Chapter 49: News of the Outsider
“State your terms. I know you have a way.”
Obito seemed to have anticipated this. Sasuke, lying on the ground, stiffened. He had been awaiting death, only for a sudden reversal.
“Have White Zetsu find someone for me. I don’t mean casually—I mean a full-scale search for that person.”
“…”
Obito hesitated. White Zetsu was a crucial part of his plan, currently scouring the world for intelligence and searching for Konan. Having White Zetsu find someone wasn’t difficult, but if that person had nothing to do with Obito’s plans, it would be a significant loss. What he lacked most right now was time.
Unfortunately, Obito desperately coveted Sasuke’s Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, something he couldn’t afford to miss.
“Who is it? What are their traits?”
Obito didn’t agree outright but probed instead.
“Traits…”
Su Xiao found himself at a loss. He didn’t even know the outsider’s gender, let alone their features, or even if they were human.
“I don’t know.”
“?”
Obito clearly didn’t understand.
“Let me get this straight—you want White Zetsu to find someone, but you have no idea what they look like?”
Obito sensed trouble brewing. He continued, “Male or female?”
“Ahem.”
Su Xiao coughed lightly. Bubu Wang had already shut its eyes in despair, guessing who Su Xiao wanted White Zetsu to find.
“For now… unclear.”
Hearing this, Obito’s expression froze beneath his mask. He couldn’t help but wonder if Su Xiao had some personal grudge against Sasuke.
“Sasuke, it seems you’re doomed.”
Obito shook his head, ready to reluctantly abandon Sasuke’s Eternal Mangekyo.
Sasuke, lying on the ground, opened and closed his mouth. The rollercoaster of life and death was too intense. A moment ago, he had hope of survival; now, he seemed doomed. He knew that searching for someone of unknown gender, age, and appearance was even less likely than his own self-healing.
“It’s not entirely without clues. First, that person’s behavior is very abnormal—they’re cautious in everything they do.”
Su Xiao offered the first piece of information. This wasn’t baseless speculation. Imagine: when a contractor enters another Paradise’s derivative world, no matter how arrogant their personality, they’d keep a low profile. Otherwise, they wouldn’t become an outsider.
“Almost any Anbu ninja fits that description—sneaking around during missions.”
Obito shook his head, indicating the clue was useless.
“Second, that person acts without considering consequences.”
Obito shook his head again. Among those present, most seemed to act recklessly; otherwise, they wouldn’t have attacked the Five Kage Summit.
“That person might be very unlucky.”
This guess was purely Su Xiao’s own. He speculated that the Naruto world might mildly reject such outsiders.
Without the Reincarnation Paradise’s disguise, Su Xiao would also face this rejection, since he was teleported into this world.
“Most importantly, that person’s abilities might be abnormal—powers never seen in the ninja world.”
Hearing this, Obito’s eyes narrowed.
“Abnormal abilities…”
Obito seemed to recall something suspicious. He said, “Three days ago, White Zetsu detected a strange fluctuation near Kumogakure. It was similar to Explosion Release, and your bombs too, but with a wider range. That weapon creates a ‘mushroom of flame’ upon explosion, and the blast zone contains an invisible poison.”
“Mushroom of flame… invisible poison? Completely different from ninjutsu?”
Su Xiao’s eyes seemed to gleam.
“Yes, completely different from ninjutsu.”
“That’s it.”
Su Xiao had only been guessing before, but now he could confirm the outsider had appeared near Kumogakure.
Contractors’ abilities varied widely; some even used mechs to fight in the Naruto world, which was highly abnormal.
Forget mechs—Su Xiao’s tablet alone would arouse suspicion among plot characters. Yet both Obito and Karin quickly accepted it, even if they didn’t understand its function or principle.
This was due to the Reincarnation Paradise’s disguise mechanism. Contractors’ abilities, after being disguised by the Reincarnation Paradise, were easily accepted by plot characters without suspicion. Otherwise, contractors couldn’t operate normally in the Naruto world.
Based on Su Xiao’s guess, the outsider likely lacked this disguise. His reasoning was that the Naruto world was Reincarnation Paradise’s territory. Even if contractors from other Paradises entered, they couldn’t be fully disguised.
Finding violators was second nature to Su Xiao, as they often exhibited abnormal behavior—skipping main quests, never using the derivative world communication platform, disregarding world stability, and frequently causing mass contractor deaths.
Outsiders were different. Literally, they were likely contractors from other Paradises. If so, they wouldn’t have violators’ traits. If an outsider blended in with friendly contractors, even Su Xiao, with Sherlock-level deduction, couldn’t find them in such a vast world as Naruto.
Su Xiao’s guess was that the outsider likely lacked disguise abilities—meaning their powers would appear abnormal to plot characters, things that shouldn’t exist in this world.
“I can save Sasuke, but White Zetsu must search for that person with full effort. Deadline: one month. Once found, just tell me where they are.”
“I can have White Zetsu search, but I can’t guarantee finding them within a month.”
Obito didn’t agree outright, which made him more trustworthy. Those who readily slapped their chests and promised were the least reliable. If Obito had done that, Su Xiao would have considered switching partners.
“Full effort is impossible. White Zetsu’s main body needs to find Konan, but all his clones will search for that person. Also, the Akatsuki has many rogue ninja—weak in combat, mostly for intelligence gathering. I can have them search too.”
“Deal.”
Su Xiao and Obito reached an agreement, easing Su Xiao’s mind. Finally, news of the outsider.
Su Xiao had anticipated Obito would come to him for help—not just about treating Sasuke, but regarding the Nine-Tails.
“Is there an operating room here?”
“Yes. At the far end of the base, fully equipped.”
Obito headed deeper into the base.
“Then prepare for surgery. Uchiha Sasuke—by the way, you won’t enjoy this process.”
Su Xiao signaled Amu to pick up Sasuke. Sasuke breathed a sigh of relief; he finally had hope of survival. He still had too much to do. As for Su Xiao’s “you won’t enjoy this process,” Sasuke ignored it. He was a ninja; pain was something he could endure.
Was that really the case? Comparing Nagato to Sasuke, Nagato, whose body was severely drained by the Rinnegan, had pain tolerance dozens of times greater than Sasuke’s. Every day he lived, he endured agony that would drive ordinary people mad.
Even so, after Su Xiao operated on Nagato, Nagato looked at Su Xiao with some trepidation. Nagato once told Konan that Su Xiao was a true demon + devil during surgery. If given another chance to choose whether to undergo that operation, he would hesitate for a long time.
Now, young Sasuke seemed unconcerned about Su Xiao’s surgical process. This would teach him a lesson in a dozen hours—an unforgettable one.
