Chapter 27: Bubu Wang’s Happy Hour
The moment Su Xiao left the underground interrogation room, Yierduo, handcuffed to the X-shaped metal frame, began to let her thoughts run wild. She couldn’t understand how Su Xiao knew about her and her master’s situation—even calling out her name. This proved Su Xiao wasn’t just bluffing.
Yierduo’s first reaction was that there was a traitor within their Necromancer Clan. But no matter how hard she racked her brain, she couldn’t think of anyone who might betray them. However, Yierduo wasn’t stupid; she also considered another possibility: that Su Xiao had obtained intelligence on them.
Compared to this, Yierduo had a more pressing matter: finding a way to escape. Her eyes scanned the surroundings but found no usable tools. As for the weapons or tools she had carried, everything except her clothes had been placed on an iron table not far away.
Yierduo began to examine the X-shaped metal frame restraining her. The frame didn’t completely bind her arms; she could move them freely. But metal rings were locked around her shoulders, chest, waist, legs, and ankles. These rings were integrated with the X-shaped frame, all forged from special metal that Yierduo couldn’t break free from.
In fact, there were also metal rings at the position of Yierduo’s hands, but her hands weren’t cuffed. This seemed like Su Xiao’s carelessness or perhaps overconfidence.
Would Su Xiao make such a rookie mistake? Of course not. A good show was about to unfold.
At the entrance to the underground interrogation room, Bubu Wang put away the tablet in his paw. He had just reviewed a certain pirate movie, and one particular scene he “really liked.”
Bubu Wang shook his head, causing a jingling sound from the keyring hanging around his neck. Judging by the shape and size of the keys, they seemed to be the ones for unlocking the X-shaped metal frame.
Bubu Wang raised his front paw and pushed open the door to the underground interrogation room. He seemed to have caught a certain scent and was “drawn” to the room by it.
With a creak, the metal door swung open. Yierduo inside tensed up, her breathing becoming slightly rapid.
But soon, Yierduo relaxed a bit. It was just a dog entering the interrogation room, even though she had never seen a dog of this appearance before.
Bubu Wang’s nose twitched. He seemed attracted by some scent in the room, the source of which was on Yierduo. So, he gradually approached her.
At first, Yierduo was a bit nervous, unsure if the dog was aggressive. If it were, she would be in danger. Her arm movement was very limited, and if the dog bit her legs, she would have no way to defend herself.
But Yierduo quickly realized that Bubu Wang wasn’t aggressive; he was simply drawn by a certain scent.
“Come… here.”
Yierduo’s human language became more fluent. She had specifically studied human language, not out of curiosity about human culture, but because it was the tactical language of the Necromancer Clan. The higher one’s status in the Necromancer Clan, the more proficient in human language they were required to be. The same applied to humans; soldiers knew simple Necromancer language, and the higher their rank, the stricter the requirements.
After a short period of adjustment, Yierduo’s human language gradually became more proficient.
Hearing Yierduo speak, Bubu Wang looked up.
With a jingle of metal, Bubu Wang’s upward movement revealed the keyring hanging in front of his neck.
Yierduo’s gaze fixed on the keyring, and her mouth slowly opened. Based on the size and material of the keys, they were very likely the keys to unlock the X-shaped metal frame. If she could free herself, Yierduo had a high chance of escaping.
Yierduo’s first feeling was disbelief. But after thinking about how this dog could freely enter and exit the basement, she considered a possibility: this dog was probably the pet of that Iron Hand guy. A murderous bastard like that probably had few people willing to interact with him, so a dog would be easier to gain his trust and could also serve as a guard dog.
As for why the keys to the basement were hanging around a dog’s neck, Yierduo didn’t understand. But in her perception, Su Xiao was a freak + monster, so nothing he did was surprising.
“Doggy, come here.”
Yierduo lightly clapped her hands, trying to keep a friendly expression to avoid scaring it.
Bubu Wang took a step forward. He looked up at Yierduo, the keyring around his neck very close to her. Yierduo stretched out her right arm, her fingertips just 2 centimeters away from the keyring. Freedom… was within reach.
“A little… closer!”
Yierduo, straining to extend her arm, clearly began to lose her friendly expression, her teeth grinding audibly.
Her expression seemed to scare Bubu Wang. Sitting on the ground, he scooted back about a centimeter.
“No, no, no. Good doggy, don’t be afraid. Come a little closer.”
Veins bulged on Yierduo’s hand. She was only 3 centimeters away from freedom. Although she wasn’t sure if the keyring could unlock the X-shaped metal frame, it was worth a try.
Once Yierduo’s expression softened a bit, Bubu Wang moved closer. Yierduo’s fingertips successfully touched a key, and a smile involuntarily appeared on her face.
Ding~
Yierduo’s fingernail scraped across the metal key. The cold touch of metal against her fingertip confirmed she was still alive and that this wasn’t a nightmare, but a real event.
“Good doggy, come closer. I’ll give you some candy later…”
Now Yierduo could only touch the metal key with her fingertips; she couldn’t grab the keyring at all.
Bubu Wang, sitting on the ground, yawned. His gaze seemed lacking in intelligence, but this was actually a deliberate disguise by Bubu Wang.
Bubu Wang wasn’t teasing Yierduo; he was gradually wearing down her will, making her oscillate between “freedom” and “captivity,” experiencing the highs and lows of life every half minute on average.
Originally, Bubu Wang thought this was a boring task. But after putting it into practice, he found it was way too damn interesting and very thrilling.
Keep in mind, Yierduo’s combat power wasn’t weak. If she managed to catch Bubu Wang, he wouldn’t have a good time. He wouldn’t die, of course, since Yierduo had already been beaten half to death by Su Xiao. But if Yierduo grabbed him with both hands, Bubu Wang would definitely experience a major rollercoaster in his dog life.
This feeling of frantically testing the edge of death fully activated Bubu Wang’s goofy nature. As they say, death is like the wind, always by the dog’s side.
“You damn dog, get closer to me!”
When Yierduo’s fingertips brushed past the keys for the thirtieth time, she was mentally collapsing. Emotions like anxiety, frustration, longing, and tension surrounded Yierduo. Without her realizing it, her willpower was being gradually eroded.
Hearing Yierduo curse him, Bubu Wang scooted back again.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry. You’re a good dog. No, you’re humanity’s most loyal companion. You know, we Necromancer Clan also raise canines, so we’re not enemies. Come closer, yes, like that.”
Hearing this, Bubu Wang scooted forward again.
Yierduo’s mouth opened and closed. She had a lingering doubt: could this dog really understand what she was saying? This gave her an absurd thought: that this dog seemed to be teasing her, using the keyring around its neck to do so.
