Chapter 62: A Single Stab Pierces Through
Fine sand was blown by the wind. Looking down at the Baro Colosseum from above, it was a relatively archaic structure, circular in overall form, with tiered ring-shaped spectator stands on the outer ring and a yellow sand arena at the center.
The outer walls of the colosseum were made of rock, uniformly yellowish-brown in color. The subtle traces of weathering on the stone had not been repaired, giving the Baro Colosseum a sense of grandeur precipitated by time.
The spectator stands inside the colosseum were made entirely of uniform black wood. Apart from these most basic facilities, high-tech products were used for the details. However, to maintain the overall style of the Baro Colosseum, most of the tech products were hidden in the shadows, with only the screen above the yellow sand arena left unadorned.
This screen represented that the Baro Colosseum was not stagnant or inflexible, while the Sword of Baro and the Shield of the Gods represented the preservation of tradition.
Details determine success or failure. The attention to detail allowed the Baro Colosseum to overpower the larger Void Colosseum.
Spectators could bring high-tech products; the Baro Colosseum did not prohibit them. These high-tech items would not remain in the Baro Colosseum permanently, so they had no impact on the overall style here.
"Contestant 16, Contestant 50, enter the arena. Hark has to add one more thing—this is a duel between a Spellcaster and a Law Destroyer."
Hark's shout was still passionate, but he dared not say much. The spectator stands were filled with many Spellcasters, all supporters of Contestant 50, Dilin. As for the Law Destroyers, neither the Demon Race nor the Bana Dwarf Clan were easy to provoke. Among the three parties, offending any one of them would be unbearable for Hark.
A small airship ascended. It was like an iron bird spreading its wings. Blue flames shot from the four engines beneath the cabin, keeping the airship stationary above the yellow sand arena.
The rear hatch of the airship opened. Lord Rat, his body wrapped entirely in bandages, walked out. He sat down at the edge of the rear hatch, a bottle of wine in his hand.
Lord Rat bit off the cork, tilted his head back, and gulped down several large mouthfuls of wine.
"Ahh!"
Lord Rat laughed heartily.
In the spectator stands, Mage Sage Seraphilia, dressed in a white robe and wearing a hood, glanced at the Violent Rat and then ignored him.
Dilin's figure was the first to catch Seraphilia's eye. She was very satisfied with this disciple.
On the yellow sand arena, Dilin walked forward step by step. Her gaze was firm. At her waist hung a rapier. Unlike conventional rapiers, the hilt of this rapier was longer, and the lower part of the blade was about six centimeters wide, tapering upward until the tip was only a finger's width wide, extremely sharp.
Originally, Dilin did not carry any weapons. But after her defeat in the last fight with Su Xiao, she immediately obtained a physical weapon. Using her element, the Li element, to construct a weapon for close combat against Su Xiao was simply suicide.
Dilin took a deep breath. The seven earrings on her right ear emitted a faint glow. Light red blood vessels emerged on the skin near her right ear, some almost spreading to her cheek.
"Earth vein, light, release, thought element, resonance..."
Dilin's voice was very low but carried an ethereal quality.
Just as Dilin was making her final preparations before the battle, Su Xiao had already walked out of the contestant passage. He had no abilities to enhance.
When Su Xiao was thirty meters away from Dilin, a wisp of yellow sand beneath his feet rose up, forming a ring three meters in diameter.
On the screen above the yellow sand arena, a countdown began. The battle would start in ten seconds.
The spectator stands fell silent. Almost all the spectators held their breath. They had only heard of battles between Law Destroyers and Spellcasters but had never witnessed one.
As Seraphilia's disciple, Dilin was naturally quite famous in the Void. Coupled with the halo of being a top figure among the younger generation, all spectators felt that the two below were evenly matched and would surely fight a bitter battle.
When the countdown was only three seconds, Su Xiao drew the Dragon-Slaying Flash from his waist. Pale blue electric arcs surged along the long blade.
Seeing these pale blue electric arcs, several old Spellcasters in the spectator stands twitched their cheeks. It wasn't fear; it was an instinctive reaction. They had fought Law Destroyers before and knew that once this energy invaded the magic circuits in the body, it would rush straight to the brain. The feeling was, to say the least, "refreshing."
Dong~
A loud clang came from above. A two-handed greatsword struck a shield, and then both dissipated. The battle had begun.
The fine sand swirling around Su Xiao fell. His body slightly lowered, he swung his blade in a feint slash.
*Blade Path: Azure Demon.*
A cyan-blue slash cut through the air, speeding toward Dilin at an incredible pace.
While slashing out the Azure Demon, Su Xiao stamped his foot on the ground and charged straight forward. He was currently thirty meters away from Dilin. Using Dragon Shadow Flash to penetrate space directly wouldn't be enough to cover that distance.
The moment Su Xiao charged, yellow sand sprayed from beneath his feet. He had already adapted to the soft feel of stepping on sand. Having fought on various terrains frequently, this did not affect his forward speed.
Clang!
The Azure Demon slashed in front of Dilin. Her pupils slightly contracted. The blade aura the enemy had slashed was too fast. Thirty meters, and it was already before her in an instant.
Dilin shifted her center of gravity to her right foot. By shifting her weight, she tilted her entire body to the right.
With a whoosh, the Azure Demon slashed past Dilin, the wind pressure lifting her short hair.
Bang!
A sonic boom came from ahead. Dilin's perception converged. She immediately sensed Su Xiao lunging at her in a forward-leaping thrust, unstoppable.
Golden Li element gathered in front of Dilin, forming a hexagonal diamond-shaped shield. This shield was somewhat like a turtle shell. Though not aesthetically pleasing, its mechanical principles were scientific enough.
With a crack, the long blade pierced through the Li element shield. Dilin was not surprised by this. She leaped backward repeatedly, light and agile.
In the spectator stands, seeing Su Xiao stab through the Li element shield with one slash, Seraphilia's thin lips parted slightly, a clear look of shock on her face. The Li element she had developed... had been pierced through by a Law Destroyer with a single slash.
This single slash not only pierced through Seraphilia's years of research but also pierced through many of her plans. The ability she had painstakingly developed to counter Law Destroyers had been pierced through in just one exchange.
On the yellow sand arena, the long blade pierced the Li element shield. The entire shield exploded. Su Xiao landed along with large pieces of Li element fragments.
The moment his feet touched the sandy ground, a wind-breaking sound came from ahead. Su Xiao swung his blade forward.
Clang! A spiral sword was shattered, exploding into large golden fragments.
A dozen meters away, Dilin held a longbow made of Li element. The cord at her waist had actually been the bowstring, now tied to the Li element bow.
Dilin had transformed into an archer. She hadn't forgotten being beaten into a state of autism in close combat with Su Xiao last time. Therefore, she decided not to engage in close combat with Su Xiao.
Unfortunately, ideals were full, but reality was cruel.
