Chapter 53: The Sisters Who Devour Gods
Within the Sand Flame Territory, Su Xiao sat on the back of a black dragon, the beast cavalry below galloping straight toward Sand Capital.
On the dragon's back, Su Xiao looked at a ring in his hand that had already turned red. This item was called the [Pernier Ring]. Since early this morning, the ring had been heating up, and now it had gone from warm to somewhat scalding.
"Descendants of the Pernier family."
Su Xiao stored the [Pernier Ring] into his storage space. He had still been a step too late. To ambush and kill Feishi, he hadn't been able to return to Sand Capital in time. Someone within Sand Capital had likely already made a move—and won.
Although he hadn't been able to rush back to Sand Capital immediately, Su Xiao had 220,000 beast cavalry under his command. If the situation in Sand Capital had deteriorated beyond control, he would simply fight his way in.
Unless absolutely necessary, Su Xiao wouldn't do that. Sand Capital was the capital of the Sand Flame Kingdom. Sending beast cavalry to attack it would result in very low morale among the soldiers, and some officers loyal to the Sand Flame Kingdom might even disobey orders.
Everything would have to be assessed after returning to Sand Capital. Regardless, he needed to have his beast cavalry hold back the defenders inside Sand Capital. Su Xiao had just used a human wave tactic to kill Feishi; he certainly wouldn't fall into the same kind of trap himself.
The army marched swiftly, crossing two deserts and a large field of cacti before Sand Capital appeared ahead.
Bubu Wang took the lead, sneaking into Sand Capital first. Su Xiao ordered the entire army to camp outside the city on the northern side of Sand Capital.
The current deputy commander, Wen Ai You'er, was a trusted subordinate Su Xiao had promoted along the way. With her around, she could mobilize these 220,000 beast cavalry at a critical moment.
The northern gate of Sand Capital swung wide open, and a group of kingdom officials came out from within to welcome him. The city's defenders stood in two rows on either side of the gate, almost as if they were holding a welcome ceremony. Having just returned from attacking the Peru Kingdom, Su Xiao receiving such treatment was normal.
Standing on the black dragon's back, Su Xiao ignored the welcoming kingdom officials. He was waiting for the intelligence Bubu Wang would relay back.
If he wasn't mistaken, the winners of this struggle in Sand Capital were the two sisters: Queen Camilla and Minister of State Carolas.
Initially, Su Xiao hadn't noticed anything unusual about these two sisters. Even after invading Peru and meeting the Peru King, he hadn't guessed their plan—not until the neutral god, the God of Abundant Life, was devoured.
Su Xiao had previously obtained several pieces of information from Layton Redbeard, which were:
