Chapter 12: All Together
Aside from Anna, who stood silently before the door, there were six participants in the room. Two of them Su Xiao recognized: Shangyue, a participant from the previous round, and Nita from the Yinyu Clan.
This was clearly no coincidence. Without a doubt, the Twins would also come to the Death House, though they had likely used some authority to avoid being grouped with Su Xiao again.
Besides Shangyue and Nita, there was the female spellcaster. The remaining two were a white-haired, short-haired demon with a sawed-off horn, and an old man.
This demon was the stubborn, iron-headed fool who had spoken earlier. Noticing Su Xiao's gaze, the demon raised his chin toward Su Xiao. The relationship between demons and Law Destroyers needed no concealment; it was common knowledge.
As for the last old man, he was resting with his eyes closed. He was a pioneer from Sanctuary Paradise, his aura strange, twisted, yet powerful.
Su Xiao tossed a Soul Crystal Fragment into his mouth and chewed slowly. Seeing this, Shangyue, sitting nearby, slightly turned away.
On Twilight Island, the scene of being dragged by her hair by Su Xiao was unforgettable. Unfortunately, fate had not favored her; she was grouped with Su Xiao again in the second round, and Shangyue's psychological shadow area gradually expanded.
As for Nita from the Yinyu Clan, she acted as if she didn't know Su Xiao, because she noticed that Shangyue was still alive. For some reason, fear grew in her heart; she seemed to have discovered something terrible.
"Are we just sitting here?"
The demon who spoke was none other than the iron-headed fool, Mond, who had been beaten by his own father into sitting in a wheelchair for a month.
Leaving aside other matters, just from his conversation with the Pain Queen, Anna, one could judge the extent of his thick-headedness.
"You can stand if you want."
Dilin's legs were propped up on the round table, lacking any ladylike decorum, yet it felt natural, not forced.
"Do you believe that the two of us will join forces to kill you first?"
Mond's eyes seemed to have magma burning within them as he directly retorted.
"I do."
Dilin answered almost without thinking.
"But, you know, I've never been dragged by my hair and beaten."
"!"
Mond's eyes widened. Insults churned in his chest, but after holding back for a while, he found that his mental storage of offensive words was surprisingly lacking.
Mond looked to Su Xiao for help. Su Xiao didn't speak; this wasn't his forte—it was Baha's specialty.
"Everyone, allow me to introduce the rules of the game."
The Pain Queen, Anna, spoke. At least so far, Anna was a highly present observer. She didn't use her status as the owner of the Death House to assert her position; she was absolutely powerful yet an impartial observer.
"The rules are simple. After the Wheel of Fate determines your game sequence, you can use any method to reach the 'Banquet Hall.' Once there, the death game truly begins. None of you entered the Death House voluntarily, so consider this experience a trial. You can only come here once in your lifetime."
As soon as the Pain Queen, Anna, finished speaking, the center of the round table rose, revealing a disk with an arrow.
Click-clack...
The disk spun, faster and faster, until finally, the pointer stopped on the old man.
Without a word, the old man stood up, walked past the Pain Queen, Anna, pushed open the wooden door, and left the room.
Just as the disk on the table began to spin again, a loud crash came from outside the room, shaking the entire room.
Thud!
Half a body flew in from outside the door, rolled a few times on the ground, and lay face down, blood spreading beneath the half-corpse.
"Cough, cough~"
The old man coughed up specks of blood, then his head lolled to the side. He was dead.
"Th-this, th-this, th-this..."
Nita couldn't even speak properly, turning into a broken record. She could sense that this old man, with his strength, could kill her with one hand.
Nita's plan was to be eliminated in the first round, but she had advanced smoothly because, out of nearly a hundred participants in the first round, only five survived. She was forced to advance. She didn't want to come to the Death House, but there was no other way.
Click~
The pointer stopped on Mond. Mond stood up calmly. To say he wasn't panicked at all would be a lie, but he represented the demon race. Even if he was a bit uneasy inside, he couldn't show it.
Just a few seconds after Mond walked out of the wooden house, another roar came from outside.
Bang!
Mond flew back through the door, crashed into the wooden wall opposite, and fell to the ground.
"That hurt a bit."
Mond wiped the blood from his face, then walked back outside. After another roar, the sounds subsided.
Click~
The disk, as if urging death, stopped. This time, it pointed to Shangyue. Shangyue also stood up calmly and walked toward the door. But as soon as she stepped out of the room, her body trembled.
This time, there was no sound from outside.
Click~
The disk stopped for the fourth time, pointing to Nita from the Yinyu Clan. She took a few deep breaths, then slowly approached the door. After peeking outside for a moment, she quickly ran into the darkness. Still, no sound.
Now, only Su Xiao and the female spellcaster, Dilin, remained in the room. The arrow on the disk finally pointed to Dilin.
"Lucky me."
Dilin stretched lazily, then stood up and walked out of the room. Still, no sound. Su Xiao suspected that the thing outside had been lured away by that demon.
The disk on the table didn't continue spinning; instead, it retracted back into the round table.
This wasn't due to Su Xiao's luck, but because of an item he was wearing. Having enough equipment and resources was also a manifestation of strength.
