# Chapter 2: Surprise
Su Xiao roughly understood the information about the Moon God World. There were three great empires here—Dawn Empire, Ximoro Empire, and Rodan Empire. Aside from these three empires, all other small nations were vassal states.
Strangely enough, these three empires, which frequently waged war against each other, actually worshipped the same deity—the Moon God.
Even more peculiar was that the image of the Moon God passed down in each empire was completely different. The Dawn Empire depicted a goddess, the Ximoro Empire portrayed the Moon God as genderless, and the Rodan Empire depicted a muscular male.
Because of this, all three empires considered the others to be idiots and heretics. They believed their own faith was orthodox, while everything else was fabricated nonsense.
What made it even more interesting was that when believers from the three empires prayed, they could more or less sense the presence of the Moon God. If they were devout enough, they could even receive gifts from the Moon God. These people were called Moon Apostles, essentially Transcendents.
Heaven knows what the "Moon God" really was. When believers in the Dawn Empire prayed, they said: "My goddess, please grant me your protection."
But over in the Ximoro Empire, it became: "Supreme genderless deity, thank you for the food you have bestowed."
And in the Rodan Empire, it was even more exaggerated. The style abruptly changed, and the Moon God went directly from a goddess to a male deity.
If the Moon God had emotions like joy or anger, all three empires might have been destroyed by Him. Maybe one would have been spared?
Su Xiao didn't care about the Moon God's image right now, nor did he care which of the three empires was truly idiotic. What he wanted to know was how to leave this prison located deep underground.
Because Su Xiao's Reincarnation Paradise mark rank was already quite high, and Reincarnation Paradise had also issued a hunt mission, the combination of these two factors gave him a fairly high initial status within the Moon God World.
Although he was currently a prisoner, his original identity was the commander of the Ninth Unit. The Ninth Unit generally didn't fight on the front lines. Its members numbered only a few thousand, and during wartime, they were responsible for gathering intelligence, assassinating key enemy personnel, and so on—essentially a special forces plus assassination unit.
In common terms, Su Xiao was originally the leader of special agents and legalized killers. Now, the Ninth Unit no longer existed, for many reasons.
For example, the three great empires had entered a ceasefire period. The Ninth Unit had played a major role during wartime, so they had more privileges.
Now that peace was approaching, those legalized killers and special agents who had developed mental problems from all the killing naturally had to be dealt with or sent to remote areas, keeping them away from the population. Once they went mad, it wouldn't just be a matter of a few commoners dying.
They were all experts in assassination, steam explosion, counter-tracking, and criminology. After fighting for over a decade, every single one of them was an executioner and a latent murder maniac. Killing a person was as easy and normal as killing a chicken.
If ordinary people didn't provoke them, things were fine. But if they were slightly offended, they might lose their lives in the next moment.
Too many privileges, combined with the dangerous nature of the Ninth Unit, led the Dawn Empire to start dealing with this unit as soon as the war stopped. The current Ninth Unit was no different from being disbanded.
The Dawn Empire actually didn't want to do this, but they had no choice. A female officer had only gone to the Ninth Unit to deliver a message. Having never been to the front lines, she returned depressed because what she saw in the Ninth Unit somewhat overturned her worldview, leaving a lifelong shadow on her not-so-fragile heart.
Because of this, the three major figures of the Dawn Empire—the Old Holy King, the Moon Goddess, and the Eagle Marquis—joined forces to uproot the Ninth Unit.
As for Su Xiao, the commander of the Ninth Unit, because his military achievements were too numerous, he could only be temporarily imprisoned.
"Not a bad identity. Has status, but unfortunately no real power anymore."
Su Xiao sat inside the nearly fully enclosed cell. Starting off in jail was something he was somewhat used to. After thinking for a moment, he chose to first ask about the locations of Bubu Wang, Amu, Beini, and Baha.
Beini wasn't sure where she was. Her description was that she was in a tavern where people were drinking and celebrating wildly.
Bubu Wang and Baha were within the territory of the Dawn Empire. As for Amu, it was swimming in the sea. Amu was unlucky—it had been teleported into the ocean and couldn't swim back for now. Its exact words were that the sea had no visible shore. Su Xiao wasn't in a hurry either. He just let Amu slowly swim, and if it got tired, it could freeze a chunk of ice and rest on top.
Inside the cell, Su Xiao took out the [Soul Walker] short blade from his storage space. Without any visible movement, the shackles on his wrists clattered onto the metal bed.
Su Xiao flexed his wrists and stood before the nearly meter-thick metal door.
Meanwhile, above the secret prison, on the surface.
This was a three-story European-style building. The outer walls showed signs of weathering. There were a few small stalls by the street, and commoners in linen clothes walked on the stone-paved road. Because it had just rained, the street was full of muddy footprints.
On the surface, this was a custom clothing store. In reality, it was official government property, its main purpose being to conceal the secret prison underground.
The secret prison held three people in total:
Face-Peeler·Aaron Lu, a Transcendent. His ability was to peel off someone's face and disguise himself as that person. Crimes: treason, murder. He had repeatedly impersonated officials from the Dawn Empire and Ximoro Empire, causing direct or indirect economic losses of up to 2.68 billion gold pounds (1 gold pound ≈ 9.7~10.2 RMB).
T17.2229·Filomina (formerly a military serial number), a Transcendent, steam bomb expert. She had directly or indirectly caused 15,680 deaths. Crimes: treason, multiple murder. Former Ninth Unit Commander's adjutant, female.
