Su Xiao dismissed the notification. He had just killed a Rear Admiral but didn't receive any World Source, or rather, it would be calculated uniformly after the plot event concluded.
As for the merits from killing a Rear Admiral-level Marine, it was only 56 points. Keep in mind, that was a Marine Rear Admiral, not some small fry. It seemed like a decent amount, equivalent to about one-third of a Soul Crystal (Complete), but that wasn't actually the case.
Soul Crystals (Complete, Large, Medium, Small) could all be exchanged in the War Store, and the exchange price was very low. This was a special reward exchange for the Paramount War, allowing contractors who weren't very strong but risked participating in the war to also gain benefits.
Su Xiao could only exchange for Soul Crystals (Complete); the other three grades of Soul Crystals were locked, giving those weaker contractors a chance to exchange for them.
The Paramount War battlefield was very dangerous. The reason Su Xiao hadn't shown himself was to avoid being targeted by two or more Admiral-level combatants. If that situation arose, he would very likely die.
Just as Su Xiao was considering when to join the battle, a rumbling sound of water came from afar. It was the tsunami Whitebeard had triggered earlier.
Two massive waves surged from the left and right towards the port, about to crash onto it. But with Aokiji present, that was simply impossible.
"Ice Age."
Aokiji's voice came from above. The dozens-of-meters-high waves on both sides of the port were frozen, forming two inversely sloping ice walls, sealing off the port on both sides.
"It seems... it's time."
Su Xiao stood up from the deck, walked to the ship's railing, and looked into the distance towards the execution platform. Soon, he saw Ace kneeling on it.
"Soul Severing Shadow Stone, you can't die yet. Even if you only have one breath left, you have to leave Marine Headquarters before you die."
The 'Soul Severing Shadow Stone' Su Xiao referred to was Ace. He had no friendship with Ace whatsoever; saving him was solely to complete the mission. Therefore, the 'scope' of the rescue was broad. If it were Ace's teammate, they would have to consider Ace's feelings and thoughts while rescuing him. Su Xiao didn't need to worry about that at all. If Ace didn't cooperate, he would beat him until he lost the ability to move and then drag him away. If that didn't work, one shot of sedative would keep him quiet.
However, a difficult problem lay before Su Xiao. Although Ace appeared calm and steady, he was actually a master of courting death.
