Chapter 47: Tip of the Iceberg
"Bank, why did you join the Void Arena?"
Su Xiao began attempting to make small talk with the insectoid Bank.
"Bank is bored."
The insectoid Bank raised its arm blades, the two blade arms cutting in front of its body, moving so fast that afterimages appeared.
"Bank, the Law Destroyers and the Insect Race are friends, right?"
Su Xiao continued his attempt.
"The Law Destroyers and the Insect Race are not friends; they have a neutral relationship. The Law Destroyers are neutral—the most terrifying kind of absolute neutrality."
Bank's words made Su Xiao raise an eyebrow. He had previously defined the Shadow of Law Destruction as Lawful Chaos, a faction he had created himself. It seemed that wasn't the case at all.
The Shadow of Law Destruction was absolutely neutral, not leaning towards any side. Whoever violated the taboos, the Shadow of Law Destruction would temporarily become Neutral Evil or Chaotic Evil.
To some extent, absolute neutrality was actually more terrifying.
"I should have quite a few enemies this time, right?"
"Bank doesn't know, but Mage Sage Seraphilia has come to the arena to watch the matches. She is an enemy of the Law Destroyers."
A very important piece of information: Mage Sage Seraphilia.
"Are there any of my kind here this time?"
Su Xiao was probing a very important matter: whether there were other Shadows of Law Destruction in the Void.
"Impossible. The era of the Law Destroyers has passed. The only known Law Destroyer is one person, and he might not even be considered a Law Destroyer anymore."
Bank had also become interested. To be precise, since it was born, it had never seen a Shadow of Law Destruction. Most of them existed only in legends and stories.
And now, a legend appeared before its eyes. No wonder Bank had been trembling earlier.
"My appearance before you? Doesn't it surprise you?"
"Bank is not surprised. The number of Law Destroyers will only be reduced, never completely wiped out. This is a law of the Void. The Law Destroyers are the overseers of the balance between rules and elements. Within the elements, the Law Destroyers are supreme. The Void will not allow the Law Destroyers to disappear entirely."
Bank was a native of the Void and knew a lot about it.
Su Xiao didn't have much time. At most, a few minutes, and he would have to go to the arena's notary office to collect his number plate.
"Bank is very lucky to be the first to meet a Law Destroyer."
Bank's words stunned Su Xiao. That word 'first' was a very dangerous piece of information.
"You seem... to know I would appear here?"
"Twenty quarters of an hour ago, the arena distributed flyers."
Bank picked up a biological pouch from beside it. This thing was its backpack, a spatial item.
Soon, Bank rummaged through its backpack and found a flyer. Su Xiao took the flyer, his expression not looking good.
The flyer boldly proclaimed: 'The Law Destroyer, vanished for over a thousand years, has reappeared. Will the Void once again face the fear of the Law Destroyer? Everything will unfold at the 15,487th Void Arena.'
This slogan was very eye-catching, and it was in red font. Below the slogan was a photo of Su Xiao. In the photo, Su Xiao was smoking a cigarette while standing next to a pit, with over a dozen corpses inside.
Not only that, but Bubu Wang was also in the shot. This guy was holding a shovel, and the pit on the ground was the one he had dug.
"Woof!"
Bubu Wang barked loudly, very excited, meaning: "Master, we made the newspaper! And it's a Void newspaper!"
But a few seconds later, Bubu Wang wilted. The way he was holding the shovel was a bit ridiculous.
Seeing this photo, Su Xiao immediately thought back to the fourth game, when he was 'fishing' and got secretly photographed.
"Alice..."
There was no doubt about it; this must be Alice's doing.
Just as Su Xiao was thinking about his next move, a notification from Reincarnation Paradise appeared.
[Rest time has ended. The Hunter must proceed to the notary office as soon as possible to obtain the arena number plate.]
Su Xiao stood up and walked out of the room. The insectoid Bank followed. Having such a creature nearby that understood the Void and harbored no hostility was only beneficial, not harmful.
Walking out of the rest room, he was greeted by a spacious corridor. The style of the Void Arena was somewhat similar to the arenas of ancient Rome. The entire structure was made of stone, thick and grand, yet worn and majestic.
The entire Void Arena covered a large area. At its center was a circular arena with a floor covered in yellow sand. Surrounding it were massive, exaggerated circular stepped spectator stands. The official matches hadn't started yet, but the stands were already full. On the yellow sand field, over a dozen female warriors from the 'Lala Tower Star' were putting on an exhibition match—essentially a group of cute creatures 'fighting' each other. Judging by their fighting moves, there was a hint of fanservice, like exposed spots or torn clothes, which, combined with the blood-stained yellow sand, gave a beauty-and-beast visual.
The arena was divided into four areas.
The Combat Area, which was the central sand field and the spectator stands.
The Contestant Rest Area, which was the smallest area within the arena.
The Notary Office, which was for registration, arranging match orders, and collecting number plates.
The Logistics and Supply Area, which was completely sealed off by Alice, with contestants forbidden to enter.
...
Su Xiao's destination was the Notary Office. He walked down the corridor, sunlight streaming in through the windows.
Looking out from the arena, because he was at the edge, Su Xiao could see many strange and wonderful shops. Magic, technology, mechanical style—all kinds were countless.
In front of these shops was a stone-paved road. The pedestrians were dressed in various ways. Some wore full-body armor, others wore convenient kinetic mecha suits. They were races from different planets.
The level of technology on each planet was different. Not every planet was suitable for technology. Some planets, due to resource constraints, had very backward technology, but the native inhabitants used other techniques to replace technology, such as magic, biology, superpowers, etc. Each planet had its unique power system.
Not only that, but each planet was managed by various forces. These forces strictly prohibited cultural invasion.
For example, on a planet with backward technology but flourishing magic, if a Void merchant wanted to sell mecha suits there, they could only sell a small number, and the only purpose of these mecha suits was for collection. They required tedious approvals, and using the mecha suits for combat or labor on that planet was forbidden. At most, they could be collected by nobles.
Technology had many benefits, but it also had drawbacks. For example, on some planets where biology flourished, technological products were strictly forbidden, because technology could, to some extent, hinder the evolution of biological bodies towards a stronger level.
Each planet had its own style. One planet might still be a tribal system, while the next planet was filled with flying airships. This was the wonder of the Void. It was this very wonder that maintained the Void's prosperity and vastness.
Seeing these pedestrians in various attire and the bizarre shops, a surge of passion burned in Su Xiao's heart. This was just a very small scene in the Void. These shops were built to cater to the arena, serving the audience's consumption.
Bank stopped near Su Xiao.
"Law Destroyer, are you from another dimension?"
Bank seemed to have discovered something.
"Perhaps."
Su Xiao didn't give a clear answer. He couldn't reveal the existence of Reincarnation Paradise.
Having witnessed the wonders of the Void, although Su Xiao yearned for it, he wasn't in a hurry. He wasn't strong enough yet; setting foot in the Void would be too early.
Perhaps Reincarnation Paradise deliberately let Su Xiao witness the marvels of the Void, so that he would definitely enter the Void in the future. But that would take a very, very long time, at least until he was strong enough.
Moreover, obtaining the Proof of a Strongman wasn't just about breaking through the 80-point attribute barrier; it was also a kind of qualification to enter the Void. Otherwise, the method of obtaining the Proof of a Strongman wouldn't be so special.
PS: (I got stuck writing today, otherwise I wouldn't have updated so late. Four chapters tomorrow. And I'll try to update earlier.)
