Chapter 135: Black Demon
Feeling the coldness at his throat, the black-clothed man swallowed hard, producing a gurgling sound. Cold sweat soaked his back.
"This is the Heavenly One Academy. Within the academy, fights are allowed, but killing is absolutely forbidden."
The black-clothed youth forced out these words with difficulty, his speech slightly slurred.
"I know," Lin Feng replied indifferently, sparking a glimmer of hope in the black-clothed youth's heart.
"However, I also know that the Heavenly One Academy does not permit others to disturb those cultivating in the training stone chambers. And what did you do?"
Lin Feng's words made the black-clothed youth freeze, his heart turning cold once more.
"I admit I broke the rules, but it seems there weren't any serious consequences. If you kill me, though, that would be a completely different matter."
"Are you threatening me?" Lin Feng extended his longsword slightly forward, causing the black-clothed youth's body to tremble violently again. Sweat dripped from his forehead.
"No serious consequences?" Lin Feng glanced at the haggard Liu Fei and said coldly, "That's your opinion. In my eyes, the consequences you caused are worth more than ten of your lives. Your worthless life—killing it counts as a consequence?"
"You can't kill him."
Cui Ting beside him repeated these words again. Lin Feng turned his head slightly and looked at Cui Ting.
"You can't kill him, or you'll regret it."
"I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. I never regret anything I do." Lin Feng's hand moved, startling Cui Ting, who shouted, "Wait a moment."
"Do you have something else to say?" Lin Feng swept his gaze over Cui Ting, who said seriously, "He is the younger brother of Black Demon. If you kill him, Black Demon won't let you go."
"Black Demon!"
Hearing these two words, many in the crowd who had gathered to watch were startled. It was actually Black Demon.
Among the crowd, Yuan Shan's expression also froze. He had certainly heard of the name Black Demon.
"Lin Feng, Black Demon is one of the top ten powerhouses of the Heavenly One Academy. He rarely trains in this training tower, and if he does, it's usually on the first floor," Yuan Shan reminded Lin Feng from within the crowd. Black Demon was indeed not someone to be trifled with.
Lin Feng's eyes flickered. The black-clothed youth, staring intently at Lin Feng, once again showed a glimmer of hope on his face.
"That's right, I am Black Demon's own younger brother. If you kill me, you will die without a doubt."
"Idiot."
Hearing the other's threatening tone, Lin Feng's hand trembled. Instantly, the longsword was driven directly into the opponent's throat. In that moment, everyone's gazes froze completely.
No one had expected that after hearing the name Black Demon, Lin Feng would so decisively use his longsword to kill the black-clothed youth, without even a moment's hesitation.
The black-clothed youth hadn't expected it either. Just as his hope had begun to rise, despair came so quickly. Even as Lin Feng's longsword pierced his throat, his mind was still racing.
He hated himself. Why had he provoked this demon, Lin Feng? In truth, there was no great enmity between him and Lin Feng, yet in the end, he had paid with his life for this minor grievance. He was, indeed, an idiot.
"What a reckless man." Cui Ting took a deep breath. He, too, had never imagined that Lin Feng would thrust that sword at this moment, even after someone had told him about Black Demon's identity.
Lin Feng pulled out the flexible sword, wiped the blood from the tip, sheathed it, and then looked at Cui Ting.
"If it weren't for that Black Demon, would he have dared to break the rules?" Lin Feng pointed at the fallen corpse and asked calmly.
Cui Ting was stunned, then nodded. That was right. Without Black Demon, the black-clothed youth wouldn't have had the nerve.
"So, the one who really broke the rules was Black Demon. And my friend being harassed for a full hundred days—that's inseparable from Black Demon, isn't it?"
Lin Feng spoke again, making Cui Ting's pupils contract sharply. So that was it. He finally understood why Lin Feng had thrust that sword at that moment.
It wasn't that Lin Feng hadn't considered Black Demon. On the contrary, Lin Feng had taken Black Demon into account. But what Lin Feng considered wasn't Black Demon's formidable strength, only the enmity between them. It was Black Demon who had caused Liu Fei to suffer a hundred days of harassment. So, with that sword, he told everyone—and told Black Demon—that no one should provoke him, or else, no matter who it was, he would kill.
"Let's go back," Lin Feng said to Liu Fei beside him.
Liu Fei nodded slightly, then joined Yuan Shan and Jing Yun, who were already in the crowd, and they left together, leaving behind Cui Ting, still standing there in a daze, and the cold corpse on the ground.
"What's your name?" Cui Ting called out to Lin Feng's retreating figure.
After a moment, a faint reply came back, two words: Lin Feng.
"Lin Feng!" Cui Ting silently memorized the name. The crowd also remembered it. Someone who dared to provoke Black Demon—it was impossible not to remember.
Some time after Lin Feng left, the number of people on the tenth floor of the training tower didn't decrease but instead grew larger.
A corpse. There was actually a corpse in this training tower.
This meant that someone had actually killed someone inside the training tower. Who could be so bold?
Just then, a cold figure stepped onto the stairs and slowly ascended to the tenth floor of the training tower.
With just one glance, this cold youth saw the corpse on the ground, but his eyes showed no unusual expression. They remained as calm and cold as ever.
The surrounding crowd moved far away, looking at this figure with awe in their eyes.
Black Demon. Among all the disciples of the Heavenly One Academy, including those from the other two departments, he ranked tenth, with immense strength.
"Who killed him?" Black Demon asked calmly, his tone so flat it was frightening.
"Lin Feng." Cui Ting walked up to Black Demon and replied, "I'm not as strong as him."
Black Demon said nothing. He glanced at the corpse on the ground and said indifferently, "Have someone carry him back to my clan. Also, look into that name you mentioned."
With that, Black Demon turned around and walked away with light, unhurried steps down the stairs.
...
Back at the ancient castle where they lived, Lin Feng greeted everyone and was about to head to his own quarters.
"Can't wait to go see someone else?" a voice sounded, making Lin Feng stop in his tracks.
Turning around, Lin Feng's eyes held a hint of amusement as he looked at Liu Fei, who had spoken, with a half-smile.
"Does it bother you?" Lin Feng asked with a smile.
"Why would it bother me?" Liu Fei averted her gaze and said indifferently.
Lin Feng's lips curled into a slight smile. "Since it doesn't bother you, then why do I hear a sour note in your voice?"
"Maybe there's something wrong with your ears." Liu Fei glared at Lin Feng. This guy, what was with that look? He kept staring at her.
"Is that so?" Lin Feng touched his head and gave a foolish grin. "I just got back, so of course I'm going to my own place. Why do you say I'm in a hurry to see her? Unless... you want me to come sit in your room?"
"You're dreaming." Liu Fei stomped her foot, then turned and ran off toward her own quarters. This guy really had an imagination...
Seeing Liu Fei's reaction, a faint smile flashed in Lin Feng's eyes. He had never noticed before that this hot-tempered, beautiful girl could also be so simple and endearing.
Entering the stone chamber, Lin Feng didn't immediately go to his own room. Instead, he knocked on Meng Qing's door.
"Come in."
A cold voice came from inside. Lin Feng pushed the door open directly and saw Meng Qing leaning by the bed, looking at him as he entered. "You're back."
In the room, Meng Qing wasn't wearing her veil, and her stunningly beautiful face was perfectly revealed to Lin Feng. He couldn't help but marvel again at the wonders of creation, that it could produce such beauty.
Just a bit cold, that's all.
"If Meng Qing had lived in the ancient times of my past life, even a monarch would abandon his kingdom just to win her smile," Lin Feng thought to himself. He also wished Meng Qing wouldn't be so cold. If she smiled more often, what a beautiful sight that would be.
"Did that situation happen again after that day?" Lin Feng walked to Meng Qing's bedside and sat down directly, asking calmly.
Meng Qing looked at Lin Feng and shook her head slightly, saying softly, "Didn't I tell you? The cold energy comes once every half year."
