Chapter 18: A Frustrating Way to Die
Dragon-Slashing Flash was clamped tightly by the stone-axe native’s teeth, making it nearly impossible for Su Xiao to withdraw the blade.
Furthermore, do not forget that besides the stone-axe native, there were six natives holding wooden spears surrounding Su Xiao. These spear-wielding natives had no concept of chivalry; they believed in overwhelming their enemy with numbers.
While the stone-axe native bit down on Dragon-Slashing Flash, six wooden spears thrust toward Su Xiao.
Su Xiao kicked the stone-axe native’s jaw. With a crisp crack, the native’s jaw deformed.
Just as he pulled out Dragon-Slashing Flash, sharp pain shot through his chest and thigh. Two wooden spears had pierced his body.
He had no idea what material these natives used for their spears, but after being sharpened, they were even sharper than metal.
Pfft, pfft, pfft.
Three more wooden spears stabbed through Su Xiao’s body. Only one of the six natives had missed.
Injuries in battle were inevitable, especially when Su Xiao was being surrounded.
After the five natives stabbed him, they immediately began lifting him higher. If both his feet left the ground, Su Xiao would be done for.
In this critical moment, Su Xiao remained expressionless, his gaze shifting to the two natives on his left.
A flash of gleaming blade light cut through the night sky. With one slash, Su Xiao cleaved off a native’s head, and with another, he struck a nearby native’s chest.
The decapitated native collapsed, while the other, seemingly unfazed, continued lifting its wooden spear higher.
Blood dripped down the spears, and pain flooded his nervous system.
Ignoring the agony throughout his body, Su Xiao shot out his Realm Severing Thread, firmly binding one native.
Though the wounds on his body were torn wider, the natives had only lifted him about a dozen centimeters off the ground.
Gripping Dragon-Slashing Flash with both hands, Su Xiao swung his blade, severing one wooden spear. That spear had pierced his lower abdomen and exerted the most upward force.
The five surviving natives began to retreat, but one of them, tangled in the Realm Severing Thread, didn’t get far.
Su Xiao looked at the surrounding natives, a smile spreading across his face. He wasn’t dead, so his enemies would be.
Dragon-Slashing Flash thrust forward. The blade’s edge cut through the air, piercing straight through a native’s brain.
At the same time, a bomb dropped from Su Xiao’s sleeve.
Boom.
Though the bomb exploded, it didn’t produce a shockwave. Instead, it burst into blinding light—a flashbang.
In the night, the flashbang was like a small sun. The natives’ vision went white, and tears uncontrollably streamed from their eyes.
Pfft, pfft.
Sounds of flesh being cut came from within the blinding light. Su Xiao killed two more natives and severed all the spears embedded in his body.
Stepping onto the ground, Su Xiao tried to break out of the encirclement, but a numbing sensation spread from his neck.
Among the remaining combat-effective natives, three were left: two holding broken spears and the elderly native standing at a distance.
This attack came from the elderly native, who specialized in ranged combat using a blowgun.
Su Xiao stepped back a few paces. The numbness, starting from his neck, rapidly spread to half his body.
He touched his neck and found a small wooden dart lightly embedded in his skin. The dart was likely made from some plant’s thorn, with animal feathers tied to its tail.
[You are being eroded by ‘Poison Dart Frog Neurotoxin.’ Resistance to abnormal status being judged. Physique attribute being judged.]
[Physique attribute judgment passed.]
[Resistance to abnormal status judgment failed!]
[You are taking 10 points of True Damage per second. Effect lasts 50 seconds.]
[Your nervous system is 7% paralyzed. Effect lasts 5 minutes.]
The blowgun native had held back until now, unfazed even as its comrades fell. It was waiting for an opportunity—a chance to land a sure hit.
Half of Su Xiao’s body went numb, and his movements became sluggish.
Three natives remained: two unarmed and the most dangerous one, who, judging by his attire, might be the tribe’s leader.
“Tuma sasa (Unknown Language).”
The blowgun native waved its hand, and the two natives with broken spears began advancing toward Su Xiao.
Fighting an entire tribe alone was exhausting. If not for the lack of food and fresh water, Su Xiao wouldn’t have started this battle with them.
This was a fight for survival. The trial world was this cruel—either choose your own death or seize others’ resources to live.
Though the ‘Poison Dart Frog Neurotoxin’ was troublesome, Su Xiao could neutralize it. He just needed time.
Anything that invaded his body, whether energy or poison, the Cyan Steel Shadow Energy would try to expel these ‘intruders.’
Su Xiao’s mana was fused with his blood and body, and so was the Cyan Steel Shadow Energy.
Unfortunately, the poison dart frog toxin wasn’t energy. The Cyan Steel Shadow Energy couldn’t handle it quickly. Though it could purge it, it required time.
Su Xiao rapidly converted his mana into Cyan Steel Shadow Energy. After a few seconds, some feeling returned to his legs.
Regaining sensation in his legs was good news. Though the left side of his body was still numb, causing his gait to be off, he now had the capital to fight.
The two natives charged forward, while the blowgun native behind them loaded another dart and aimed at Su Xiao.
This put Su Xiao in a tough spot. With a distant threat, he couldn’t focus on the fight.
Just as the two natives closed in, a roar echoed from afar.
The two natives immediately turned their heads. It was their leader’s roar. The blowgun native was furious—it had been ambushed by Bubu Wang.
Bubu Wang’s stealth ability was undeniable. It had sneaked up behind the blowgun native and bit its butt.
This bite was crucial, giving Su Xiao the chance to deal with the two spear-wielding natives.
The opportunity was fleeting. Su Xiao charged at the two spear natives.
A brutal hand-to-hand battle ensued. With half his body numb, Su Xiao’s slashing movements were distorted. However, the two natives’ spears had been broken earlier, greatly reducing their threat.
Three minutes later, the two spear natives fell. Su Xiao wasn’t in good shape either. A bruise had formed on his cheek, and blood dripped from the corner of his mouth.
Su Xiao’s fight was over, but Bubu Wang’s was still raging.
Bubu Wang clamped down on the blowgun native’s butt, curling its body into a ball and cleverly covering its eyes with its furry front paws.
The blowgun native was in despair. No matter how much it punched or kicked backward, this dog refused to let go. It even stabbed Bubu Wang with the poison dart frog blowgun, but to no avail.
Bubu Wang’s body came from a dark purple quality scroll, making it a high-level creature. The poison dart frog’s toxin was nothing to it.
With Bubu Wang biting the enemy’s rear, Su Xiao attacked from the front.
Though the blowgun native was a ranged fighter, its physical strength was astonishing, and its close-combat skills weren’t weak. Unfortunately, with Bubu Wang hanging from its butt, it couldn’t fully utilize its melee abilities.
The blowgun native fought Su Xiao while shaking the Bubu Wang on its butt. The scene was somewhat comical, but the battle was exceptionally brutal.
Half an hour later, the blowgun native clutched its spurting throat, falling to the ground with a face full of disbelief. Still hanging from its butt was a battered and bruised Bubu Wang.
Bubu Wang’s mouth was swollen to the size of its neck, looking utterly adorable. Its eyes seemed to ask, ‘Master, wasn’t I brave?’
Bubu Wang was indeed brave. Not only that, but it had also learned Su Xiao’s ruthless tenacity—no matter how the enemy beat it, it simply refused to let go.
