Chapter 27: The World's Mission
A full 400,000 Wolf Cavalry soldiers charged into Moonlight Fortress, besieging the elven forces within.
A spectacular scene unfolded: the entire battlefield formed a circular shape, with elven warriors at the center and Wolf Cavalry surrounding them. Not only that, but some Wolf Cavalry who couldn't push forward formed into groups of 5,000, creating wedge-shaped charge formations.
Each group of 5,000 Wolf Cavalry would first rush out through the city gates, form up outside, then begin their charge. When they passed through the gates and entered the fortress, their charge formation had already reached full speed.
After this charging force arrived, the allied troops in the encirclement would open a gap, allowing the charging force to plunge into the enemy ranks. The scene was like a red-hot iron cone piercing through cream.
After completing one charge, those 5,000 Wolf Cavalry would be surrounded by the enemy, but that didn't matter. The next charging formation would immediately assemble, still charging from outside, passing through the gates, and stabbing into the enemy's formation.
After more than a dozen consecutive charges, nearly 70,000 Wolf Cavalry converged at the center of the enemy forces and began fighting their way outward. Keep in mind, the enemy was still surrounded.
This wasn't even the most despairing part. The Wolf Cavalry on the outer perimeter weren't fighting continuously; they operated on a rotation system. After fighting on the outer ring for 20-30 minutes, the Wolf Cavalry waiting in the rear would come to relieve them.
The reason this scene occurred was the presence of the Dire Wolf Leader. Through the dire wolves, it compensated for the chaotic and disorderly nature of the orc soldiers.
Charge, encircle, rotate, internal counter-charge—aside from these, the Demon Flame Dragon Barbatos kept spewing dragonflame.
Under this multi-layered siege, the trapped elven warriors were completely overwhelmed. Most of them had already lost their bearings, unable to tell north from south. The cavalry charges were simply too brutal.
Three hours into the battle, Elven Elder Ruth attempted to surrender multiple times, only to be ignored each time. When he tried to surrender for the sixth time, the surrounding Wolf Cavalry stopped attacking and withdrew to the perimeter, their bloodshot eyes fixed on the elves.
Elven Elder Ruth suddenly realized that his own elven warriors numbered less than 10,000, while the tens of thousands of elves around him were all civilians filled with despair.
Su Xiao's pre-battle order was clear: not a single elven warrior was to be spared. The Chaos Legion's reputation for cruelty was deeply ingrained. Aside from doing good deeds, no one would be surprised by anything the Chaos Legion did.
This was the advantage of an evil faction—no need to hide their actions or fabricate a high-sounding excuse.
As for elven civilians, they were a valuable resource. As a representative of the good-aligned faction, the elves dared not abandon these civilians, or else major problems would arise in the Elven Great Forest.
One elven civilian for one unit of grain—that is, one ton of grain. As long as the grain was provided, Su Xiao wouldn't hesitate to release them immediately. This concerned future credibility.
Blood flowed like a river within Moonlight Fortress. The casualties on their own side would have to be tallied after the battle. For now, the priority was to organize the grain resources within the fortress. The Grey Orcs had already been spoiled by Su Xiao's feeding—now they only ate meat, and the dire wolves were even more so, born carnivores.
Elven Elder Ruth emitted a faint blue light particles, and the civilians around him gradually calmed down, clearly affected by some kind of soothing ability.
Wind pressure appeared overhead as Demon Flame Dragon Barbatos landed with a thunderous boom, its dragon wings drooping low. Su Xiao slowly walked down from it.
"I am Elven Elder, Ruth."
Ruth forced a smile, maintaining the elves' dignity in his own way.
"Each civilian will be ransomed for 3,000 Gland of grain."
"This..."
Ruth's face showed difficulty. Just as he hesitated, Su Xiao stopped walking forward and fixed his gaze on the other.
Under Su Xiao's stare, Ruth suddenly thought of the tragically killed Elven Prince Valen.
"I will have the Ancient Tree Fortress send the grain."
Ruth no longer hesitated. Clearly, this elven elder, who had lived nearly 300 years, had seen through the current situation.
"Send the grain before sunset. As for your own ransom, you can assess it yourself."
Leaving these words, Su Xiao walked toward the rear side of the fortress.
[Notification: The Moonlight Battle has ended. Battle settlement in progress...]
[You have obtained the Title: Elf Nemesis (★★★★★).]
[You have obtained 45,000 Battle Merits (this is the battle reward).]
[You have obtained 213,950 Battle Merits (this is the kill-based battle merit reward).]
...
A five-star title was acquired. Su Xiao checked the properties of the [Elf Nemesis] title. This title had only one ability: when fighting against elves, it suppressed all of the opponent's attributes and randomly sealed one of their abilities.
When fighting elves, this title was extremely powerful, but compared to upgrading War Lord, its effect was negligible.
Su Xiao reviewed his current titles. If he synthesized all the titles he didn't need, he could obtain another five-star title. Including [Elf Nemesis], he still needed three more five-star titles to upgrade War Lord's rank.
Su Xiao's initial goal was the Battle Merit Ranking, to obtain the first-place reward of the Dragon Hunter Set, which was a Holy Spirit-ranked melee set.
Once enough battle merits were obtained, the second phase of the main mission would basically reach its time limit. By then, Su Xiao would begin searching for the Void Tree Fruit. Without prior accumulation, he couldn't search for the Void Tree Fruit—this world was too dangerous, and the human wave tactic was too unstoppable.
Lost in thought, Su Xiao arrived at the rear of the fortress. Baha was directing numerous Grey Orcs to inventory supplies. Bubu Wang and Amu were both there.
At this moment, Amu was still riding a dire wolf. The wolf's four legs were splayed slightly outward and trembling non-stop, on the verge of doing a full split. This dire wolf... seemed to be crying.
According to Baha's statistics, the gains from this battle were quite good. The spoils were as follows:
Grain-type food: 32,620 units (1 unit = 1 ton)
Dried meat: 22,900 units (easy to store)
Dried fruit: 420 units.
Alcoholic beverages: 93 units.
Weapons, armor, etc.: 23,700 pieces.
...
The dried meat obtained was enough for about 6 days of consumption. As for the grain, Black Furnace City would come to take it over.
After inventorying the supplies, Su Xiao walked toward the city wall. Once on the wall, he looked southward, where the Ancient Tree Fortress lay.
In short, the elven front-line defense in the war zone had been broken through by Su Xiao. Both 'Blazing Valley Fortress' and 'Moonlight Fortress' were tough nuts to crack. Next was 'Ancient Tree Fortress,' which had very special formations—or rather, the fortress itself was a super-giant war weapon.
If he could flatten 'Ancient Tree Fortress,' then 'New Moon Fortress' would follow. As for what lay beyond, that was the Elven Great Forest, the elves' home base.
That's right, Su Xiao was heading straight for the Elven Great Forest. He wouldn't seek out the other factions until he had completely crushed the elves.
...
Elven Great Forest, Elanyel City.
'Elanyel City' was located deeper within the Elven Great Forest, surrounded by lush green mountains. Several waterfalls produced a rushing sound, making this nature-embraced city appear breathtakingly beautiful. Many painters traveled thousands of miles to this place, just to capture 'Elanyel' on their canvases.
Inside a grand hall, numerous plants grew there, neatly trimmed, eliminating any sense of coldness and filling the space with vitality.
A female elf with long golden hair, dressed in a white gauze gown, sat on a throne woven from plants. Her skin was fair, giving off a gentle and beautiful impression. Looking at her, one might even have the illusion that her entire body radiated a warm glow. This was the Elf Queen.
Before the Elf Queen, several elven elders knelt on one knee. The only sound in the hall was the rustling of plant leaves in the breeze.
"Your Majesty, we cannot yield to the War Demon."
"That's right, we cannot bow to the wicked..."
Several elven elders spoke in succession. But deep down, they all knew that this time, they had to back down, or else there would be major trouble.
"No need to panic. The world is protecting us."
The Elf Queen spoke softly. She looked out the window at the distant sunset and continued:
"The one beloved by the world is already on his way. Killing the War Demon is his mission as a hero. The world... has bestowed this mission upon him."
