Chapter 9: Little Clever One
Inside the room on the second floor of the small building, sunlight streamed in through the window. A little girl with twin blonde ponytails was lying on the office desk, her steamed-bun-like little face pressed tightly against the surface, with a puddle of drool beside her mouth.
"Something terrible has happened!"
With a bang, the door was slammed open, startling the little girl with twin blonde ponytails into sitting up. Another bang followed as her knee hit the underside of the wooden table—a very sour and satisfying pain.
"Ouch!!"
The blonde little girl's expression was quite a sight, a mix of shock, pain, and bewilderment all combined.
"Bonnie, you told me before, right? If someone from the Execution Agency comes looking for you, just say you're not here."
The one who burst into the room was a man with gold-rimmed glasses. He appeared refined and gentle, with a somewhat timid demeanor.
"Mm-hmm, just say I'm not here."
Isevi Bonnie was a clever little brat. Though she was a detective, she had absolutely no interest in cases related to ghosts. Even if the rewards for such cases were high, one had to live to spend them.
"Someone from the Execution Agency is here?"
Isevi Bonnie wiped the drool from the corner of her mouth. From her words and actions, no one would guess she was only twelve years old; she could easily pass for twenty.
"They're here."
"Just say I'm not here. Hmm~, the reason is that I've gone to Link City to solve a murder case."
"Uh... this..."
The glasses-wearing man looked troubled.
"Don't be so wishy-washy. Spit it out."
"I... I don't dare."
"Huh?"
Isevi Bonnie was stunned for a moment, then her pupils rapidly contracted as she asked, "Is it an Awakener who's come knocking?"
"It's their boss... Kukulin Bai Ye."
"!!!"
Isevi Bonnie jumped down from her leather chair, turned, and ran toward the window. This clever little one had already guessed the situation was bad—very bad.
"Sir, you can't go in here. This is..."
The obstruction outside the door was utterly useless. The wooden door was pushed open, and the lock on it flew off with a clatter, completely useless.
"They're here~"
Isevi Bonnie wore a bitter little face as she quickly returned behind the office desk, jumped back into her chair, and took a deep breath.
Su Xiao pushed the door open and entered, with Bubu Wang following behind him. Amu stood in front of a servant, who looked like a little chick compared to Amu, trembling there.
"I've heard so much about you, Lord Kukulin, Legion Commander."
Isevi Bonnie jumped down from her leather chair, somewhat laboriously dragged over another chair, and placed it in front of the office desk.
Su Xiao looked at Isevi Bonnie with interest. It was hard to imagine that this little girl with twin blonde ponytails had an IQ of over 170.
"Go brew some tea. The best kind."
Isevi Bonnie sat opposite Su Xiao and gestured for the glasses-wearing man to get drinks and snacks. Although she had once been appreciated by Monarch Harold, that was just appreciation. The person sitting before her now was the ruler of one of the empire's five major violent institutions.
"Lord Kukulin, what instructions do you have for me this time? As a citizen of the empire, I will certainly cooperate fully. Of course, if it involves a commission related to ghosts, you know, I'm just an ordinary little girl of only twelve years old. I believe that, given your status as Legion Commander, you would never make any excessive demands of me. You are my idol."
Isevi Bonnie seemed enthusiastic, but in reality, her brain was running like a quad-core processor at full speed. In her view, the current situation had three possible scenarios.
