Chapter 44: Trembling with Rage
Inside the Legion Commander's office at the Execution Agency headquarters.
Su Xiao had his feet propped up on the desk, leaning back in his chair to rest. With his injuries, the Execution Agency headquarters was the safest place to be.
"Woof~"
Bubu Wang, lying on the sofa, barked once, meaning he was hungry and asking Su Xiao what he wanted to eat so he could bring it back.
Just as Bubu Wang reached the office door, it was slammed open with a bang. Harold walked in with a grim expression, followed by Lady Nancy and a one-eyed officer. Bringing up the rear were two black-armored guards, who gave Su Xiao a dangerous feeling. As the monarch's guards, their combat prowess was naturally high; otherwise, assassins would have long since targeted Harold.
In the past, when something came up, Harold would summon Su Xiao. But this time, he came personally, without any notice.
Lady Nancy, walking behind, blinked. Her expression clearly showed she had just been chewed out. As for the one-eyed officer walking beside her, Su Xiao had met him once before—this was Gaskell, the Minister of the Seventh Division.
Gaskell was a big shot in the empire, but now he had his head slightly lowered, looking like he had just lost his father.
Harold sat down across from the desk, picked up the teacup on the table, and without caring whose cup it was, downed it in one gulp, showing none of his usual calm composure.
Su Xiao noticed that Harold's hands were trembling, uncontrollably trembling. Clearly, he was shaking with rage.
"How's your side going?"
With no outsiders in the room, Harold directly asked about the eye chambers.
"Found five. The remaining eleven are just a matter of time."
"Have you confirmed the total number of eye chambers?"
Harold's expression softened a bit.
"Confirmed. Sixteen in total."
"Mm, good work."
"..."
Silence. A dead silence. After a moment, Harold spoke in a low voice: "Have you heard about what happened at the cemetery?"
"Cemetery?"
Su Xiao looked at Harold with confusion. Wasn't he dealing with the councilors? Then, he seemed to think of something.
"I've been busy searching for the eye chambers lately. I haven't paid much attention to anything unrelated to the Ghost Ring."
"I see."
Harold picked up the teacup again. Bonnie, who was standing at attention by the desk, immediately stepped forward to pour tea. Smart as she was, she could tell that Harold was like a powder keg right now.
"Something happened at the cemetery. My ancestor's grave was..."
Harold's hands trembled even more violently. Su Xiao immediately went into actor mode. Without Harold even needing to say it, he could vaguely guess what had happened. Earlier, he had provided the Three Brothers of National Football with information about Hugh Los Nalor, and Hugh Los Nalor was Harold's ancestor.
Clearly, the three had gone grave-robbing and been caught. But what Su Xiao couldn't figure out was why Harold had come to him about this. As for Lady Nancy, she had nothing to do with this at all. The only unlucky one should have been Minister Gaskell.
"You..."
Harold looked Su Xiao up and down. Su Xiao's expression remained normal.
"Bonnie, help me up. I've been sleeping and my legs are numb."
"?"
Bonnie was a bit confused but still stepped forward to help Su Xiao sit up straight. Seeing this, Harold narrowed his eyes slightly.
"Nancy, Gaskell, I'll deal with you two later."
Lady Nancy and Gaskell turned and left the office. As soon as she turned around, Lady Nancy gritted her teeth in frustration. She was furious—she hadn't done anything, but after being summoned by Harold, she got a harsh scolding right off the bat.
"Bonnie, you leave too."
Su Xiao rubbed his legs. With his physique, having numb legs from sitting was impossible.
When everyone was out, Harold spoke in a low voice:
"You're injured? Badly?"
"Very badly."
Su Xiao steadied his breathing. Just sitting up straight had caused a dull pain in his lower abdomen. As for asking Bonnie to help him sit up, it was because when Su Xiao had met Harold before, after Harold was assassinated and lying in bed, he had also asked that red-haired man to help him sit up. Today, Su Xiao's expression and movements were exactly the same as Harold's that day, so Harold immediately figured out what was going on.
"Then the eye chambers?"
Harold's expression turned grim. The situation in Zul City was already bad enough. There were three people who couldn't fall: Su Xiao (Legion Commander), Harold (Monarch), and Gaskell (Minister). If any one of them fell, who knew how many wild Ghost organizations would pop up.
"No problem. At least not before I die."
Su Xiao lit a cigarette. They were all in the same boat now. He wasn't afraid of Harold finding anything out. Even if Harold wanted to settle scores later, Su Xiao would have already returned to Reincarnation Paradise by then.
"If your injuries stabilize, go to the cemetery as soon as possible. I'll send some special medicine over later. You can't die now."
Harold didn't say anything else and got up to leave.
Su Xiao stood by the window, watching the dozen or so people gradually walking away through the courtyard below. He still couldn't figure out what the Three Brothers of National Football had done.
"Bubu, let's go. To the cemetery."
"Woo~"
Bubu Wang protested silently. He was very hungry, but he still followed Su Xiao out of the office, padding along behind him.
Su Xiao didn't bring the three Gers. They just needed to keep searching for the eye chambers. When Su Xiao arrived at the Tranquil Cemetery, he found it had been heavily cordoned off by the Seventh Division.
After passing through three checkpoints, Su Xiao entered the cemetery. As soon as he arrived, he saw a huge tombstone stuck upside down in the ground, with a large patch of wet soil nearby.
Seeing this, Su Xiao couldn't help but wonder if those three idiots from the National Football team had blown up Hugh Los Nalor's tomb. If that was really the case, after they were captured, he would do his best to secure the right to interrogate them. Not to protect the three, but to avoid being implicated himself—after all, he was the one who provided the information.
Walking over to a grave pit, Su Xiao crouched down. This time, he confirmed that the National Football team hadn't blown up Hugh Los Nalor's grave. Instead, they had encountered an enemy here.
Several white-green energy spears were stuck in the grave pit, slowly dissipating. Seeing these, Su Xiao immediately thought of Sin. This made him even more confused. Why would Sin appear here? Had both sides come to rob the grave and coincidentally run into each other? Or was Sin hiding here and got dug up by the National Football team?
Crouching by the grave pit, Su Xiao opened the Primordial World contact platform. This was the only way he could reach the National Football team. They had only exchanged information; there was no way they would leave personal contact information.
On the Primordial World contact platform.
White Night (Leader of the Dawn Adventure Group): "If you don't want to be wanted city-wide, report to the Execution Agency headquarters by 1 PM."
Swallow Fish (Rogue Cultivator): "Oh ho, Commander White Night finally shows his face."
Gulu (Phantom Troupe): "Why are you here too? And those three idiots. What bad luck. Can't I just enjoy my 'single-player' game in peace?"
National Football Boss (Leader of the Dark Forces Adventure Group): "Brother White Night, long time no see."
...
Seeing National Football Boss's reply, Su Xiao closed the Primordial World contact platform, turned around, and walked out of the cemetery.
