Chapter 70: Counterattack

Seeing this scene, Liuli and the other three’s eyes twitched. The durability of the Counter Shield far exceeded their expectations.

“Dawn, keep going.”

Liuli’s voice carried a hint of urgency. If Su Xiao recovered, they would be the ones to die.

“Give me five seconds.”

Dawn’s hands trembled. He had pursued attack power too single-mindedly, almost abandoning all other abilities. This brought many drawbacks, but in return, his attack power had reached a terrifying level.

Five seconds passed. Dawn stood up, picked up the giant hammer again, and used the same method as before—charging forward, raising the hammer, and striking with all his might.

The giant hammer fell, like a meteor colliding with the earth.

*Thump!*

The ground beneath Su Xiao’s feet cracked extensively. The Counter Shield was now covered in cracks. Blood dripped from Su Xiao’s chin, yet he still stood motionless in place.

Several dozen meters away, a sneaky figure appeared. It stood atop a stone pillar, looking toward Su Xiao.

After the second hammer strike, the Counter Shield around Su Xiao was on the verge of shattering. Combined with the bullets and the stone giant’s attacks, the shield wouldn’t last much longer.

“Soon, very soon we’ll be rid of this nightmare.”

Liuli’s breathing grew rapid. She still couldn’t figure out one thing—where had that husky that was always following him gone?

Just five more seconds, and Dawn would recover. With the remaining durability of the Counter Shield, it absolutely couldn’t withstand a third strike.

Suddenly, the motionless Su Xiao put away his Dragon-Slaying Flash. A short blade appeared in his hand. After a moment, he put that away and pulled out a crossbow.

As if receiving some information, Su Xiao put away the crossbow as well. A heavy sniper rifle materialized in his hands.

The muzzle slowly rose. Su Xiao seemed to be testing his aim.

*Bang!*

The Spider Empress fired a shot. The Counter Shield shattered. A bullet flew in, directly embedding itself into Su Xiao’s abdomen.

“Not good!”

Liuli’s pupils constricted sharply. She instinctively stood up.

*Bang!*

After the gunshot, Liuli was sent flying back several meters like a discarded ragdoll, crashing to the ground. Her left arm and a portion of her body had been blown apart, exploding into a mess of gore.

The moment Liuli was sent flying, Su Xiao’s gaze cleared. Several dozen meters away, Bubu Wang pulled his head back, ceasing to transmit information to Su Xiao.

As Su Xiao put away the Spider Empress, the Dragon-Slaying Flash reappeared in his hand.

“Block him.”

The female perception-type contractor stepped back. Dawn lifted his giant hammer and retreated. The earth-type contractor stepped forward, a yellow-brown glow flickering on his hands.

*Whoosh~*

A bullet shot toward Su Xiao at incredible speed.

Su Xiao swung his arm and slashed out with his blade. A sharp, crisp sound rang out. The bullet was deflected. He stepped onto a pool of blood on the ground—his own blood.

“My turn.”

Su Xiao stomped the ground beneath him and vanished from their sight in an instant. He had used the Shave technique.

*Pfft.*

Blood sprayed. The female perception-type contractor was bisected at the waist. In Su Xiao’s perception, she was more troublesome than Liuli. It was her assistance to Liuli that had kept Su Xiao controlled for so long.

As he cut down the female perception-type contractor with one slash, Su Xiao tilted his head. A bullet whizzed past his ear, ruffling his short black hair. He had actually dodged a sniper rifle bullet through sheer neural reflex speed.

“Dodged it?”

The earth-type contractor was shocked. He knew the speed of his teammate’s bullets well. Dodging such a bullet through speed alone seemed impossible to him.

Actually, nothing was impossible. As long as neural reflex speed was fast enough, agility was high enough, and combat experience was sufficient, dodging such bullets wasn’t difficult. Lan Jue’s Ghost Bee was more than twice as fast as these bullets, and Su Xiao had dodged those too. Compared to Lan Jue, that sniper’s bullets were nothing.

Dodging the bullet, Su Xiao quickly charged toward the burly man wielding the giant hammer. This guy’s threat wasn’t small either. If he got hit, even Su Xiao would fall on the spot.

Dawn’s jaw muscles bulged. He raised his giant hammer, ready to bring it down on the charging Su Xiao.

The giant hammer descended. Mid-charge, Su Xiao sidestepped and leaped, barely dodging the hammer.

The long blade thrust forward. Cyan Steel Shadow energy surged along the blade.

*Pfft.*

The long blade pierced through Dawn’s lower jaw and exited through the back of his head. Just as Su Xiao prepared to finish him with a few more strikes, Dawn’s body went limp. This surprised Su Xiao. If not for the kill notification, he would have thought the guy was playing dead. His build didn’t look like a “glass cannon” at all.

Now, only the half-conscious Liuli and the earth-type contractor remained on the field. As for the sniper in the distance, there was no rush to deal with him.

As Su Xiao finished off Dawn, he shifted his footing. His forward momentum didn’t stop as he charged toward the earth-type contractor. From start to finish, he had barely paused.

Mid-charge, Su Xiao suddenly leaped half a meter into the air.

*Boom.*

A half-meter-tall stone pillar rose from the ground. Su Xiao landed perfectly on top of it in a crouch—fluid and graceful.

Crouching on the stone pillar, the muscles in his legs slightly bulged. The Dragon-Slaying Flash returned to its sheath.

He pushed off with his legs, launching himself like a cannonball toward the earth-type contractor.

With a crash, the stone pillar beneath him shattered. In an instant, he was already five meters in front of the earth-type contractor.

Seeing this distance, the earth-type contractor breathed a sigh of relief. He planned to restrict Su Xiao’s speed and then retreat.

“Ring Break: Blood Blade.”

*Clang.*

Over a dozen blood-red blade auras slashed toward the earth-type contractor. He raised his palm, and three stone walls rose in front of him.

*Swoosh~*

The blood-red blade auras cut through the stone walls. Moments later, several heavy thuds came from behind the walls. The stone walls crumbled, burying the earth-type contractor beneath them. Blood seeped out from the pile of rubble.

Midair, Su Xiao formed a 100-point-strength energy shield beside him.

*Bang.*

A bullet struck the energy shield just in time. The shield shattered, its strength barely enough to stop the bullet.

Using the bullet’s impact, Su Xiao landed behind a weathered stone wall. He stabbed the Dragon-Slaying Flash into the ground beside his foot, pulled out the Spider Empress—eight bullets left in the cylinder.

Su Xiao leaned sideways, exposing the upper half of his body from behind the stone wall. He raised the gun, aimed, and slowed his breathing. A bullet flew toward him.

*Bang.*

The bullet was blocked by another energy shield. The moment the shield shattered, Su Xiao pulled the trigger. The crosshairs in his sight had already locked onto the enemy 300 meters away.

The enemy was hiding atop a stone pillar over twenty meters high. It was a decent sniping position—providing fire support without being too high to avoid concentrated enemy fire.

Su Xiao pulled the trigger.

*Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang…*

After five shots, the top of the stone pillar 300 meters away was blown apart. Rubble mixed with broken corpses fell down.

Having done all this, Su Xiao put away the Spider Empress, pulled the Dragon-Slaying Flash from the ground, and spat out a mouthful of bloody saliva.

Su Xiao walked toward the dazed Liuli. Liuli regained some consciousness. She was about to use her mental link to communicate with her teammates when she realized the link had disappeared.

Realizing this, Liuli’s eyes dimmed. She looked around and saw a pile of rubble seeping blood, a teammate with a pierced skull, and the female perception-type contractor crawling painfully on the ground with only her upper body left.

Seeing that there were still living teammates, Liuli’s eyes moistened. At that moment, a long blade pierced down through the female perception-type contractor’s chest, straight through her heart.

“Don’t…”

Liuli tried to get up, but part of her left side was destroyed. She couldn’t stand.

“Farewell, Nursery Rhyme Beauty.”

Without waiting for Liuli to speak, Su Xiao swung his blade and struck. Liuli was a cute girl, but her ability was dangerous. It had nearly cost Su Xiao his life earlier.
