Chapter 26: The First Battle
Linley’s eyes immediately lit up.
“Rescind. They have a target over there!” Linley transmitted mentally, and at the same time, his entire body turned into a blurry phantom as he shot directly toward where Bebe was. “A target?” Rescind was also overjoyed. His speed skyrocketed, actually surpassing Linley’s by a notch. In less than three li, they arrived in the blink of an eye.
But when Linley and the other arrived, they discovered that Bebe and Lei Hong were just standing there.
“Bebe, what’s wrong? Where’s the target?” Linley had a guess.
“That guy was too cunning. I just spotted him, and he didn’t even fight—he just turned around and fled!” Bebe said helplessly, his face bitter. Beside him, Lei Hong said in a low voice, “This person, my lord and I encountered him not long ago. When he saw me, he got scared and left.”
“Encountered him?” Rescind shook his head. “Forget it. He got lucky.”
“I think, Lei Hong, you should change your appearance a bit. Your build is way too easy to recognize,” Linley said with a smile. The tall, burly man nodded slightly and grunted in acknowledgment. Then his entire body began to shrink, transforming from a four-meter-tall giant into an ordinary person two meters tall.
Rescind blinked and laughed. “Ah Hong, if you become like this, it won’t be comfortable sitting on your shoulders anymore.”
Linley immediately recalled that when he had first seen Rescind, Rescind had been sitting on that giant’s shoulders.
“Rescind, let’s keep moving,” Linley said with a smile.
“Yeah.” Rescind nodded, then gritted his teeth and said, “Hmph, Ah Hong and I have been in the Planar Battlefield for so many years, and we’ve only gotten one gold badge. This time, I have to get a few more.” Rescind and Lei Hong had also come from the Infernal Realm, belonging to the side of the Dark Divine Plane.
They, too, had crossed the River of Stars and arrived on this side.
“You only have one?” Bebe couldn’t help but laugh.
“Hmph, if I had your innate divine ability, I’d have killed several commanders by now,” Rescind snorted. “Alright, let’s go. Linley, we’ll take that path!” The two groups split up again. Because the terrain of the Planar Battlefield varied everywhere, with weeds and mounds scattered about, they couldn’t see each other from two or three li away.
“Whoosh, whoosh~”
The cold wind howled as two figures advanced one after the other. The one in front wore a white robe and had long, emerald-green hair that reached his waist. He had a breathtakingly handsome face, and his skin was crystal-clear, as if carved from jade. Most notably, on his forehead was a crescent-moon-shaped mark.
He walked forward indifferently, casually glancing around, as if the Planar Battlefield were his own backyard garden.
Behind him followed a female warrior in armor.
“My lord, should we find a place to rest? Now those commanders are all hiding so deep. When they see you, they get scared and hide,” the brown-haired female warrior said with a smile.
The green-haired, white-robed handsome youth strolled forward. “Alright, let’s find a place up ahead to rest. Hmm? It seems we won’t need to rest just yet. Prey is coming.” The white-robed youth’s lips curled up slightly, and the moon mark on his forehead glowed green before fading in an instant.
Linley and his group had been traveling for a full half-month. Although they had encountered targets along the way, upon closer inspection, they found they were just ‘Death God Puppets.’ They had run into Death God Puppets five times, but not a single one had dared to come out in true form. Linley and the others weren’t discouraged at all.
After all, there were only so many commanders. Some were in the military camps, some were hiding, and not many dared to walk around outside.
“Those peerless experts really have almost no flaws,” Linley chatted with Rescind along the way.
Linley learned that Rescind only had one Sovereign artifact—an attack Sovereign artifact! As for Rescind himself, both his body and soul were extremely powerful. Although his body wasn’t as strong as Bebe’s, his soul was far superior!
The Violet Crystal Mountain Range contained endless violet crystals. Rescind’s true form had 108 spikes, and the Violet Crystal Mountain Range also had 108 caves.
Linley guessed, “That Violet Sovereign must have a special connection to the Violet Crystal Mountain Range. Rescind is similar! His soul being extremely strong is understandable. After all, the Violet Crystal Mountain Range is a place that produces endless violet crystals.” On the Violet Crystal Mountain Range, there were also many violet crystal beasts, whose bodies were extremely hard. Rescind’s body defense was naturally even stronger.
Rescind was very balanced overall!
Even without relying on a Sovereign artifact, he was strong enough. With a Sovereign artifact, he could dominate the Planar Battlefield.
“Those Sovereign’s envoys get Sovereign artifacts to make up for their weaknesses,” Linley also understood this principle.
Just as Linley and Rescind were walking through the Planar Battlefield, scanning the surroundings for targets, Linley suddenly stared ahead—there, two figures appeared one after the other. These two also spotted Linley and his companion, and instead of being afraid, they stood still, looking at Linley and Rescind.
“Oh? Them?” Rescind smiled.
“O’Carol Will from the Life Overgod Plane?” Linley was startled inwardly.
O’Carol Will was a genius of the ‘Moon Elf’ race and one of the few super-strong experts of the Life Overgod Plane. He cultivated the Life Edicts and specialized in soul attacks. He could be considered Linley’s natural enemy!
“Bebe, we’ve found a target. Hurry over,” Linley quickly communicated with his soul.
Linley and Bebe could communicate over long distances through their soul bond.
Even on this Planar Battlefield, where divine sense could only spread about a hundred meters, they could easily communicate from several li away. Back when Linley wasn’t even at the Saint-level and was trapped in the Radiant Church’s temple, he could already communicate with Bebe through their souls, even though he couldn’t release his divine sense. Such were the benefits of a soul contract.
On the desolate ground of the Planar Battlefield.
Linley and Rescind, along with O’Carol Will and his companion, saw each other and were momentarily stunned. But in an instant, both sides acted without hesitation!
“Linley, use your innate divine ability on that woman!” Rescind transmitted urgently. At the same time, Rescind’s entire body turned into a streak of purple light, shooting toward the enemy.
“Got it.”
Linley followed, flying toward the enemy at top speed.
“Hmph, seeking death.” O’Carol Will sneered coldly as he saw the two charging at him. He stood his ground, waiting for them. Originally, he had wanted to attack, fearing they might flee. But now that Linley and Rescind were coming to him, he was happy to wait. Let them come close, then kill them—wasn’t that better?
Rescind was in front, Linley behind.
When Linley was about 150 meters from the enemy, his eyes immediately flashed with dark gold. At the same time, a winding, coiled green dragon phantom over a thousand meters long appeared behind Linley. The dragon’s head hovered above Linley, staring at the target—
The brown-haired woman!
“Huh?” The white-robed elf youth, O’Carol Will, was startled. “The Green Dragon clan?” He noticed that Linley was using this technique against his servant.
But then he sneered disdainfully, standing still. “The Green Dragon clan’s innate divine ability can at most alter the flow of time. As long as I prevent them from getting close in that brief moment, they won’t be able to harm my people.” The white-robed elf youth flickered and intercepted Rescind, who was charging at him!
Rescind grinned.
“Get down!”
“Boom!” A purple halo radiated from Rescind’s body, forming a massive dome spanning several hundred meters. A terrifying gravitational force instantly acted on the elf youth, O’Carol Will. He felt as if his body had become billions of times heavier and was forced to plummet.
Rescind then waved his hand—
“Swish!”
A blurry beam of light shot toward the brown-haired female warrior. She seemed to just be recovering from the time-altering effect. Facing this attack, she had no time to resist. The blurry light entered her body. The brown-haired female warrior trembled, then collapsed limply.
“Clink!” A white badge fell from her body.
“So weak,” Rescind said disdainfully, shaking his head.
“Rescind!” The elf youth, O’Carol Will, stood on the ground, glaring coldly at Rescind. His eyes seemed to burn with rage. “Killing my servant… what, do you think you can fight me?”
“No, no, I don’t think so.”
Rescind stood on the ground with a playful smile, facing the elf youth. Rescind knew O’Carol Will’s strength well. Without Linley and Bebe, he had no confidence in killing O’Carol Will. At their level, neither could easily overcome the other.
O’Carol Will had only confirmed Rescind’s identity when Rescind used the Violet Crystal Space.
Otherwise, O’Carol Will would have retreated long ago.
“Even though I’m not confident, today I really want that gold badge of yours. So, sorry,” Rescind said with a grin.
O’Carol Will’s face darkened, but then he sneered. “Oh? You want to kill me for my gold badge? Relying on who? That Green Dragon clan kid behind you?” Losing a servant didn’t bother O’Carol Will at all. He had brought a servant to the Planar Battlefield just to serve him. In battle, he was enough on his own.
O’Carol Will studied Linley carefully, as if trying to see what made him strong. After all, among the Green Dragon clan, there didn’t seem to be anyone who could threaten him.
“No, I don’t have that strength,” Linley said calmly with a faint smile.
Linley knew that this O’Carol Will was far more terrifying than the elf elder who had once put Delia into a coma and nearly killed her. Moreover, O’Carol Will had a defensive Sovereign artifact.
“Boss, we’re here,” Bebe transmitted.
“Watch for the right moment and strike,” Linley transmitted back.
“Rescind, I don’t have time to waste with you. I’ll be going now,” O’Carol Will snorted and turned to leave.
“Swish!” “Swish!”
Two figures landed on his retreat path—one tall, one short. They were Lei Hong and Bebe.
O’Carol Will squinted. In his view, very few people could kill him. He didn’t believe these four could. Somewhat annoyed, he snorted, “Rescind, our fight is meaningless. Your actions are making me angry. Fine, today we’ll see whose soul attack is stronger.”
Linley’s expression changed.
He clearly saw O’Carol Will spread two translucent wings from his back. At the same time, a dazzling green light shot out from his forehead, transforming into sixteen green crescent moons. In the dimness of the Planar Battlefield, these glowing green crescents were dazzling.
The sixteen green crescents traced eerie arcs through the air before all converging on Rescind. Clearly, O’Carol Will only regarded Rescind as a worthy opponent. The other three didn’t matter to him. It wasn’t his fault—he wasn’t afraid of physical attacks, and as for soul attacks… he specialized in them. What was there to fear? In countless years, he had never stumbled.
“Hey, elf boy, you’re looking down on me?” Bebe shouted loudly.
O’Carol Will didn’t take Bebe seriously. But then, the corner of his eye caught a massive phantom. He turned his head to look—and in that instant, the once-confident O’Carol Will’s face turned pale, his eyes filled with terror. “How… how is this possible? This is—”
A massive phantom of a God-Eating Rat appeared behind Bebe—
Innate Divine Ability—God Devouring!
“Heh heh. Even I can’t block that. And you think you can? Die.” Rescind laughed at the sight. He felt more and more that bringing Linley and Bebe into the team was an incredibly wise move.
As the God Devouring ability activated, O’Carol Will’s body collapsed with a crash.
“Clink!” A gold badge fell from his body, along with a set of beautiful green armor.
The hunting team’s first battle—a complete victory!
