Chapter 13: Prison Break

Inside the alternate space, the Goddess of Fortune’s soul nearly leaped out in fright. She had originally believed Su Xiao hadn’t noticed her, only for this scene to unfold before her.

*Blade Path Sword: Time.*

*Thump~*

A shockwave spread. Su Xiao was about to strike but stopped in place, because he realized that the Goddess of Fortune here had no life aura.

“Found me~. I am a goddess after all; projecting myself with energy is one of my best abilities. This isn’t because I’m scared, you know. It’s called being cautious.”

The Goddess of Fortune appeared calm and composed, but in truth, she was greatly alarmed. The moment Su Xiao lunged at her, the blood aura surging toward her made her mistakenly believe she was truly present.

“...”

Su Xiao said nothing. He simply extended one hand forward. Dark blue smoke formed a vortex in his palm, and the body of the Goddess of Fortune ahead gradually turned into pale golden mist, drawn together by the swirl.

“Law Destroyer, we don’t really have any deep-seated hatred. How about we talk?”

The Goddess of Fortune’s voice came from all around.

“Fine.”

“Really?”

There was a hint of excitement in her tone. In truth, she didn’t want to remain in a semi-hostile relationship with a Law Destroyer either, lest those two remnants of the Ancestral Law Destroyers pay her another visit—that was a terrifying prospect.

“Yes. Face to face.”

“Face to face... talk? If I appear before you, will you really talk? Won’t you knock me down and do something strange to me?”

“No.”

“Then swear it. On the honor of a Law Destroyer.”

“Alright. I swear.”

“Goodbye!”

The Goddess of Fortune’s aura dissipated. She had once encountered a seemingly kind Law Destroyer who swore on the honor of a Law Destroyer, then beat her half to death and demanded she boost his luck. That time, she was beaten to tears—a memory that lingered.

Su Xiao withdrew from the alternate space. He faintly sensed that the Goddess of Fortune’s aura hadn’t completely vanished; a trace remained.

A wisp of pale golden mist gathered in Su Xiao’s hand. He took out a glass bottle, inverted it, and captured the golden mist inside. This was energy belonging to the Goddess of Fortune. With this, finding her was only a matter of time. He felt she should be somewhere in the Void.

The Death Game monsters were still in the cultivation stage. Su Xiao brought Baha along and headed out of the room. As for Bubu Wang, it was lying on its back on the bed, snoring loudly.

Amu had also successfully regrouped earlier. As soon as they met, Su Xiao sent Amu off alone to complete a task in the Northern Border.

The adjacent room had already been set up. Su Xiao had commissioned High Lord Old Snake Man to prepare it, and it had become a somewhat crude Alchemy Laboratory.

Descending to the third underground level of the fortress, the air was damp. Along a corridor nearly five meters wide, rows of cells lined both sides, holding prisoners of the Duoyin race, Elves, Dwarves, and others.

For these prisoners, as long as the Six-Tribe Alliance traded food for them, the Chaos Legion wouldn’t refuse. The place was desperately short of supplies.

Before he had gone far, Su Xiao spotted the Grey Orc Wobol and his dozen or so personal guards. The cell they were watching held the Mage Apprentice Pepeini.

“Wobol, come with me.”

Su Xiao had come to the dungeon specifically, not to find Wobol. If he wanted him, he could have sent another Grey Orc to deliver the message.

His main purpose here was to arrange a prison break for the Mage Apprentice Pepeini and a high-ranking noble of the Duoyin Empire. This noble, once captured, would never leave alive.

Su Xiao needed to investigate who held the Void Tree Fruit. The Duoyin Empire couldn’t be overlooked. If the fruit was there, it would certainly be in the hands of a strong individual or someone in power.

Currently, Su Xiao couldn’t enter the Duoyin Empire’s royal capital. This cowardly noble was the key. Letting him escape back and secretly investigate was the best approach.

Baha had already held a secret talk with the noble, who then drank an alchemical potion. The rest was simple: have the Mage Apprentice Pepeini collaborate with the noble to escape.

The Goddess of Fortune had only arrived in this world via an energy projection, meaning Pepeini had lost most of her value. Releasing her might yield unexpected gains.

Su Xiao could not only track Pepeini’s location at any time but also cause her sudden death if needed.

Taking the Grey Orc Wobol, Su Xiao headed toward the dungeon entrance. Shortly after he left, a loud crash echoed from above the dungeon.

*Boom!*

Dust rained down from the ceiling. The Grey Orcs in the dungeon all rushed outward, clearly responding to some incident.

In the dark dungeon, Pepeini, curled up in a corner, looked up. She wasn’t afraid now; she had grown accustomed to this, her courage skyrocketing.

*Clang!*

The door to Pepeini’s cell fell outward entirely.

“Huh?!”

Pepeini’s clear eyes were filled with immense confusion.

After much deliberation, Pepeini approached the cell door, struggled with all her might to prop it back up against the frame, then returned to her corner. Outside was unsafe—full of Grey Orcs.

It could only be said that Pepeini had indeed matured. If she were caught escaping, the consequences would be dire. She felt she had some value, which was why she was still alive.

Seeing this, the noble in the opposite cell nearly spat blood. He had encountered a useless teammate.

“Hey, woman over there—yes, you. Let’s escape together.”

...

In a room on the seventh floor of the fortress, Su Xiao watched a tablet screen. In the darkness, Pepeini, the noble, and three other prisoners were sneaking between buildings in the city. Of this group of five, only two were meant to escape. The “escape script” had been planned long ago.

Putting away the tablet, Su Xiao began taking out various items from his storage space. Before him lay the Grey Orc Wobol on a stone table.

“If you don’t die, by tomorrow morning, you’ll be a Grey Orc hero.”

Su Xiao picked up a plasma cutting saw beside him. Wobol needed modification—at least enough strength to charge to the front lines without dying. To gain such power, a price had to be paid.

Soon, Wobol’s agonized screams echoed from the room.

...

The morning sun spilled down, and the entire Black Melt City seemed to awaken. Amidst wisps of cooking smoke, Grey Orcs and Serpentfolk began a new day. Unfortunately, due to food shortages, more than half of the city’s residents had no breakfast.

Fortress, fifth floor, War Council Hall.

The hall was lavishly built, with a tall black-gold throne at the head. It had once belonged to the Dark Lord Agamemnon, but no one had sat in it for a long time.

Su Xiao sat at the lowest seat. Given the Chaos Legion’s current situation, seating order was irrelevant.

Old Snake Man hadn’t come; he was busy preparing food, weapons, and armor for the war.

A horned High Lord sat across from Su Xiao. His name was Arkadia, and he commanded all of the Chaos Legion’s war forces. He was somewhat taciturn, a hybrid of Grey Orc and Ice Descendant.

For someone of such bloodline to rise to the position of High Lord spoke volumes about his ability and contributions to the Chaos Legion. In the legion, no matter how low one’s status, ability could elevate them to high office.

Beside High Lord Arkadia sat another High Lord named Hilla. She wasn’t an Abyssal Ghost or Grey Orc but hailed from the Endless Inferno—the place where the Dark Lord Agamemnon was sealed.

Ten years ago, Old Snake Man had tried to break Agamemnon’s seal again but failed. Agamemnon wasn’t freed, but Hilla managed to escape.

To Hilla, everything was mysterious and unknown. With the backing of the Endless Inferno identity and her claim to be Agamemnon’s daughter, she became a High Lord.

However, her position held little real power, mainly out of respect for Agamemnon, since Hilla might indeed be his daughter.

“Bai Ye, my father said you’re his most trusted subordinate?”

Hilla’s appearance was nearly identical to a human’s, but her neck, cheeks, and the backs of her hands bore many black patterns.

“Hilla, don’t provoke Mr. White Night. He’ll kill you.”

High Lord Arkadia spoke. His attitude was always somewhat ambiguous—seemingly supporting Su Xiao, yet unwilling to commit many Orc troops.

“How could that be? Seeing Bai Ye last night, I knew he was one of us.”

“I’m not joking. Five High Lords have died by his hand.”

High Lord Arkadia lowered his gaze. In truth, he was worried that if negotiations failed today, Su Xiao would draw his blade and cut him down. Arkadia knew that the man opposite him was very capable of doing so.
