant no violent dismantling was needed, saving a lot of trouble.
He noticed that her waist was pinned by the building structure. Although a prop was propping it up in the middle, that prop was closer to the ten-year-old girl beside her. The girl was fine, just covering her mouth in fear. Chi Minghong, however, looked pale and seemed seriously injured.
"Leg pinned?" Xu Huo asked.
"No, but a metal rod from below has pierced through the femur of my right leg. I can't pull it out either." As she spoke, Chi Minghong made a shushing gesture to the child beside her.
"That's not a big problem," Xu Huo said. "Use a defense prop. I'll get you out right away."
Though surprised, Chi Minghong immediately activated a defense prop to protect herself and the girl beside her. The next second, the two massive metal pieces sandwiching her turned to powder, including the metal rod piercing her leg. As she fell backward into empty space, a shower of dust rained down, bringing with it the faint breeze and drizzle from outside.
When the two emerged, the surrounding xenomorphs stirred at the sound. But Xu Huo, already beside them, took the lead and lifted both into the air. However, since they didn't have invisibility cloaks, they still attracted the xenomorphs' attention. Some xenomorphs leaped into the air from the ground, and flying xenomorphs circling nearby were also drawn in.
Xu Huo didn't linger. He directly carried the two through space and quickly returned to the shelter's location. But the shelter was inaccessible. He slashed open the prop chain securing the bar's back door with his sword, pushed the two inside, and turned to deploy "All Things Want to Cut Everything"—the two xenomorphs that immediately pounced on him sliced themselves into chunks!
The sudden appearance of people agitated the xenomorphs. The beasts that had been crouching obediently moments ago surged forward again, charging straight for the door.
A horde of starving xenomorphs rushing toward you—this scene was enough to make anyone tremble from body to soul. Xu Huo stood at the door, kicked the meat chunks on the ground aside one by one, and closed the door just before the next xenomorph could reach it.
"All Things Want to Cut Everything" was still outside. Though the mutated beasts charged with full force, they were already corpses by the time they hit the door, failing to break through immediately. Only then did Uncle Guan and the others retrieve the prop chains to secure the door again.
But the xenomorphs outside didn't leave. They still tried to claw at the door. Someone, angered by Xu Huo's reckless act of breaking in without regard for others' safety but not daring to confront him directly, said, "Isn't there a prop to completely block the door?"
