Chapter 94: Fatty Ma
Inside the accessory shop, Fatty Ma leaned back on the sofa, a cigarette dangling from his mouth, his eyes fixed straight on the ceiling. On the coffee table in front of him lay a landmine caked with mud.
The fuse of this landmine had already been removed. Su Xiao hadn’t set up more dangerous tripwire mines in the backyard; what he needed was a warning, not to kill enemies with mines.
Even if Fatty Ma stepped on the mine and it exploded, it would at most make a loud noise. Its actual lethality would only knock Fatty Ma over.
“I’m telling you, you’re way too hardcore. Burying landmines in the backyard? Weren’t you an assassin before? I feel like you’re more of a spy.”
Fatty Ma took a shaky drag of his cigarette to calm his nerves. He didn’t know the actual power of this mine; he only thought it would blow him to pieces, just like in the movies.
“BKT-35 Type Warning Pressure Mine. This thing is at most a war toy, made of plastic, invented by some colleague. The explosion sound is similar to a firecracker. You can think of it this way: you just stepped on a firecracker with a 15-second delay. At most, it would’ve stunned you. No need to be so terrified.”
Su Xiao carried a black travel bag as he walked up from the basement.
“Easy for you to say. I almost pissed myself back then.”
Fatty Ma rolled his eyes.
“But, how many of these did you set up?”
“A few dozen.”
Su Xiao sat behind the counter and placed the travel bag on the wooden table inside.
“You’re insane.”
Fatty Ma took another drag of his cigarette, then suddenly burst out laughing.
“Does this count as me having stepped on a mine? Too bad I can’t brag about it.”
Fatty Ma was always tight-lipped about Su Xiao’s affairs. Su Xiao trusted Fatty Ma to some extent, since Fatty Ma had helped him lay low a few times.
Back when Su Xiao was taking revenge, he was hunted by other assassins. Fatty Ma found out about this by chance and gave Su Xiao the keys to his hometown, meaning for him to hide there. After that, Fatty Ma also disappeared for a while.
At the time, Su Xiao and Fatty Ma were only casual friends, but the location was remote enough. Su Xiao took refuge in a nearby town and set up warning devices at Fatty Ma’s home.
It turned out that Fatty Ma, then just an ordinary friend, didn’t betray Su Xiao. After that, Su Xiao trusted him a lot more.
Although Fatty Ma was a “feng shui master,” he was the kind of street con artist with some conscience, and he was very loyal.
Su Xiao sat behind the counter, and a smell similar to machine oil spread. Fatty Ma sniffed and curiously walked over.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa! Did you switch to being an arms dealer?!”
No wonder Fatty Ma was so shocked. On the wooden table behind the counter were three guns and a pile of gun parts.
When Su Xiao worked as an assassin, he rarely used guns, but that didn’t stop him from collecting some decent-looking firearms. Having spent a lot of time in the underworld, he had acquired various guns, all for collection.
Now, there were three guns on the table: a pistol, an automatic rifle, and a semi-automatic sniper rifle.
From Su Xiao’s current perspective, the combat performance of these three guns was mediocre, not ideal, but good enough.
However, he hadn’t known much about guns before. After acquiring them, he would tinker with them a bit and then store them permanently. This led to many problems due to lack of maintenance, which he was now fixing.
Having been out of touch with real-world arms dealers for too long, it was troublesome for Su Xiao to get new guns. As for his collection, only these few could still function, and the automatic rifle was at risk of jamming at any moment.
Su Xiao disassembled all three guns. Even with his current knowledge of firearms, fixing these problems wasn’t easy.
The pistol was an M9, with a 15-round magazine, a length of 217mm, a weight of 1.1kg, a muzzle velocity of 390 m/s, and a service life of over 5000 rounds. Its power was decent.
The automatic rifle was an M-416, with a 30-round magazine, using 5.56×45mm ammunition, a common collector’s item.
As for the semi-automatic sniper rifle, Su Xiao had given up on it. After getting it, he fired a few shots. With his shooting skills back then, he fully embodied the “shoot here, hit there” principle, which hurt his pride. Hai Dong had mocked him for a long time, and he abandoned the gun afterward. Without maintenance and in the damp environment under the concrete floor, the gun was half-ruined. Repairing it was harder than making a new one.
After meticulously maintaining the pistol and automatic rifle, Su Xiao looked at the two suppressors, one long and one short, beside him and twitched his mouth.
He had no idea what had possessed him back then to have these two guns modified to fit suppressors.
The pistol was fine, but as for the automatic rifle, Su Xiao had surprisingly found that even with a suppressor, the gunfire was still loud. Moreover, in situations where an automatic rifle was needed, whether the gunshot was heard or not didn’t really matter. Besides, suppressors weren’t as effective as imagined; they mostly protected hearing.
“Suppressor” was just a common term. The real name was “muzzle brake,” which reduced the noise and flash during firing but also lowered the bullet’s velocity.
Su Xiao finished maintaining the two guns, at least ensuring they wouldn’t jam or explode. As for accuracy, that would have to rely on luck plus marksmanship.
“Su Xiao, are you planning to rob a bank?”
Fatty Ma’s eyes sparkled as he stared at the two guns with great interest. Clearly, this was his first time seeing real firearms.
“Is this… an M416?”
Fatty Ma looked at the automatic rifle on the table.
“Oh? You know about guns?”
“Of course. I used it to wipe out a squad last night.”
“Huh?”
Su Xiao looked Fatty Ma up and down.
“Ahem, in the game…”
Su Xiao understood. As a classic firearm, it wasn’t strange for Fatty Ma to know about the M416.
“Want to give it a try?”
“Can I?”
“Of course… not.”
Even with a suppressor, the automatic rifle was still loud. Su Xiao had even suspected before whether that arms dealer had sold him a fake.
“The automatic rifle is a no-go, but the pistol is fine.”
Su Xiao inserted the magazine into the pistol, attached the suppressor, released the safety, and taught Fatty Ma the basics of using a handgun.
“Go to the basement. Remember to close the door.”
Fatty Ma took the pistol, grabbed two extra magazines, and excitedly rushed toward the basement.
“Remember to hold it with both hands. The recoil is no joke. Don’t blow your own head off. And aim at the wooden boxes in the basement.”
“Got it.”
Fatty Ma slammed the door shut with a bang, and soon, faint gunshots echoed from the basement.
When Su Xiao finished packing his bag and opened the basement door with the travel bag in hand, Fatty Ma was clumsily removing the empty magazine and inserting the last one.
Fatty Ma was squatting in a horse stance, holding the gun with both hands, his arms slightly bent. As he pulled the trigger, his arms extended forward.
Seeing this shooting posture, Su Xiao immediately thought: Was this the infamous “traitor’s shooting stance”? He instinctively stepped back behind the wall next to the door.
Pfft, pfft, pfft…
Fatty Ma’s arms moved back and forth as he fired with great enjoyment. Watching this, Su Xiao couldn’t help but twitch his mouth.
“Awesome.”
After emptying the magazine, Fatty Ma even blew on the muzzle, his face wearing a satisfied yet slightly lecherous smile.
