Chapter 4: Plea for Help
The blade aura slashed toward him head-on, and the Mummy immediately controlled the Elite Infected to block it.
The Elite Infected’s front claws stomped the ground, its body rising upright, perfectly shielding the Mummy on its back.
The pale blue blade aura struck the Elite Infected’s chest, splattering dark red blood as the creature let out a scream.
This stunned the Mummy, but then great joy surged within him. Mutated Dead Bodies were supposed to be devoid of pain and intelligence, yet this Elite Infected not only showed resistance but also felt pain—an extremely rare occurrence.
However, the Mummy had no time to dwell on this. He desperately wanted to know what was happening on the rooftop. How had over eighty percent of the infected he created perished in an instant?
Just as the Mummy was filled with confusion and hesitating whether to go to the rooftop to investigate, Su Xiao was already standing at the edge of the rooftop, holding the Dragon-Slaying Flash.
“Melee fighter?”
The Mummy was clearly bewildered, but upon seeing Su Xiao, he suddenly recalled a saying his boss once told him: ‘If you encounter a lone wanderer, especially one with no weaknesses, and they attack you for no reason, contact me immediately.’
After a moment of consideration, the Mummy controlled the Elite Infected to retreat.
Sensing the Mummy’s intent to flee, Su Xiao leaped from the rooftop. Midair, he slashed several times toward the Mummy, sending pale blue blade aura flying.
The Mummy directed the Elite Infected to dodge left and right, the blade aura cutting deep gashes into the road.
After evading three slashes, two crossed into a cross-shaped blade aura flew toward the Mummy.
Just as the Mummy was about to command the Elite Infected to dodge, the creature suddenly halted, a bloodstain appearing on its neck.
A sharp metal thread had embedded itself into the Elite Infected’s neck—it was the Realm Severing Thread Su Xiao had set up.
The moment the Elite Infected stopped, Su Xiao landed.
Both feet planted on the asphalt road, cracks spreading beneath him. The instant he landed, he used ‘Shave.’
With a whoosh, in less than a second, Su Xiao appeared before the Mummy.
Just as the long blade was about to descend, Su Xiao stomped the ground, leaving a footprint, and distanced himself from the Mummy.
A cloud of yellow smoke spread from the Mummy’s body. Su Xiao’s left arm touched the smoke, which had adhesive properties. The fabric on his arm was corroded into tatters, and the skin on his left arm looked like it had been burned by sulfuric acid. Fortunately, his Stamina attribute was high enough; the yellow smoke couldn’t burn through his skin immediately.
[You are being eroded by high-concentration Mutated Dead Body Virus. Stamina attribute check in progress…]
[Check passed. Mutation negated. You will take 30 points of viral damage per second for 1 minute.]
Sizzle~
Green smoke wafted from Su Xiao’s left arm, accompanied by a piercing, searing pain.
Just as the Mutated Dead Body Virus was about to continue eroding his arm, Cyan Steel Shadow Energy surged forth, instantly devouring and purifying the virus.
Violators were generally hard to deal with. If he hadn’t taken one out with a sniper shot, the situation would be even more troublesome now.
“Friend, no grudges here, no need to be so ruthless.”
The Mummy’s body emitted smoke, the ground around him sizzling as it corroded.
A large group of infected approached, drawn by the noise—ordinary civilians coming to see the commotion, also infected with the Dead Body Virus.
“…”
Su Xiao stared silently at the Mummy, flexing his left arm. After confirming it was fine, he charged at the Mummy.
The Mummy’s expression darkened. The enemy showed no possibility of negotiation—just drew a blade and attacked, not a single wasted word.
“Boss, if you don’t come soon, you’ll be collecting my corpse.”
The Mummy repeatedly sent distress signals in the team channel. The other two Violators replied, but the leader of the Gentleman Alliance remained silent.
The other two Violators were rushing over at full speed, but they were too far away.
On the battlefield, waves of infected lunged at Su Xiao.
Blade light flashed. Amid the sounds of limbs being severed, large numbers of infected were chopped apart. Against these creatures, Su Xiao, a melee specialist, cut through them like slicing vegetables.
Su Xiao kicked away a lunging infected, slashing a blade aura through the gaps between several infected. The aura howled toward the Mummy.
The Mummy quickly commanded the Elite Infected to dodge, but it was a bit too slow.
The blade aura effortlessly severed one of the Mummy’s arms. His face twitched; if he hadn’t dodged in time, his head would have been taken.
The Mummy’s melee ability was pathetically weak. He was a summoner-type contractor; as long as there were living beings around, he had an endless supply of cannon fodder.
If his boss hadn’t ordered him not to cause too much commotion, the first thing he would have done upon entering the derivative world was to create a massive army of cannon fodder.
A large number of infected fell. These weren’t counted as kills by Su Xiao, as there were no kill notifications.
The moment these civilians were infected, they were already dead; what drove their movements was the virus within.
The Mummy tried to retreat using the infected as cover, but Su Xiao immediately slashed a blade aura, pinning him down.
The Mummy attempted to escape multiple times, but each time, he was blocked by blade aura or the elusive Realm Severing Thread.
Twenty seconds later, the second wave of infected was completely slaughtered.
Su Xiao flicked his long blade, flinging off the filthy blood. He had a few claw marks on him—fighting large numbers of infected inevitably led to injuries.
Just as the second wave was wiped out, the Mummy had already prepared a third, but he knew these ordinary infected couldn’t stop Su Xiao.
The Mummy’s expression twisted. He had a chance to escape, but he didn’t dare. The severed arm and the blade wounds on his body constantly reminded him that even if the enemy was surrounded by infected, turning his back would cost him dearly. Moreover, there was an almost imperceptible metal thread around him that had nearly taken his head several times.
In less than half a minute, over seventy percent of the third wave of infected were dead or wounded. It seemed Su Xiao would break through in under ten seconds.
The Mummy knew clearly that if this blade-wielding man got close, he wouldn’t even have a chance to beg for mercy.
In such a desperate situation, the Mummy grew furious. He pressed his hand to his chest, a pained expression on his face.
Just as the Mummy was about to go all out, a message appeared in the Gentleman Alliance’s team channel.
Red Jester: “Mummy, what are the enemy’s traits?”
Seeing this, the Mummy quickly retracted the ability he was about to activate and replied rapidly in the team channel.
“Male, around 20 years old, weapons are a blade and a sniper rifle, extremely strong in melee. Boss, save me! Number 5 is dead, so no one can block him. I can’t even use my full strength. Activate the coordinates now?”
The Mummy let out a long sigh, as if Red Jester’s words had lifted the pressure Su Xiao had been putting on him.
Red Jester: “What’s the reason for the hostility?”
Mummy: “No reason! This guy one-shot Number 5 with a sniper without a word, then started hunting me.”
Yan Yao: “Mummy, you’ve been jerking off too much, right? No reason and he’d go all out to hunt you?”
Mummy: “Shut the hell up with your sarcasm! This guy’s a madman. Not a single word, just comes at you swinging. There’s no negotiating!”
Red Jester: “Everyone shut up. Mummy, hold on for 2 minutes. I’m coming.”
Mummy: “Thanks, boss.”
Yan Yao: “Tch, wasting the boss’s teleportation opportunity.”
Closing the team channel, the Mummy felt the pressure lift. But at that moment, a long blade appeared before his eyes.
The Mummy’s expression froze. Two seconds ago, there were still over a hundred infected surrounding the enemy—how had he broken through?
