Chapter 32: Desperate Situation
In the hotel at the end of Green Leaf Road, Yale and a group of others were waiting.
“Young master. His Majesty the King was assassinated by a demon at Lord Linley’s estate. Now the palace guards and many noble knights have gone to protect His Majesty.” A golden-haired man spoke respectfully before Yale.
Yale’s heart jolted. He knew Linley wanted to kill Clayde. Now that Clayde was being assassinated, it was almost certainly related to Linley.
“I wonder if that so-called ‘demon’ is the third brother,” Yale thought anxiously.
But Yale could only wait here quietly; he had no other choice. After a short while, another servant came to report: “Young master Yale, that demon is slaughtering wildly. Too many have died. Lord Linley’s estate is flowing with blood. The grounds are covered with corpses.”
Yale’s heart clenched in alarm.
“The third brother is truly formidable. I just wonder if he’ll be able to escape in the end.” Yale could only wait here slowly.
As news came in one after another—
“Young master Yale, that demon’s violet divine sword is too powerful. With a flash of violet light, a bunch of people die. Too many have died throughout the estate. Entire squads and platoons of the palace guard have been wiped out.”
Hearing this, Yale began to feel certain.
“Violet divine sword? Is that the Violet Blood?” Yale, Reynolds, and George all knew that Linley had obtained a divine sword called ‘Violet Blood.’ Especially when Yale thought of Linley’s clan: “The Baruch clan is a Dragonblood Warrior clan. Could Linley have transformed into a Dragonblood Warrior?”
The so-called demon’s form was very likely that of a Dragonblood Warrior.
Thinking that his good brother was being surrounded and attacked by thousands, slaughtering wildly, Yale grew worried.
“Third brother!”
Yale’s fists unconsciously loosened and clenched, then loosened and clenched again. His tension was so obvious that even the servants noticed.
“Young master Yale, His Holiness the Pope has appeared. He severely wounded the demon. That demon has been taken back to the Holy See by the Church’s men.” The final message made Yale’s face turn deathly pale.
Hearing that ‘His Holiness the Pope’ had appeared, Yale knew things were bad.
“Squeak squeak~” A black blur suddenly appeared in the hotel.
“Bebe.” Yale saw the Shadowmouse and immediately ran over.
“Bebe, where’s the third brother?” Yale looked at the Shadowmouse and asked urgently.
The Shadowmouse ‘Bebe’ lacked his usual liveliness. He just looked at Yale and let out a few mournful, low whimpers. Yale could sense the grief and pain in his eyes. Though Bebe was a magical beast, his intelligence was no less than a human’s.
“Whoosh.” Bebe moved, then vanished from before Yale in a flash.
Yale stood there stunned.
“Young master Yale,” a nearby servant said softly.
“Let’s go. To my uncle’s place.” Yale suddenly stood up and ordered the servants.
In a remote secret room on the ninth floor of the Holy See, Linley was thrown in like a dead dog. Being imprisoned inside the Holy See showed how highly the Radiant Church valued him.
The Holy See was the Radiant Church’s most core location.
Even Saint-level experts wouldn’t dare to break in here.
“Ah.” The scales on Linley’s body had all retracted back inside. Now, Linley was covered in blood, with over a dozen wounds on his body. These wounds were all caused by the Radiant Pope ‘Heith.’ The external injuries were severe, but the internal ones were even worse.
All the bones in his limbs were broken. Linley could only grit his teeth and struggle to move his body, managing to lean his head against the wall.
“Linley.”
Dylin came flying out of the Coiling Dragon Ring, looking at Linley with eyes full of affection and helplessness.
“Grandpa Dylin.” Linley looked at Dylin.
Dylin sighed and transmitted mentally: “Linley. Do you regret it?”
“Regret?”
Linley shook his head. “No. Actually, I’ve only had two wishes in my life. One was to restore my clan’s glory. The second was to reach the pinnacle of cultivation. But if I hadn’t taken revenge, I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to sleep well at night. I would have been tormented for life.”
Dylin nodded. He could understand Linley’s thoughts.
“I lost, haha. I lost.”
Linley chuckled softly, feeling the pain all over his body. At this moment, anyone could easily trample him.
Lost!
When the Radiant Pope appeared, Linley had that feeling.
Losing meant death.
Linley had long been prepared for this. Every day, many people died in this world. Linley never thought he was immune to death.
“Linley, you might not die,” Dylin said.
“Hmm?” Linley looked at Dylin in confusion.
Dylin smiled faintly: “If the Radiant Pope wanted to kill you, he would have done so long ago. Why would he attack you several times, only injuring you but not killing you? Moreover… you haven’t realized that a king’s attraction to him is probably less than yours.”
Linley suddenly understood a bit.
“The second-greatest magical genius in history, almost certain to become a Saint-level magician. And the Radiant Pope also discovered that you’re a Dragonblood Warrior. He’d be even more reluctant to kill you. A Dragonblood Warrior is an ultimate warrior. Once they step into the Saint realm, they are definitely the strongest among Saint-level experts. In terms of attack power alone, they are no less than the Radiant Pope!” Dylin said with certainty.
Ultimate warriors were terrifying.
Ordinary people who step into the Saint realm have distinctions like Saint-level beginner, Saint-level intermediate, and Saint-level peak.
But once an ultimate warrior steps into the Saint realm, especially after Dragonforming, they are absolutely at the Saint-level peak. With strong defense and terrifying attack… even among Saint-level peak experts, ultimate warriors are likely the strongest.
“A genius like you, Heith won’t be willing to kill you until the very last moment.” After saying this, Dylin flew back into Linley’s Coiling Dragon Ring.
Linley’s heart was calm.
Life, death?
What Linley valued most was revenge.
“Even if he doesn’t kill me, Heith probably won’t let me kill Clayde,” Linley thought clearly. Failing to kill Clayde this time meant it would be very difficult to kill him in the future. Not being able to kill Clayde left Linley deeply unwilling.
“I wonder when I’ll be able to take revenge.”
Linley’s heart was full of helplessness.
At the top floor of the Holy See, the Radiant Pope Heith sat calmly on his throne.
Gillmer looked at the Radiant Pope in shock: “Your Holiness. That demon was Linley? This, this…”
Initially, Gillmer didn’t know it was Linley, but later, when the scales on Linley’s body retracted, Gillmer naturally discovered it. This scene shocked Gillmer.
“That wasn’t a demon, it was a Dragonblood Warrior!” Heith said indifferently, glancing at him.
Gillmer was stunned, then immediately understood: “Right, the Baruch clan is a Dragonblood Warrior clan. But it’s been over a thousand years since a Dragonblood Warrior appeared in that clan. I didn’t expect that this, this Linley was… Your Holiness, that was a Dragonblood Warrior?”
Recalling Linley’s terrifying fully Dragonformed appearance, Gillmer felt a shiver in his heart.
“Perhaps there’s some variation, but it should be a Dragonblood Warrior. Otherwise, how could his strength have increased so quickly?” Heith said calmly. “This Linley’s potential is too great. Although his mistake this time is not small, very few outsiders know that the demon was Linley.”
Gillmer immediately understood Heith’s meaning.
Linley’s potential was too great?
Gillmer sighed inwardly. Linley’s potential was terrifying. Not only was he terrifying in magic, but he was also an ultimate warrior. Both aspects were extreme to the limit. If such a person stayed in the Radiant Church, one could imagine that in a few decades, the Church would have a peak-level expert.
“Yes, Your Holiness. Outsiders all say it was a demon. Apart from the four deacons who escorted Linley, no one else knows it was Linley,” Gillmer said respectfully.
“Oh. Those four. Go deal with them,” Heith said coldly.
“Yes, Your Holiness,” Gillmer said respectfully. “Being able to return to the Lord’s embrace is their good fortune.”
Gillmer then lowered his voice: “Your Holiness, by the way, there’s one other person who knows the demon was Linley.”
“You mean… Clayde?” Heith said softly.
“Yes, Your Holiness.” Gillmer said with concern. “This Linley clearly has a deep hatred for Clayde, otherwise he wouldn’t have tried so desperately to kill him. Your Holiness, Clayde is also the king of the Finlay Kingdom. If we want to protect Linley, we might need to talk to this Clayde.”
“We do need to talk.”
A hint of a smile appeared on Heith’s face. “I’m curious. What deep hatred does this Linley have with him?”
At dusk, Clayde arrived at the top floor of the Holy See.
“Your Holiness the Pope.” Clayde bowed respectfully.
The Radiant Pope ‘Heith’ was sitting in a chair, flipping through a thick book without looking up: “Clayde. In your opinion, between Linley and you, who is more beneficial to the Holy Alliance?”
Clayde’s heart skipped a beat.
“Is the Pope going to protect Linley?” Clayde thought in fear.
After this incident, he realized that although Linley’s father and mother were not directly killed by him, they were both indirectly killed. If someone had to take responsibility for the deaths of Linley’s parents, he, Clayde, would bear ninety percent of the blame.
If it hadn’t been for him, Clayde, back then, identifying Linley’s mother and offering her up, how would Linley’s mother have died? And later, how would Linley’s father have died?
Clayde knew very well, especially when he saw the look of extreme hatred in Linley’s eyes after being severely wounded by the Radiant Pope, that—
“This Linley and I are irreconcilable. He cannot be allowed to live,” Clayde thought to himself.
“Clayde. No one knows that the widely rumored demon was Linley, right?” Heith looked at Clayde.
Hearing this, Clayde understood Heith’s intention even more and quickly said: “Your Holiness the Pope, Linley is indeed exceptionally gifted. He can be considered the absolute number one genius in thousands of years. Both as a magician and a warrior, he is a supreme genius. It is only right that Your Holiness wants him to serve the Church. However… he is destined to never serve us.”
These words from Clayde made Heith raise an eyebrow and look at him with a cold gaze.
Clayde was terrified inside.
But Clayde knew that if Linley didn’t die, he would have no peace in the future.
“Your Holiness the Pope, do you know why Linley wants to kill me?” Clayde quickly said.
“Keep it brief,” Heith said coldly.
Clayde immediately said: “Your Holiness the Pope, the reason Linley wants to kill me is that twelve years ago, I sent people to kidnap his mother. Later, his father was killed while investigating his mother’s situation. Both his father and mother can be considered to have died because of me.”
“The enmity of killing one’s parents is indeed great,” Heith nodded.
“But Your Holiness the Pope, do you still remember that woman from twelve years ago? The woman I gave to you?” Clayde looked at Heith.
Heith was stunned.
“You mean…” Heith’s expression changed.
“Yes. That woman was Linley’s biological mother!” Clayde said firmly.
“Your Holiness. If Linley stays in the Radiant Church, as his status rises, he might learn about the Church’s affairs. He will definitely find out how his mother died. Tell me… by then, would Linley still be loyal to the Radiant Church?” Clayde breathed a sigh of relief inwardly.
He believed that at this point, Heith would understand the gravity of the situation. Linley’s talent was high, but the stronger he became in the future, once he learned the truth, the greater the threat he would pose to the Radiant Church.
“So that’s how it is. A pity. What a pity for such a genius.” Heith sighed.
