Chapter 1216: Unexpected
The Black Sheep silently stared at the "participants" before him. They seemed to be using some sort of opportunistic method to allow everyone to obtain "Resonance."
He himself would take this time to roughly distinguish who were the leaders and who could be used as cannon fodder.
After all, when actually fighting the Longhorn Beetle to the death, both meat shields and weapons were indispensable.
"That's about it." Su Shan nodded to the crowd. "I can see 'ripples' on all of you. As long as you stay determined, you'll find that you can still 'Resonate.'"
As she spoke, she felt a peculiar sensation in her eyes. Yan Zhichun also noticed that Su Shan's pupils were now sparkling like gems.
Su Shan paused. She really did begin to see faint "ripples" on everyone.
What was going on?
Although she had told everyone that they had "ripples," she had always felt she was lying. Why could she see them now too?
Ever since the "Giant Bell" was destroyed, everyone's abilities seemed to have become strange.
"Let's go when you're ready." The Black Sheep turned and walked toward the room where Qinglong was.
He had only taken a few steps when an old, worn-out door to his right slowly creaked open, and Qi Xia led the group out from within.
Their eyes met. Both wore complex expressions, as if they wanted to say something but found it inconvenient to speak at that moment.
The Black Sheep slowly bowed, nodded to Qi Xia, then looked straight ahead and walked on.
Qi Xia's gaze shifted away from the Black Sheep, sweeping over the many members of the "Extreme Dao" behind him. Qian Wu was indeed among them.
"Qian Wu…"
"I'm here to complete the final mission as a 'Twin Flower.'" Qian Wu pulled out a cigarette, put it in his mouth, and handed the remaining half-pack to Officer Li.
"Good." Qi Xia nodded. "Then let Qinglong savor it."
After speaking, Qi Xia glanced behind Qian Wu, and his gaze soon stopped on the strange old man.
This was the first time in a long while that Qi Xia had frozen in place.
Everything had been going according to plan, yet such a meticulous plan… seemed to have an unexpected flaw, neither big nor small.
What an absurd coincidence. This old man, whom he himself had killed with his own hands, turned out to be a member of the "Extreme Dao."
A man he was supposed to kill, yet his own subconscious had saved him.
Would this flaw… lead to unpredictable consequences?
If there really was a possibility of trouble, he wouldn't mind killing the old man again in front of all the "Extreme Dao" members right now.
Even if everyone else's actions were being driven by various destinies along their predetermined tracks, this old man was different.
He might be the only variable in this entire plan.
But if he killed him… how would he stabilize the resolve of the other "Extreme Dao" members to die?
"Wait…" Qi Xia furrowed his brow, thinking for a moment. Given Chen Junnan's situation earlier, if this old man had just resurrected, it meant his memory should be incomplete.
He likely didn't remember the things he had unearthed…
In other words, the situation was temporarily safe.
"Old Qi, what are you looking at?" Chen Junnan asked.
"I'm looking at the probability of victory," Qi Xia replied. "I hope nothing goes wrong."
After saying this, Qi Xia took a step forward, deliberately positioning himself in front of the old man.
The old man casually glanced at Qi Xia, finding nothing amiss, and the group hurried past him. Those who knew each other simply exchanged glances with Qi Xia. Only Qian Wu remained where he was.
After greeting Zhou Mo and the others, he stood beside Qi Xia, as if waiting for something.
Once the crowd had dispersed, Qi Xia turned his head and saw the ethereal figure of the White Sheep standing next to the opposite door.
The figure said nothing, simply watching him in silence.
Combined with the unexpected appearance of the old man, a sense of unease began to spread through Qi Xia's heart.
"The thing I hate most in this life is something beyond my expectations…"
"What are you mumbling about, Old Qi?" Chen Junnan asked from behind.
"Chen Junnan…" Qi Xia called out.
"What's up?"
"Am I going mad?" Qi Xia asked.
Chen Junnan turned to look at Qiao Jiajin beside him. Neither of them knew how to answer Qi Xia's question.
Did he think he was normal?
"Heh… how… how rude is that?" Chen Junnan laughed. "Old Qi, do you feel something's wrong with you?"
"I keep seeing things that shouldn't be there," Qi Xia replied.
"You're sick, then." Chen Junnan waved his hand. "I think you should sit down for a while. Are you overexerting yourself?"
Qi Xia frowned slightly, unable to find any logical connection in Chen Junnan's words. "What does that have to do with overexertion?"
"Sickness comes from exertion," Chen Junnan answered.
Silence hung in the air for a few seconds.
"Uh…" Qiao Jiajin scratched his head. "Jun Nan Zai, the version I heard seems a bit different from yours…"
"Lao Qiao, say less."
"Oh."
Qi Xia stroked his chin, then looked again at the phantom of the White Sheep before him, feeling that he was right on the brink of madness. The frequency of seeing the White Sheep was increasing.
"Actually, I think you're right," Qi Xia said, looking at Chen Junnan.
"Of course," Chen Junnan nodded. "Little master is always right."
"I'm really not fit for exertion right now," Qi Xia said, turning back to glance at Qian Wu. "I'll leave the fists to you. Stick to what we agreed on."
"Alright."
"Baa?" Qiao Jiajin froze. "Agreed?"
Qi Xia took a deep breath and said, "I'm going to stay here and wait for someone. Now is not the time for me to act. I need to make sure no other accidents happen."
"Then we…?"
"You can stay or move freely." Qi Xia said. "Fist, if you want to kill Qinglong, go with Qian Wu."
"Kill Qinglong…" Qiao Jiajin turned to look at Qian Wu. "If I go with you… I can fight Qinglong?"
"Yes," Qian Wu replied.
"Qinglong should be the top dog on this train, right? If I can take him down, everything ends?" Qiao Jiajin asked again.
"Correct," Qi Xia nodded. "For you, it's over. I still have my own matters. Fist, do you remember the two-character 'odd move' I mentioned?"
"Yeah." Qiao Jiajin nodded, pointing to his temple. "Liar, my memory is still good. I need it to repay kindness and settle scores."
"Good…" Qi Xia paused, then said, "You've worked hard all this time."
"An la." Qiao Jiajin smiled. "After being a guest here for so long, I'm finally getting a chance to spar with the top guy. I couldn't ask for more. Liar, you just sleep here. When you wake up, Qinglong will already be dead."
