Chapter 33: Mist
Checking his remaining mana, he still had over 200 points, enough to sustain this battle.
Yesterday, while guarding the entrance to Zone 3, his innate ability ‘Soul Devourer’ had reached its limit, granting him a total of 100 mana points. So now, his mana pool stood at a full 403 points.
What did 403 mana points mean? Excluding equipment bonuses, it would require 40 points of Intelligence to achieve.
Although Su Xiao had a large mana pool, being a Shadow of Law Destruction was also a mana-hungry profession.
This was the class Reincarnation Paradise had chosen as most suitable for him, not wasting his innate ability. Coupled with his identity as a Hunter, inheriting the Shadow of Law Destruction was only natural.
Temporarily ignoring the feeling of weakness surging within his body, Su Xiao dashed toward Leng Yue.
Leng Yue was already on the verge of death. Su Xiao needed to eliminate this threat first.
But before Su Xiao could take two steps, a hail of bullets and skills forced him back.
“Captain, Captain, are you okay?”
Blood Rose rushed to Leng Yue’s side with reddened eyes. The moment she touched Leng Yue’s body, her hand trembled.
Leng Yue’s body was now trembling slightly, the pain from Azure Steel Shadow still lingering.
Blood Rose hoisted Leng Yue onto her shoulder and quickly ran into the crowd of the Othershore Flower group. The women of Othershore Flower instinctively formed a protective circle around Leng Yue.
“Candy, heal the Captain quickly.”
Candy nodded and consecutively cast several skills on Leng Yue.
An emerald-green light enveloped Leng Yue, clinging to the dozen-centimeter-long wound on her chest.
What neither Candy nor Blood Rose expected was that a pale blue energy suddenly surged from within Leng Yue’s body. This pale blue energy was incredibly fierce, and when it merged with the emerald-green light, the green light actually dissipated.
Candy, refusing to believe it, used two more healing skills, but the result was the same.
“Healing skills… no effect…”
Candy stood frozen in place. Leng Yue was continuously losing blood; within two minutes at most, she would die.
This wasn’t even the worst situation. Not far away, Su Xiao had already raised his blade and charged forward.
The earlier scene of a tiger among sheep repeated itself. Su Xiao charged into the Othershore Flower crowd and swiftly began cutting down its members.
Blood splattered, and screams formed a chorus.
Killing one every ten steps? No, it was killing ten with every step.
In just a few seconds, Su Xiao had carved a bloody path through the Othershore Flower crowd. He was now six meters away from Leng Yue and Blood Rose. Since the battle began, Othershore Flower had lost fifteen members.
Five meters. Othershore Flower had lost twenty members in total.
Four meters. Othershore Flower had lost twenty-seven members in total.
Three meters. Othershore Flower had lost thirty members in total.
After casualties exceeded half, the Othershore Flower members began to show signs of a rout.
“You bastard!”
A female contractor with a ponytail charged desperately at Su Xiao. Su Xiao immediately abandoned the others and met the ponytailed female contractor head-on. She was the Violator within the Othershore Flower Adventure Group.
As the ponytailed female contractor charged forward, black smoke surged from within her body. This black mist gave off an ominous feeling.
Any contractor who touched the black mist immediately had their skin shrivel up. Seeing this, the black mist woman quickly retracted the smoke.
“Leng Yue, thank you for accepting and taking care of a heretic like me. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
The black mist woman could no longer be recognized as human. Her entire body was shrouded in black mist, with only a vague humanoid shape visible. However, her blood-red eyes were especially conspicuous—a pair of demonic vertical pupils.
“What… what kind of creature is this?”
Blood Rose stared blankly at the black mist woman. She had never known there was such a contractor in their group.
“Don’t go…”
Leng Yue murmured weakly from her dying state. Blood Rose nearby didn’t catch it, but the distant black mist woman heard.
“It’s no use. You can’t deal with him.”
The black mist woman shook her head. Though her expression was unclear, Su Xiao felt she was smiling.
“I shouldn’t have joined you. A heretic like me only brings calamity to others. But… being with my sisters was truly happy.”
The black mist woman turned to look at the women of Othershore Flower, her eyes filled with deep attachment.
Suddenly, the black mist woman fixed her gaze on Su Xiao, her eyes burning with undisguised hatred.
“You blood-soaked killers… what did I ever do wrong…”
The black mist woman’s voice cut off mid-sentence, but her mouth could still be seen opening and closing.
“Oh? Interesting. It seems you know something.”
Su Xiao sensed that she might have recognized his identity as a Hunter. He had to eliminate her quickly. Once his Hunter identity was exposed, every future derivative world would be hostile toward him.
The black mist woman’s mouth moved for a long time again, but still no sound came out.
“Damn it. I don’t even have the right to speak anymore.”
The black mist woman stomped her foot, creating a shallow crater in the ground beneath her.
“Nothing you want to say to me, you ‘darling son’ of Reincarnation Paradise?”
The black mist woman sneered at Su Xiao.
“…”
Su Xiao simply stared at her in silence. Some secrets were concealed by Reincarnation Paradise. He was still too weak; knowing too much wasn’t a good thing.
Being weak yet constantly probing the truth—in Su Xiao’s view, that was just a fancy way of courting death.
As for her calling him the ‘darling son’ of Reincarnation Paradise, that was complete nonsense. Hunters bore risks dozens of times greater than ordinary contractors. They had a few privileges within Reincarnation Paradise, but once in a derivative world, they were treated equally.
A mission was given a code, and then they had to search the entire world for it. After finding it, the enemy turned out to be very strong. Was that really the treatment of a ‘darling son’? Not at all.
“What a cold-hearted bastard. That’s normal, though. Ordinary people…”
The black mist woman’s words were cut off again. From her gritted-teeth expression, she was definitely cursing up a storm.
“Forget it. Let’s settle this with life or death.”
With that, the black mist woman charged at Su Xiao. Her speed wasn’t fast, but her steps were unusually heavy. This woman’s Strength attribute must be terrifying.
Su Xiao narrowed his eyes, staring at the black mist woman.
When the black mist woman reached him, she threw a punch at his head. The fist, wrapped in black mist, carried a gust of wind.
Su Xiao tilted his head to dodge the punch, immediately feeling a numbness on the side of his face.
Whoosh!
The incredibly powerful punch wind swept through Su Xiao’s black hair, leaving a bloodstain on his cheek.
If that punch had connected, it would have blown his head off!
Su Xiao sidestepped as a sniper bullet embedded itself in the ground beneath his feet.
His long blade rose, and the edge swept across the black mist woman’s body. There was no sensation of hitting a solid object.
“Hmph.”
The black mist woman grunted in pain, the black mist on her body churning.
“So you can hurt me after all… damn it.”
The black mist woman retreated several steps. Just as Su Xiao was about to pursue, he sensed several bullets incoming.
Bang, bang, bang…
Su Xiao dodged the bullets, leaving traces of blood in his wake.
“I have no choice but to fight for my life.”
The black mist woman hugged her arms in front of her face, and the black mist around her spread outward. The mist twisted and deformed in the air, rapidly approaching Su Xiao.
Su Xiao retreated again, but a small patch of black mist contaminated his shoulder.
Sizzle, sizzle, sizzle.
His skin withered instantly upon contact with the mist, and the withering showed signs of spreading down his entire arm.
He swung his blade, cutting away the piece of flesh on his shoulder. The severed flesh disintegrated into dust in the air.
Su Xiao glanced at the wound on his shoulder. Though he had lost a piece of skin, the underlying muscle wasn’t damaged—just a superficial wound.
The black mist surged, and the black mist woman’s figure reappeared.
It seemed that fully turning into black mist placed a heavy burden on her, as she began to breathe heavily.
“It’s no use after all… damn monster.”
A look of determination flashed in the black mist woman’s vertical pupils.
