Chapter 734: Who Gave the Order?
The pitch-black iron sword wailed in Zhang Shan's hand for a while before finally going silent.
"It really is like a living thing... How strange."
Seeing that the black sword had stopped reacting, Zhang Shan casually tossed the remaining half to the ground.
Old Lu turned around, scratching the bloody scratches on his belly as he asked, "Four Eyes, you alright?"
"I'm fine, Old Lu." Four Eyes pushed up his glasses. "You saved me. I'll find a way to repay you."
"What do you mean I saved you? You should thank Zhang Shan instead."
Old Lu took a closer look at Four Eyes and, seeing that he really seemed fine, turned his head back to Zhang Shan.
"Zhang Shan, what do we do now? This is a pretty damn tricky situation, isn't it?"
"What's so tricky about it?" Zhang Shan let out a light laugh. "I'll go have a chat with them. If we can't come to an agreement, I don't mind taking them both down."
As he spoke, Zhang Shan started walking forward, with Old Lu and Four Eyes following closely behind.
When Han Yimo saw the three figures approaching slowly in the distance, he reached out and tugged at Dr. Zhao's sleeve.
"Hey... I-I'm not seeing things, am I? That guy caught the 'Seven Black Sword' and broke it on the ground."
Dr. Zhao shook his dazed head and looked into the distance. "N-no way...? That sword just killed several 'Reverberators' without breaking. If it could be snapped, it would have been snapped long ago..."
"But I really think I saw it..." Han Yimo said blankly. "My sword is gone..."
"Don't just stand there..." Dr. Zhao turned his head and said. "Since we've already killed people... stopping now won't save us. Summon another one!"
Han Yimo nodded, then closed his eyes, muttering under his breath: "There are so many evildoers in this city... Why doesn't the 'Seven Black Sword' come to deliver judgment?"
As soon as he finished reciting this phrase, Han Yimo suddenly felt a dizzy spell in his head. His mind was clearly overexerted. When he looked up again, the sky still complied with his wish as the sound of wind rang out from the horizon.
Zhang Shan looked up at the sky, feeling that this situation was getting too hard to figure out.
Everyone's "Reverberation" had its own fixed ability, but what kind of ability was it to summon a flying sword?
"Hey!" Zhang Shan shouted at the top of his lungs. "You over there! Put away your 'Reverberation' and come talk to me!"
It was only then that Han Yimo and Dr. Zhao vaguely made out the approaching figure to be Zhang Shan. After all, Zhang Shan was a leader of "Heaven's Gate," and the aura he gave off instantly intimidated the two of them.
"Zh-Zhang Shan!" Han Yimo shouted loudly. "I'm warning you—don't come any closer! Stay right there and wait to die!"
Dr. Zhao pulled at him. "What the hell are you saying...?"
"We've already started killing!" Han Yimo pointed at the corpses nearby. "The people we killed are all from 'Heaven's Gate'! Do you think Zhang Shan is going to let us off?"
"But..." Dr. Zhao said with a grim expression. "Chu Tianqiu told me Zhang Shan has 'Celestial Might in Motion'! Your sword can't touch him!"
"What 'Celestial Might in Motion'..." Han Yimo gritted his teeth. "Anyway, Chu Tianqiu told us to kill people for him... If anything happens, Chu Tianqiu will take responsibility."
"That's exactly the problem!" Dr. Zhao said sternly. "Chu Tianqiu wants us to be his 'gun,' but we have to know how to protect ourselves too! You can't just recklessly attack someone of Zhang Shan's level. First, withdraw the 'Seven Black Sword,' and let's talk to him! Otherwise, if he really gets angry, he might kill us both right here!"
Han Yimo let out a bitter smile. "But have you forgotten...? The 'Seven Black Sword' isn't under my control..."
As soon as he finished speaking, the iron sword in the sky had already flown right in front of them, circled in the air once, and finally aimed its tip at Zhang Shan and his two companions.
"Damn." Zhang Shan looked up at the black sword in the air and chuckled. "How is this getting weirder and weirder? They don't even want to talk to me. The only option is to kill us?"
The black iron sword didn't hesitate. It shot straight toward Four Eyes, who was standing behind Zhang Shan and Old Lu. Meanwhile, Dr. Zhao immediately ran toward a nearby female corpse.
Zhang Shan's face turned cold as he watched the iron sword fly toward him at breakneck speed, whistling through the air.
He took a deep breath, raised his arms as thick as iron pillars, and was about to use all his strength to meet the attack—when the iron sword, as if made of rotted wood, began to disintegrate in midair as it flew forward. Moments later, it had completely turned into black powder, scattering away with the breeze.
"Oh...?" Zhang Shan furrowed his brow and raised a hand to shield his eyes from the dust. "Interesting."
"Zhang Shan!" Dr. Zhao shouted. "I'm sorry... We didn't mean to fight you."
"Ha..." Zhang Shan let out a soft laugh and continued walking forward step by step. "Is it because I'm Zhang Shan that you don't want to fight me?"
"Well..."
"The others aren't Zhang Shan, so they died under your swords. I am Zhang Shan, so you don't want to fight me. But there's no bond between us—are you just afraid of my ability?" The aura emanating from Zhang Shan made the two of them feel a sense of danger.
"We have orders to follow. We're just carrying out our mission." Dr. Zhao said. "So even if you kill us, it won't do any good. We're just grunts."
"Does 'just following orders' make up for all these lives?" Zhang Shan spat on the ground. "Damn it. The others barely survived the deadly 'Centaur Moment,' struggling just to make it back to 'Heaven's Gate' for refuge. And then you motherfuckers show up with an iron sword, waiting here, killing anyone who comes by... Where's the justice in that? If you don't give me a satisfactory explanation today, then you two can go keep them company in death."
"Stop!" Dr. Zhao waved his hands. "We really do have a mission! Chu Tianqiu told us to do this!"
"Chu..."
After those words were spoken, not only Zhang Shan but also Old Lu and Four Eyes frowned.
"Chu kid?" Old Lu was taken aback. "Last time I didn't have my 'Reverberation,' so I didn't remember the past. But isn't that Chu kid our leader?"
Four Eyes lowered his head, lost in thought. He, too, hadn't retained any memories, so he couldn't determine whether the other party was telling the truth.
But Zhang Shan shook his head bluntly. "Too bad I don't believe it. Chu Tianqiu is the person I trust most here. Your lie is way too far-fetched."
"It's true!" Dr. Zhao said. "Zhang Shan, do you think we have the guts of a bear and the gall of a leopard? This is 'Heaven's Gate' territory. We're not reckless people. Why would we come here to blatantly murder people?"
Zhang Shan sneered coldly. "If you ask me, this doesn't look like Chu Tianqiu's orders. It looks more like your boss Qi Xia's orders."
