Chapter 19: Control
Linley, Fain, and the Violet-Gold Rat King “Harry” flew side by side. The three experts were all extremely fast, and before long, they had flown out of the Dark Forest and entered the territory of the Baruch Empire.
Linley was visibly anxious and urged, “Harry, fly faster. I’m worried that the two silver-robed men you mentioned might start massacring the city before we arrive.” Linley was deeply concerned in his heart.
The people of an entire city being slaughtered.
The number of deaths was secondary. The most terrifying thing was the unrest among the people caused by this.
If a million people died in a war, the empire’s residents wouldn’t be too worried. But if a hundred thousand people in a city died for no reason, that was horrifying.
“Don’t worry, it’ll be fine.” Harry wasn’t anxious at all.
“Harry, just hurry up. I know how fast you can go.” Bebe also spoke up for Linley.
Harry glanced helplessly at Bebe. “Fine, then.” Immediately, the Violet-Gold Rat King “Harry” suddenly increased his speed. Linley and Fain followed closely behind. The three experts streaked across the night sky like flowing light, flying over cities and towns.
“Linley, don’t worry. Those two silver-robed men usually wait until late at night, when the streets are almost empty and everyone has started sleeping. That’s when they make their move.” Harry said with great confidence. “It’s only a little past nine in the evening now. There are still plenty of people out drinking and eating.” Harry said.
Linley was too worried about this matter and hadn’t thought it through clearly.
Now that Harry mentioned it, he recalled Wharton’s account of the dead city incidents. In Blue Lion City, almost all the dead were in their homes. The number of people killed on the streets could be counted on one hand. When would a city’s streets be almost empty?
After all, most taverns didn’t close until after midnight.
Linley immediately felt relieved.
Fain, however, asked doubtfully, “Harry, you said they start at midnight? But earlier, didn’t you say that the silver-robed men acted in the eighteen Northern Duchies? Why did the silver-robed men there act so early?”
“Idiot!” Harry laughed smugly. “The eighteen Northern Duchies are the coldest place on the Yulan continent. It’s winter now, and the temperature difference between day and night is even greater. It’s freezing cold at night. In the Northern Duchies at night, if you spit, it would freeze into ice before it even hit the ground!”
Linley nodded inwardly. He had also heard about how cold the eighteen Northern Duchies were.
“In that kind of weather, many people in the Northern Duchies stay home at night, huddled by the fireplace. Especially in some small towns, very few people come out in the bitter cold of the night. You can barely see a single person on the streets.” Harry sighed. “Do you think that silver-robed man needed to wait until after midnight to act?”
Fain understood.
“Whoa. We’re almost there. About another hundred miles.” Harry said excitedly.
The killing intent in Linley and Fain’s hearts immediately began to surge.
The dead city incidents in the O’Brien Empire and the Baruch Empire had indeed enraged Fain and Linley. To act so brazenly clearly showed they had no regard for the two empires, nor for the Saint-level experts backing them.
“Everyone, stop.” Harry said.
Linley and Fain immediately stopped. A few miles ahead of them was a small city. From high in the sky, they could clearly see the lights shining everywhere in the city. Many figures were also moving about on the streets. This small city was very peaceful.
“Harry, where are the two silver-robed men?” Linley asked directly.
He didn’t dare use his own spiritual energy to search, because if he released his spiritual energy and swept over them, they would discover him and probably try to escape first.
“You can’t even see that?” Harry laughed, his whiskers curling up. “They’re right there in the wilderness, about six miles south of you. Those two silver-robed men are sitting cross-legged over there. They’ll probably wait until late at night or the early hours of the morning before they act.”
Linley and Fain immediately looked south.
It was a wilderness overgrown with weeds.
Linley and Fain exchanged a glance. From each other’s eyes, they both saw the same decision, and without hesitation—
“Swoosh!”
The two Saint-level ultimate experts turned into two afterimages, quietly approaching the distant location. Bebe also jumped off Linley’s shoulder and followed behind with Harry. He didn’t want to disturb Linley’s killing of the silver-robed men. Besides, Bebe had complete confidence in Linley.
He had even made it through a million Abyssal Blade Demons. What was there to fear from these silver-robed men?
“Whoosh, whoosh~”
The night wind blew, causing the weeds to ripple. In this wilderness, the two silver-robed men sat side by side, cross-legged, completely motionless. Even if you looked closely, if you weren’t paying attention, you might mistake them for two white rocks.
Suddenly, the two silver-robed men opened their eyes at the same time and turned their heads to look to the side. Their cold, sharp gazes pierced into the distance like knives.
Linley and Fain, who were quietly approaching, saw that they had been discovered and no longer hesitated.
“Kill!” Linley and Fain instantly pushed their speed to the limit. At this moment, the difference between Linley and Fain could be seen. When Fain pushed his speed to the limit, you could only see a bolt of lightning streaking across the sky. As for Linley pushing his speed to the limit…
It was just an invisible wind. Especially in the night, Linley’s figure was no longer visible.
However, the two silver-robed men, upon encountering enemies, immediately released their spiritual energy to cover them, allowing them to fully sense the enemy’s movements.
“So fast.” Both silver-robed men were shocked by Linley’s speed. Fain’s speed was already terrifying, but Linley’s speed was nearly three times that of Fain’s. In almost an instant, Linley had already arrived in front of one of the silver-robed men.
Retreat!
Without hesitation, the silver-robed man turned into a silver light and retreated, his speed comparable to Fain’s.
“Die.” Linley’s gaze at the silver-robed man was cold, like a god looking down upon the mortal world. He simply swung a hand blade, and a clearly visible light cyan dimensional slash appeared. Where this light cyan dimensional slash passed, a tiny crack immediately appeared in space.
There was no room for mercy.
The dimensional slash directly split the silver-robed man in two.
“Hmph!” Linley flipped his hand, and countless razor-sharp wind blades appeared, shredding the silver-robed man’s head into pulp. Naturally, his soul dissipated as well.
In an instant, the enemy was dead!
“Boom!” A terrifying collision sound came from not far away. Fain and that silver-robed man were both sent flying backward from the impact. A terrifying shockwave spread in all directions. Large amounts of weeds were cut cleanly, as if by a sharp knife, and flew up in neat rows.
Linley frowned. “Swoosh!” His figure moved like the wind, quickly arriving beside the silver-robed man.
The silver-robed man tried to escape, but his speed was far too inferior to Linley’s. A leg carrying a gust of wind and boundless power slammed heavily onto the silver-robed man’s back. The silver-robed man was sent flying through the air.
He was falling right towards Fain.
Fain naturally seized the opportunity!
He instantly pushed his speed to the limit and arrived in front of the silver-robed man. The severely injured silver-robed man roared in anger and punched towards Fain’s chest. Fain didn’t care about this attack at all and instead struck back with a palm, slamming it heavily towards the silver-robed man’s head.
“Boom!” A violent tremor.
The silver-robed man’s punch also caved in Fain’s chest, but immediately, the silver-robed man fell limply from mid-air. Fain, who possessed the Life Source Pearl, had his caved-in chest repaired in the blink of an eye, returning to normal.
Linley and Fain moved closer together.
“Linley, your strength is getting stronger and stronger.” Fain sighed. “If it weren’t for you, I would have had to exhaust my spiritual energy and use my ultimate move to kill that silver-robed man.”
Linley smiled. “Fain, let’s first see who they are. They even used silver robes to wrap themselves up completely.”
“Yeah.” Fain was also thinking about the true identity of the silver-robed men.
The head of the silver-robed man Linley had killed was already shredded into pieces, and his body was also cut in two. Linley and Fain landed beside one half of the corpse and lifted the silver robe that was stuck to the body. As soon as they saw it, both of their expressions changed.
The remaining corpse was covered in dense white scales, similar to fish scales.
“Not human.” Both of them were absolutely certain in their hearts.
Without hesitation, Linley and Fain walked over to the silver-robed man that Fain had killed. They lifted the silver robe that covered his entire body. The silver-robed man’s skin was an iron-blue color. Just looking at his face, he was quite similar to a human.
“Not human either.” Linley and Fain became even more certain of their conjecture.
Whether it was the God-level expert hiding in the shadows or his subordinates, they had all come from other planes.
“Haha, Linley, you’ve improved a lot!” Harry and Bebe, who had been hiding in the distance, flew over. Harry was grinning. “But, I have to tell you two pieces of news. One is good news, and one is bad news.”
Linley and Fain’s hearts trembled.
Bad news?
“Which one should I say first?” Harry looked mischievously like a little devil.
“Say the bad news first.” Linley and Fain both said directly.
“You two are quite in sync.” Harry nodded his little head and said. “Then I’ll tell you. Earlier, I said that if you killed the silver-robed men, that God-level expert wouldn’t know who the killer was. That was a lie! That God-level expert will definitely know that you are the killers.”
Linley and Fain’s expressions immediately turned ugly.
Whether it was Fain or Linley, although their strength was considered very strong among Saints, facing a God-level expert, they would still be crushed.
“Harry, you…” Linley didn’t know what to say.
“What, are you angry? Hehe. If I hadn’t said that, would you have dared to come and kill these two silver-robed men?” Harry looked very pleased with himself.
“Harry.” Bebe was also dissatisfied.
Harry quickly said, “Isn’t there still the good news?”
Linley and Fain immediately looked at Harry.
“I said before that this God-level expert was severely injured and was busy with a very important matter. He won’t come to take revenge on you. That news is true. What do you think, isn’t that good news?” Harry carefully watched Linley and Fain’s expressions.
Linley and Fain didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
“Harry, you said that God-level expert is busy with a very important matter. So, after he finishes, won’t he have time to come after us? How long do you estimate he still needs to finish?” Linley pressed.
Harry pondered for a moment. “It’s hard to say. I estimate it will take about three or four years.”
“I hope it’s after four years.” Fain said this because the War God and the others had gone to the Necropolis of the Gods for ten years. It had been almost six years now. In a little over four more years, the War God, the High Priest, and their group would return.
Linley also breathed a sigh of relief.
At least… in three or four years, he should become a god.
“Of course, that’s just my estimate.” Harry added another sentence. Seeing the expressions he had been hoping for on Linley and Fain’s faces, his small eyes narrowed with laughter.
In a dim underground chamber.
The withered old man was still sitting cross-legged. The crystal ball was still floating in front of him. The mist inside the crystal ball was still swirling… However, the number of silver droplets condensed in the center of the mist was a bit more than last time.
“Two more dead?”
A green light flickered in the withered old man’s eyes. “Are these two the ones?”
As a Great Sorcerer, the nine silver-robed men were all under his soul control. Before they died, the two silver-robed men had transmitted the images of Linley and Fain they had seen directly into the Great Sorcerer’s mind. Although the Great Sorcerer had never seen Linley or Fain before.
Someone had seen them!
“Yale, have you seen these two?” The withered old man directly transmitted the images of these two people into Yale’s mind.
Yale, who was sleeping and resting, suddenly opened his eyes wide.
“Great Sorcerer, the one with the long brown hair is Linley. He’s my good brother. The other one with short blue hair, I saw him at my third brother’s place over ten years ago. He is Fain, the senior disciple of the War God’s temple.” Yale’s voice also transmitted into the Great Sorcerer’s mind.
