Chapter 58: One Against Eight
In Lubei City, on a street covered in cracks.
A woman covered in cuts crawled along the street. Her lower body had been severed, one of her eyes gouged out, and her body was riddled with countless penetrating wounds.
A fair, small foot stepped onto the woman’s face, causing her body to tremble.
“Just now… you called me a little brat, didn’t you?”
A childlike voice tinged with amusement came through.
“If, if you’ve got the guts, just kill me.”
The woman’s pupils were dim, recalling the earlier scene, she still couldn’t believe it.
“Wrong answer.”
As the words fell, the woman lying on the ground felt a sharp pain in her eye socket. Three slender fingers pierced into her eye socket and yanked her eyeball out by force.
“Ah!!”
The woman screamed, flailing her hands forward wildly, trying to grab her enemy.
“I didn’t provoke you, yet you called me a little brat. This is a basic issue of manners. But come to think of it, do you like candy? If you like candy too, I might let you off, since you look so pitiful.”
Gulu crouched in front of the woman, her small hand covered in blood peeling open a candy.
“I, I like it.”
The woman, now only her upper body remaining, was the Spider Woman from before. At that time, she had been calm, searching for prey within Lubei City.
“Really?”
Gulu smiled and stuffed the candy into the Spider Woman’s mouth.
“Is it sweet?”
Gulu gently stroked the Spider Woman’s cheek, her movements tender.
“Very, very sweet…”
The Spider Woman suddenly felt like crying. The other party would often stab her with a dagger for the strangest reasons. Her mouth was full of blood; even if she ate a lump of sugar now, she wouldn’t taste sweetness.
If it were usual, Gulu wouldn’t ‘tease’ her enemies, but she hated being called a little brat. Earlier, Su Xiao had called her that, and Gulu’s anger was already boiling over. The Spider Woman’s “little brat” wasn’t just lighting a fuse—it was shoving the whole torch into a powder keg.
Gulu was furious, and the consequences were severe.
“Very sweet…”
Gulu’s smile gradually faded.
“This candy was originally mine, but now it’s in your mouth. Are you stealing my candy?”
Undoubtedly, this was a death sentence.
“I was wrong.”
After saying this, the Spider Woman was stunned for a moment herself.
“Eh~”
Gulu also paused for a second. The situation was developing oddly. Normally, in such cases, the opponent would curse her as a little bitch.
“You didn’t even curse, and you really do look pitiful. Since that’s the case, you can die now.”
The dagger swept across, and the Spider Woman found release.
“Hey, you over there, you’ve been watching the whole time. Is there something you want?”
Gulu wiped her dagger on the Spider Woman’s corpse, her gaze fixed on the top of a half-collapsed building.
On top of the building stood a strong man draped in a white coat, his arms crossed over his chest. His neatly trimmed beard gave off an air of resilience. As the shockwave swept past, the white coat behind him fluttered.
The man leaped down from the building. He didn’t look at Gulu but approached the Spider Woman’s corpse. Kneeling on one knee, he reached out and gently pressed his hand on her head, muttering something softly—he was praying, offering a prayer for the dead.
After a moment, the man opened his eyes.
“Sanctuary Paradise, Holy Flame. That’s what everyone calls me.”
Blue light flickered in Holy Flame’s eyes, as if blue flames were burning within. The next moment, blue flames surged up his arms.
Gulu’s expression turned serious. This man named Holy Flame was completely different from the Spider Woman; they were opponents on two different levels.
Legendary grade. A dagger embedded with seven gems spun in Gulu’s hand. Some of these gems were legendary grade, others gold quality.
Red light enveloped the dagger. Gulu swung it through the air. Holy Flame, who was walking toward her, immediately tilted his head. A shallow cut appeared on his face.
“Not bad, huh.”
Gulu smiled, then turned and fled.
This bizarre turn of events left the imposing Holy Flame stunned for a moment. Just then, a cloud of red mist surged behind him, coalescing into a humanoid form that stabbed at his back.
As the red mist clone appeared, Gulu, who had pretended to flee, lunged at Holy Flame. This was Gulu—in battle, she used every trick in the book. If necessary, she would even play pitiful. As she put it: “I’m just a kid, why would I follow rules?”
…
A tsunami roared in, the first to suffer were the buildings on the edge of Lubei City. Already riddled with cracks, they shattered instantly under the impact of the dozens-of-meters-high wave.
After the wave smashed through the buildings, its lethality became even more terrifying. The seawater, mixed with steel bars and rubble, formed a natural grinder that would shred any living creature caught in the torrent.
On the east side of the city, inside a factory, Su Xiao dodged an incoming bullet while raising the D·Assassin in his left hand.
Puff, puff, puff, puff, puff.
Five shots later, a contractor from the Apocalypse Paradise side staggered and fell, leaning against a steam engine. The round shield in his hand was nearly shattered, with three intersecting cuts across its surface.
Before the shell casings hit the ground, Su Xiao’s long blade was already raised in front of him.
Clang!
A large axe swung down from above was blocked by Dragon-Slaying Flash. Compared to Buck’s short axe, the force behind this one was far too weak.
While blocking the axe, Su Xiao delivered a straight kick to the abdomen of the contractor wielding it.
A muffled groan. The burly man was sent flying. Mid-air, he spat out a mouthful of blood, his eyes filled with disbelief.
Seeing this, the healer hiding inside the factory immediately stood up. A cluster of emerald light detached from her staff and flew toward the burly man at high speed.
Just after kicking the man away, Su Xiao raised the D·Assassin in his left hand.
Puff, puff, puff.
Three shots, blood splattered. A cluster of green light landed on the burly man, then gradually dissipated. It could heal wounds, but it couldn’t revive a corpse.
As the burly man’s body hit the ground, three contractors wielding melee weapons charged at Su Xiao.
An energy shield appeared beside Su Xiao. He didn’t even glance at the three contractors, instead aiming his gun at the distant healer.
Puff, puff, puff, puff.
Four shots. The healer, hiding behind a metal machine, clutched her head. One bullet pierced her forearm, nearly shattering her skull.
The metal machine in front of the healer was punctured, and scalding steam erupted.
The magazine ran empty. The clip of D·Assassin fell, and a prepared magazine was quickly inserted.
Puff, puff…
Six consecutive shots. Behind a cement wall came the sound of a body falling. The most annoying support-type contractor in this squad was down.
Blood dripped down Su Xiao’s pant leg. He had been controlled for a moment earlier, then subjected to concentrated fire from eight Apocalypse Paradise contractors. After blocking most of the firepower with his counter shield, he began to retaliate.
Eight contractors—not many, but they were well-equipped: a tank, a control specialist, a healer, melee fighters, and a mage—all present.
The first to die was naturally the mage. The water mage, even in death, couldn’t understand why Su Xiao would prioritize taking him out while enduring his teammates’ firepower.
After the mage fell, next was the main tank, then the melee fighters. Now the control specialist was down too, leaving only a trembling healer and three melee fighters.
Su Xiao had originally been searching for Black Bee’s position, but this squad had attacked him first.
The terrified healer tried to peek out, her legs shaking uncontrollably.
Bang!
Sparks flew. A bullet pierced the metal machine, flying right past the healer’s eyes. She collapsed to the ground in fear. In that instant, she had been very close to death. As for her three teammates, they had already fled.
