Chapter 75: Quick Battle in the Fog
The Eagle instinctively looked up, but immediately realized he had been tricked. He raised both hands to block above him, and a silver-gray metal shield appeared over his head!
"Boom!"
Under the force of gravity, the metal shield let out a dull thud. The Eagle staggered back, then took several consecutive kicks. While holding the shield high, he pulled out a long sword embedded with gems from behind his back. As the sword was raised, the ruby on the hilt emitted a blinding light, illuminating the entire alley!
Seeing that the person who had ambushed him wore an opaque black mask, and that the mask even had a dizzying effect upon closer inspection, he averted his gaze and swung his sword forward!
"Clang!" A sharp sound of cutting through the air rang out. The residential building opposite him was sliced open like a block of tofu starting from the fifth floor. Although only a thin line appeared on the wall surface, all the steel reinforcement inside was severed. The impact, comparable to a water jet cutter, pierced straight through the building!
The smell of blood soon drifted out from the windows. No one knew how many people had been cut in two in their sleep.
Avoiding this strike, Xu Huo hovered at the height of the third floor, frowning at the crack in the wall.
He had happened to see the Eagle trapping the Special Affairs Bureau personnel with the golden pipe. That pipe should have been a single-use item; after being used, it shattered into pieces and dissipated. He had only come out to intercept on a gamble, never expecting that the Eagle, despite being wounded by a gunshot, was still formidable.
The sneak attack had failed, and he had already missed his only chance to kill this man. The opponent was carrying so many items, likely a player from another district, and at least of a higher level than him.
Just as he was hesitating whether to take the gamble, the Eagle suddenly turned and ran!
Xu Huo leaped down from midair, stomping hard twice on the ground with his running shoes to boost his speed by thirty percent. In the blink of an eye, he caught up with the injured man!
"Clang!" The Eagle swung his sword at him again. The sword light seemed to form a razor-thin film in the air, sharp enough to cut through anything. Xu Huo sidestepped to dodge, only to find that the film's length had extended beyond the alley, slicing a shop on the opposite side in half!
When the residential building had been cut earlier, the sword's slashing range had only penetrated the building, probably no more than twenty meters. But this time, it had suddenly stretched several times longer!
"Get lost!" the Eagle shouted at him, then charged toward the smoke-filled block.
Avoiding his consecutive slashes, the two of them rushed into the fog one after the other.
The fog inside, however, didn't seem as thick. People could see clearly. Xu Huo stepped off the wall and flipped in front of the Eagle. As he flew in for a kick, he manipulated the strings to loop around the metal shield and pull. With the front exposed, this kick landed squarely on the Eagle's nose bridge!
The Eagle groaned in pain, staggering back and swinging his sword wildly!
Xu Huo dodged aside. This time, the planar film narrowed and shortened, only slicing through an abandoned wooden cabinet in the alley. The cabinet split open with a crack, but the wall it leaned against showed no trace of damage!
He glanced back at the sword in the Eagle's hand, then kicked the wooden cabinet toward him. Two pieces of the cabinet flew in succession, but the sword only cut through the first piece; the second was blocked by the metal shield!
"I see."
The long sword's attack range was determined by the size of the target. From a large building to a small brick, the first target it struck was the peak of its distance. Regardless of the object's size, it could only hit the first target from a distance!
Now that he understood the approximate attack range of the ruby long sword, Xu Huo began kicking everything in the alley toward the Eagle!
From large potted plants to small bricks, the Eagle could only cut through one thing with each swing. Eventually, as more and more objects flew at him, he couldn't spare the time to swing frequently and had to either block with the sword or slash them apart with the blade.
"Skulking around, who are you? Why are you ambushing me?" The Eagle realized his sword's usage had been seen through. He stared at the man opposite and said, "Brother, the Special Affairs Bureau people are nearby. You don't want to be discovered either, do you? Just say what you want!"
Xu Huo's mask time limit was up. It gradually changed from black to white, covering his face like a sheet of paper.
He didn't take off the mask. Even without the dizzying effect, it could still serve as an ordinary mask. And this man in front of him didn't have the ability to see through the mask.
"Special Affairs Bureau?" Xu Huo looked around at the fog. The commotion just now should have alerted the Special Affairs Bureau players, but not a single one had appeared so far. Even the nearby residents hadn't come out to check. This fog, like the one outside the Hot Spring Villa, seemed to block sight and sound.
"In that case, let's finish this quickly!" He shifted his right foot back and suddenly accelerated, charging forward!
Seeing someone charge from the front was more visually oppressive than being chased from behind. The Eagle was startled. He dodged the last brick, put away his items, and vanished from the spot!
Xu Huo's sprint came to an abrupt halt. He quickly dodged onto an air conditioner unit on the wall, pulling out a lighter and aiming it at the empty alley.
The item "Arsonist's Tool" could only be used to ignite the clothes on a person. Two conditions were necessary: first, no obstacles between the item and the target; second, the target had to be able to hear what he said. He had never used it on a completely invisible target before, but... his gaze fell on the shadow on the ground. "Ignite!"
The moment he spoke, flames erupted out of nowhere in the air. The fire flickered, brightening and dimming, then fell to the ground.
Unsure whether the invisibility trait could cover the items, Xu Huo didn't approach recklessly. Instead, he kept adjusting his position, throwing everything he could grab at the Eagle!
A series of clattering sounds followed. Annoyed, the Eagle pulled out his long sword and slashed at him!
Seizing the opportunity, Xu Huo charged forward, kicking with full force to break his right hand. The long sword clattered to the ground. He precisely grabbed the man's throat, used the strings to hoist him up, and pulled him at full speed into the sky!
The Eagle's right hand was broken and unusable. His left hand wedged against his neck, fingers spreading to force the strings apart. Just as he was about to break free, a piece of paper was blown by the wind onto his face. The long strip of paper kept winding around his head, wrapping him tightly in moments.
The Eagle struggled twice, but suddenly the metal shield burst through the paper, tearing apart not only the Painting Woman but also pushing the strings aside.
Regaining his freedom, the Eagle leaped down from midair. But he was at a certain height, and with his injuries, he stumbled upon landing. The Painting Woman, having reassembled into a sheet of paper, flew over and knocked him to the ground. Then Xu Huo raised the toy gun!
Seeing his own item in someone else's hands, the Eagle cursed Ma Yu as a fool in his shock. But when he tried to block, the metal shield was grabbed by someone!
He turned his head, staring in astonishment at the paper drawing beside him that had suddenly come to life. "Super item?!"
"You actually have a super item, who exactly are you..."
He turned toward Xu Huo, but what met him was a burst of raging flames!
