Chapter 6: Chaos Battle
The sky was nearly obscured by countless φ marks. Su Xiao had no intention of attacking the hive for now. To deal with that hive, he would need to wait at least a few days, until the number of contractors in the Madwood Forest dropped below 50, before considering such an action.
[Tip: The first batch of supplies will be dropped in 30 minutes. Location: 47 kilometers east.]
Su Xiao sat up from within the tree hollow. The first batch of supplies was coming. Each drop contained 5 to 7 supply crates, and he needed to secure at least one.
His priority was the white supply crates, which contained eighth-rank recovery items, eighth-rank props, or one-time scrolls. The reason was that eighth-rank props or one-time scrolls possessed extremely formidable power, potentially even influencing the outcome of a battle.
As for the green supply crates, while Soul Crystals, Holy Spirit-rank equipment, and gems were valuable, these items had a low likelihood of directly enhancing combat strength.
Running through the underbrush, Su Xiao glanced at the compass in his hand. After confirming the correct direction, he increased his speed once more.
Over twenty minutes later, Su Xiao exited the Tiger Wasp Zone and reached the edge of the Water Source Zone. Here, the trees were much sparser, and a lake appeared ahead.
Beside the lake was a large expanse of wasteland. Due to frequent trampling by large animals, the weeds on this open ground were short, offering a clear view.
A dozen figures emerged from the diagonal opposite side. These dozen or so individuals stopped at the lakeshore. Their attire was quite similar, and on their faces, necks, or the backs of their hands were messy black barcodes. These were contractors from Death Paradise. Their gazes all turned toward Su Xiao.
"Don't strike. That blood aura—it's a contractor from Reincarnation Paradise."
"Most likely."
"If he also goes for the white crate?"
"Kill."
The dozen or so Death Paradise contractors murmured among themselves. At that moment, a sound of air being torn came from above.
Boom!
It was like a heavy tank landing. A man over three meters tall, clad in kinetic armor, crashed to the ground. His kinetic armor was iron-black and possessed biological characteristics.
The tank-man stood up from the ground. He drew a broadsword as wide as a palm, at least one and a half meters long. He held the broadsword in his right hand, while on his left forearm was a living heavy cannon. Both weapons had conduits connecting to his arms.
Zzzt~
Wire threads stretched out, and strands of metal wire outlined in midair. A barefoot woman stood on tiptoe on the metal wires. Two slender arm blades extended from her sleeves.
"Everyone's here. Reincarnation's Gourmet and White Night, Apocalypse's Living Tank, Holy Light's Woodland Harpy, and Death's Gask. A clash of titans."
A little boy wearing a peaked cap emerged from the dense forest. A dozen more figures remained hidden within the woods, not revealing themselves.
On the lakeside clearing, Su Xiao surveyed the few people in the distance. He didn't need to worry about Gourmet nearby; for now, they wouldn't be hostile to each other.
Apocalypse Paradise's tank-man was troublesome. His strength was close to Gourmet's. As for the female contractor standing on the metal wires, Woodland Harpy, she was on par with Tank-man and Gourmet in strength, though her aura was slightly weaker.
As for Death Paradise's Gask, he was likely lurking in the lake. His aura was no longer related to that of a human.
No one made the first move, because the supply crates hadn't been dropped yet. The moment the crates appeared would be the time to start fighting.
"Big shot from Reincarnation, I mean no harm. As a survivor, I have no right to bear ill intentions either."
The little boy in the peaked cap walked toward Su Xiao, his hands raised and his expression serious.
"Call me Detective. Little Detective works too. Compared to killing me for one kill slot, the information I provide is more useful."
Clang.
Su Xiao drew the Dragon-Slaying Flash from his waist. The little detective's expression stiffened. He felt he had bet wrong and would now have to enter escape mode.
"Of the contractors I see, over 70%, I can identify their identities, affiliated Paradise, and ability tendencies. Also, regarding this Madwood Forest, I'm quite familiar with it."
The little detective stopped a dozen meters away, still keeping his hands raised.
"..."
"I only accept Soul Coins. Information is a necessary component of victory. This is my communicator. Please don't try to capture me alive; it would waste a lot of your time. Pain would make me break down, and then I'd go stupid. A stupid me has no value."
The little detective placed a communicator on the ground, slowly backed away, and soon disappeared into the dense forest.
"Everyone, the supplies are here!"
A loud shout came from above. Spatial fluctuations appeared, and a series of air explosions rang out, rippling through the spatial distortions.
Boom, boom, boom...
Five metal pillars, nearly three meters long, drove into the ground, scattered across the lakeside clearing. Each pillar was almost a meter thick.
With a hiss, steam sprayed from the metal. The five scattered pillars all opened, revealing the supply crates inside. Two crates were gleaming white, and three were dark green.
A blast of air dispersed. The tank-man broke through a sonic boom, charging straight for a white supply crate.
"Left is mine, right is yours."
Gourmet, not far away, spoke up. He meant that the white crate on the left belonged to him, and the one on the right belonged to Su Xiao, to avoid internal conflict.
With a splash, a large amount of lake water sprayed up. A gray-white blur rushed toward the white crate on the left, accompanied by Holy Light Paradise's Woodland Harpy.
In an instant, the tank-man reached the white crate on the right. He slammed on the brakes, sending mud and grass clippings flying.
"Get lost!"
The tank-man roared. White light surged from the bio-cannon on his left arm.
Thump~
A shockwave spread. Baha, who had used spatial ability to reach the vicinity of the white crate, was knocked back. A large hand wrapped in armor grabbed the crate, seemingly trying to store it directly into his storage space, but failed. The tank-man succeeded, securing a white supply crate.
Clang.
A blade of light slashed in. The tank-man raised his broadsword to block.
With a clang, the two blades clashed. The biological armor on the tank-man surged, and his strength instantly spiked.
A shockwave spread. Su Xiao felt a tremendous force coming from his blade, but he quickly stabilized his stance, lowering his center of gravity. He successfully parried, and the force began to rebound.
Bang.
Su Xiao pushed the tank-man back. In terms of strength attribute, the other party was higher than him.
The tank-man took a large step back, disbelief in his eyes, but his movements were anything but slow. The bio-cannon on his left forearm was already aimed at Su Xiao.
With a roar, a ball of sickly green energy blasted past Su Xiao, hitting a distant tree. The trunk was instantly corroded into slag, and a row of dozens of meters tall trees slowly toppled.
By then, Su Xiao had already leaped sideways. The moment he landed, a broadsword slashed at him.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Sparks flew. Amid the fierce slashing, the tank-man was surprised to find that, even though his strength was greater, he couldn't push his enemy back.
With a screech, Su Xiao's Dragon-Slaying Flash flicked up. While creating a flourish of the blade, he deflected the tank-man's broadsword, causing the tank-man to momentarily lose his balance. In the tank-man's past battles, this was a minor issue.
Bang!!
Su Xiao's straight kick was so fast it left an afterimage, striking the tank-man in the abdomen. The tank-man immediately dropped to one knee, vomiting blood with a "wah" sound. The biological armor on his abdomen cracked extensively, and his internal organs felt as if they were about to shatter.
With a swish, the long blade pierced through the tank-man's head. Su Xiao flipped his body, sending the tank-man flying, and snatched the supply crate from his left hand.
After being thrown, the tank-man rolled several times on the ground before stopping. But he shook his head and stood up, his survivability incredibly strong.
"Damn! A technique-type. How the hell am I supposed to fight this?"
The tank-man didn't even look at Su Xiao again. He strode toward a distant green supply crate. He had no masochistic tendencies, so he didn't want to continue fighting Su Xiao. The tank-man knew that when strength was comparable, due to his relatively cumbersome fighting style, a technique-type was basically his worst nightmare. There was simply no way to fight.
