Chapter 944: Side Job
Zhang Shan was patrolling at the entrance of the teaching building with a torch. From afar, he saw a pile of corpses move slightly, and soon he spotted a figure walking over.
“Hey!” Zhang Shan shouted half-heartedly. “Where are you from? An old member?”
The figure stopped not far away upon hearing Zhang Shan’s voice, and only then did Zhang Shan sense something eerie.
She seemed to be a dead person.
Zhang Shan took a few steps forward and looked more closely.
Sure enough, the person before him appeared to have been dead for a long time. Her face was deathly pale, and she didn’t even have her eyes open. Blood was constantly flowing from the wound on her abdomen.
“Damn it…” Zhang Shan scratched his head, then raised the torch and walked forward again.
Although the situation was a bit weird, Zhang Shan was bold because of his skill. In just a few steps, he arrived in front of the woman.
The woman seemed to sense something. Her eyes twitched unnaturally; first her left eye opened, then her right. Two completely dilated pupils appeared before Zhang Shan, and then she looked up at the sky blankly.
“What the hell…” Zhang Shan frowned, raised the torch to his face, and looked at the woman. “Hey, what are you? Can you talk?”
The woman’s neck made a few creaking sounds. Then she lowered her head, and her body began to twist. She slowly retreated a few steps and gradually disappeared into the darkness.
Just as Zhang Shan was about to lose sight of her, he saw the woman suddenly speed up, circumvent Zhang Shan, and run toward the teaching building.
“Damn!”
Zhang Shan immediately panicked. Although he didn’t know what this thing was, he couldn’t let a dead person run wild in “Paradise Gate”. He had to make a prompt decision and chase after her.
The figure’s speed far exceeded Zhang Shan’s imagination. He was running at full speed but could only see her figure growing farther and farther away.
He didn’t know if it was because it was too dark or if he was seeing things, but Zhang Shan seemed to see the woman’s feet leave the ground, as if she was being dragged by something, moving away rapidly.
“Something’s wrong!” Zhang Shan shouted. “Enemy attack! Enemy attack!”
His loud voice caused chaos among the people in “Paradise Gate”. Zhang Shan chased the strange figure into the teaching building, but unfortunately, the figure was moving too fast and had already disappeared.
“This is trouble…” Zhang Shan muttered to himself.
Many people began to walk out of the rooms and looked at Zhang Shan with confusion. “What happened?”
“Damn…” Zhang Shan said with some tension. “A corpse flew in… I don’t know what ability it is. Everyone, be careful.”
“A c-corpse?”
Zhang Shan thought for a moment, moved the torch downward, and looked at the bloodstains on the ground.
Even if that woman flew fast, she was still injured.
“I’ll go find her. You just protect yourselves.”
Qi Xia sat in the room, quietly thinking about something. He had just heard some commotion at the door, followed by a loud cry of “Enemy attack!”
His train of thought was instantly interrupted. He recalled the scene where “Paradise Gate” was bloodily purged by “Cat”, so he turned to look at the main entrance. Although the light was dim, he could roughly see that it was empty, with not a single person.
Before Qi Xia could figure it out, he heard a clattering noise from outside the room.
He walked to the door, opened it, and poked his head out into the corridor. He saw an extremely eerie sight.
A woman was being dragged by something, banging around in the corridor. She hit the walls, then the ceiling, spattering blood everywhere.
Qi Xia frowned and stepped back into the room.
A few seconds later, the woman’s figure appeared at the doorway. She seemed to want to enter, but her body was out of control.
It seemed that during the journey, she had broken her hands and feet, and there was a huge wound on her abdomen; even her spine might be broken.
She made several “rushes” into the room, then her left shoulder hit the doorframe, followed by her right shoulder hitting the door. In a very brutal manner, she entered the room.
After entering, the other party did nothing else but kept moving her broken limbs.
Qi Xia watched this scene expressionlessly, puzzled.
Being able to remotely control a corpse to stand here indicated that the opponent was an extremely strong “Echoer”. But why were this “Echoer”’s manipulation methods so crude?
This looked like a skilled worker completing his task with an extremely perfunctory technique.
“Are you in a hurry…?” Qi Xia asked softly. “Or are you in danger?”
Although the corpse’s eyes were open, her pupils began to roll upward, showing a lot of white, staring at him.
After moving her hands and feet for a while, the corpse finally found that her left hand could still be raised normally. So her feet left the ground, and she slowly came in front of Qi Xia.
Qi Xia and the other party were half a meter apart. He could sense nothing but the smell of blood.
The other party slowly raised her left hand, touched Qi Xia’s clothes, and left a blood fingerprint on his clothes.
At that moment, Qi Xia understood the corpse’s intention. He stepped back, moved a desk over, then grasped the corpse’s hand and made her touch the desk surface.
After touching the desk, the corpse’s whole body stiffened for a moment, and her bones creaked again.
She slowly moved her fingers and began to write on the desk.
“Sky.”
Qi Xia took a deep breath and quietly waited for the other party to write. After all, someone was remotely controlling a corpse, and using an injured left hand at that, so the characters were both abstract and slow.
“Swindler!” Qiao Jiajin suddenly burst into the room holding a can of beer. He seemed to have drunk several cans, and his face was slightly red. “Enemy attack, did you hear that?”
As soon as he spoke, he noticed Qi Xia was quietly watching a corpse writing.
The corpse was covered in injuries, and there was even a bloody hole visible on her back.
Qiao Jiajin blinked, then scratched his head. Without a word, he closed the door and turned to leave.
Qi Xia looked at the door with some confusion. A few seconds later, he heard Qiao Jiajin’s voice again.
“Swindler! Enemy attack, did you hear that?!”
Qiao Jiajin suddenly opened the door and barged into the room again. He took a closer look and realized that there really seemed to be a corpse writing in the room, and it didn’t seem to have anything to do with the way he opened the door.
He was silent for a long time, then raised the beer can in his hand and looked at it, muttering softly, “What kind of alcohol is this… so strong?”
“Fist, what’s wrong?” Qi Xia asked.
“Huh…?” Qiao Jiajin was taken aback. “Nothing, I might be seeing things. I saw a corpse writing in front of you.”
“There is indeed a corpse writing in front of me,” Qi Xia said.
“Uh…” Qiao Jiajin blinked again after hearing this. He would have preferred it being an illusion, which would be easier to accept.
“Yesterday I saw ‘Ant’ reading your palm, and today a corpse is teaching you writing…” Qiao Jiajin forced a bitter smile. “Swindler, do you have some kind of side job every night?”
“I can’t figure it out either,” Qi Xia said, staring at the corpse before him. “Although it’s writing, after all this time, it’s only written one character: ‘sky’.”
Qiao Jiajin walked over to take a look and found that after writing ‘sky’, the corpse had indeed started to scribble randomly, leaving only a mess of bloody handprints.
