Chapter 31: I'm Not Your Dish

Inside a trench built from concrete and rebar.

This trench was a full three meters wide, with a stepped front side and shallow caves at the back. These were bomb shelters, used to avoid enemy bombardment.

Snoring echoed through the dim trench. The stench of foot odor mixed with the smell of blood permeated the air. Some soldiers with blood-stained bandages wrapped around their heads were sleeping soundly, others were muttering something deliriously, and a few were kneeling on one knee in prayer.

"God of Dawn resides in my heart, please forgive my sins..."

The little assistant pressed one hand to her chest, muttering prayers under her breath. To make it more convincing, she spoke in a dialect from a small region of the Sun Kingdom.

"A female soldier, if I'm not mistaken, your hometown is Wuya Pan."

A deputy quartermaster from the Sun Kingdom sat beside the little assistant, his attitude very casual.

"Hmm?"

The little assistant had just washed her face, and under the reflection of a distant light, her skin looked very fair and delicate.

The deputy quartermaster nodded and smiled, revealing a gap in his teeth. During the day, he had been hit by the shockwave of a cannon shell, slamming his head into the concrete trench and breaking half of his front tooth.

Seeing the little assistant's pretty face, the deputy quartermaster's heart began to race. After fighting for so long, let alone an assistant with decent looks, anything female could ignite the lustful fire in this deputy quartermaster's heart.

The two grew more familiar as they chatted. This was the main reason Su Xiao brought the little assistant along. She was very familiar with the internal situation of the Sun Kingdom, and with blue contact lenses on, she wouldn't be easily recognized.

This twenty-six or twenty-seven-year-old deputy quartermaster started flirting. The little assistant was very talkative—it was a talent of a chatterbox.

At first, the deputy quartermaster just wanted a quick fling, but after chatting for a while, he found that the little assistant's "character" was quite good. She was the kind of woman you could take back to your hometown and marry after the war.

Looking at the little assistant's cheerful smile, the deputy quartermaster smiled awkwardly, feeling ashamed of his earlier dirty thoughts. Such a good girl, and he only wanted a one-night stand—what a heartless act.

The sharp little assistant noticed this. She clearly didn't want that to happen. If he lost interest, who would lead the way later? How would she kill him then?

After some more conversation, the deputy quartermaster became interested in the little assistant again. Noticing his gradually warming gaze, the little assistant smiled. That's right, otherwise she would feel guilty when she killed him later.

The deputy quartermaster lit a crumpled cigarette and casually asked, "What did you eat for dinner?"

"Compressed rations. Terrible. Some annoying guy wouldn't let me make a fire and even kicked me."

From over ten meters away, Su Xiao glanced at the little assistant.

"You're still growing. You can't just eat compressed rations."

Hearing this, the little assistant almost laughed out loud. She was already twenty years old. Growing, my ass.

"Follow me."

The deputy quartermaster stood up and walked toward one side of the trench. The little assistant swallowed. Clearly, this "newly acquainted" deputy quartermaster was going to give her some special treatment.

The little assistant followed the deputy quartermaster away. Seeing this, the dozen or so soldiers around cursed under their breath, but in their hearts, they were envious.

The deputy quartermaster led the little assistant through several twists and turns in the trench before entering an underground tunnel that led to the inner side of Saint Limen Fortress.

Passing through the underground tunnel, the deputy quartermaster brought the little assistant to the fortress's underground level, eventually arriving at a kitchen. From start to finish, Su Xiao followed about fifty meters behind.

After bribing five cooks with a few packs of cigarettes, they left the kitchen, leaving only the deputy quartermaster and the little assistant inside.

In the spacious kitchen, the deputy quartermaster rolled up his sleeves and asked, "What do you want to eat? A little meat is fine."

"Sir, you're really a good person."

The little assistant looked around the kitchen, making sure no one else was there.

"Taking care of subordinates is what every officer should do."

"Is that so? Then you're a good person."

The little assistant stood behind the deputy quartermaster, a dagger flipping in her hand.

"I wouldn't say I'm a good person..."

The deputy quartermaster stopped mid-sentence. He looked down and saw that, somehow, his arms were covered in blood.

"En—"

Pfft, pfft...

The little assistant grabbed the deputy quartermaster's hair, yanking his head to the side, and stabbed several times into his exposed neck. Her movements were swift and clean, and she finished by driving the dagger into his back.

With a thud, the deputy quartermaster crashed into the metal kitchen table in front of him. His body slid down until he sat on the floor, leaning against the table.

Gurgling sounds came from his throat as he clutched his neck, looking up at the little assistant.

"Sorry, I'm not your dish."

The little assistant stabbed the dagger into his jaw. His body twitched once before going completely still.

"You're a good person, so I gave you a quick death."

The little assistant wiped the blood off her face and quickly walked to the kitchen door. When she opened it, Su Xiao was standing right there.

Su Xiao stepped into the kitchen. The pungent smell of blood made him frown.

"I can't help it. He wanted to sleep with me, so of course I had to stab him a few more times."

The little assistant, blood dripping from her chin, tilted her head in a helpless gesture. If the deputy quartermaster were still alive, he would have roared: "You're the one who seduced me first!"

Su Xiao grabbed a few towels and began cleaning up the bloodstains.

After dealing with the blood and the body, Su Xiao and the little assistant left the kitchen. According to the intelligence the little assistant had gathered, Saint Limen Fortress had ten floors. The second underground floor was for storage—ammunition, food, and flammable or explosive items were kept there. The first underground floor housed the soldiers' dining hall and activity rooms.

Floors one through four were the barracks for ordinary soldiers. Floor five was the officers' living quarters. Floors six through eight stored various heavy weapons.

Su Xiao's destination was the fifth floor of Saint Limen Fortress. Once there, he would activate his detection ability to locate the mission target, Dubois Yis.

After leaving the kitchen, Su Xiao and the little assistant entered the massive dining hall on the first underground floor. Over a thousand Sun Kingdom soldiers were inside.

The little assistant's expression remained calm, and she even greeted a passing soldier. Here, everyone they saw was an enemy. If they were exposed, they would be riddled with bullets in an instant.

Passing through the dining hall filled with the aroma of food, Su Xiao and the little assistant reached the ground floor without incident. There were even more soldiers here, but fortunately, there were no checkpoints. From this point on, it was all about acting.

Su Xiao played his natural role. His blood-soaked aura was the best pass. The little assistant could chat with anyone without revealing any flaws.

Ground floor, second floor. When they reached the second floor, an Apollo appeared in Su Xiao's hand. He stuffed it into a gap under the stairs. An unactivated Apollo was completely inconspicuous.

Soon, Su Xiao and the little assistant reached the fourth floor. Above this was the living quarters of the Sun Kingdom's officers. To enter, they needed identification.

Su Xiao and the little assistant exchanged a glance. She gave him a questioning look.

"Against the wall."

Su Xiao pressed himself against the outer wall of the fortress, staying as far away from where he had placed the Apollo as possible.
