Chapter 13: On the Life and Death Platform (1)
Without lingering further in the Wind Cloud Gorge, Lin Feng made his way to the top of the canyon.
Standing at the canyon's edge and looking down, the vast gorge stretched out before him. Hundreds of people were either walking, running, or locked in battle, creating a magnificent and turbulent scene. And this was only the open area within Lin Feng's line of sight, at most a few dozen parts of the entire canyon. It was easy to imagine that there were at least several thousand, or even tens of thousands, of people within the Wind Cloud Gorge. Such was the foundation of a sect.
Walking around the canyon, Lin Feng ran into some acquaintances. To his surprise, they turned out to be Han Man and Jing Yun.
"Lin Feng." Jing Yun also spotted Lin Feng and called out to him, a hint of excitement in her voice.
"Jing Yun, you've gotten even more beautiful," Lin Feng said with a smile, offering a compliment. Compared to a few days ago, Jing Yun indeed possessed an added charm. Lin Feng guessed it was the effect of the Beauty Preservation Pill.
Hearing Lin Feng's words, Jing Yun blushed and lowered her head, murmuring softly, "Not at all."
"Haha, Lin Feng, Jing Yun's just thin-skinned," Han Man said, walking over cheerfully. "Lin Feng, we were planning to look for you, but we didn't expect to run into you here."
"Looking for me? Is something the matter?" Lin Feng asked.
"Lin Feng, did you break through after taking the Return Origin Pill?" Han Man looked at Lin Feng with some anticipation. This guy had killed a Nether Wolf when he was only at the Seventh Layer of Qi Martial Realm. After breaking through, he'd definitely be even more terrifying, right?
"Yeah, I just broke through. What about you two?" Lin Feng smiled.
"As expected. I figured if even a dullard like me could break through, you'd have no problem," Han Man said with a grin. "But Jing Yun is still a bit short. Maybe after cultivating a bit longer, she'll break through. Qing Yi hasn't come out yet. I think he's probably close to breaking through too."
Lin Feng nodded. Although Han Man was a rough and careless person, his cultivation base was indeed a bit stronger than Jing Yun's and Qing Yi's, so it was normal for him to break through first.
"Han Man, you still haven't said what you wanted to see me about."
Han Man rubbed his big head, looking a bit embarrassed, which left Lin Feng speechless.
"Lin Feng, I'm at the Eighth Layer of Qi Martial Realm now, and I want to go into the Wind Cloud Gorge to train. But with my cultivation, I'll probably just end up getting beaten. I wanted to ask for your help. Of course, as long as the opponent doesn't go too far, you don't need to step in. I've got thick skin."
Han Man grinned as he spoke. Lin Feng immediately understood what he meant. For these few rare friends, he certainly wouldn't refuse such a small request.
"When?" Lin Feng asked directly.
"Tomorrow. I'm planning to get a few masks first," Han Man said. Seeing Lin Feng agree without hesitation, he admired Lin Feng even more. This guy was not only freakishly strong but also had no trace of arrogance. He was impeccable towards them, his friends. After all, in the Black Wind Ridge, Lin Feng had taken down almost all the beast cores, but he still split the exchanged treasures equally with them.
"Alright. Just give me a shout when the time comes," Lin Feng said readily. Many people who entered the canyon chose to wear masks. After all, if you fought someone and lost, you'd lose face; if you won, you'd make enemies. Wearing a mask avoided those troubles.
"I want to go too, Lin Feng. You have to protect me well," Jing Yun said in a coquettish voice, making Lin Feng pause. Then he and Han Man both stared at Jing Yun.
"What are you looking at?" Jing Yun rolled her eyes at the two of them, lightly stomping her foot.
"Nothing, nothing," Lin Feng said, still smiling. Seeing Jing Yun act so girlish, both he and Han Man found it a bit strange. Han Man, in particular, looked at Jing Yun with a very ambiguous expression. The way she'd said Lin Feng needed to protect her well just sounded so natural.
"You can come too, but we'll have to keep a low profile," Lin Feng said after thinking for a moment. There were many experts in the Wind Cloud Gorge, even inner sect disciples. However, inner sect disciples were generally aloof and wouldn't bother with outer sect disciples. So, with Lin Feng's strength, he believed he wouldn't face too much trouble in the Wind Cloud Gorge.
After all, what happened today was definitely an exception—running into a top-ten outer sect expert and an inner sect powerhouse.
After discussing it, the three of them parted ways. Lin Feng returned to his dwelling to continue cultivating, training without rest. What had happened today only strengthened his resolve to become stronger.
Early the next morning, Han Man first came to find Lin Feng, and then the two of them went to find Jing Yun together.
The Cloud Sea Sect was enormous. Even the living quarters for outer sect disciples were divided into several areas.
Lin Feng and Han Man arrived at the place they had agreed upon with Jing Yun. At that moment, Jing Yun's expression didn't look good. Standing in front of her was a young man, who seemed to be saying something to her.
"Jing Yun, what's going on?" Lin Feng walked over and asked Jing Yun.
"Scram, you waste. Can't you see I'm talking to Jing Yun? What right do you have to interrupt?" The young man speaking to Jing Yun narrowed his eyes and said to Lin Feng. He knew Lin Heng, so he also recognized Lin Feng.
"Lin Feng, you're here." Jing Yun ignored the young man and smiled at Lin Feng.
"Yeah, let's go." Lin Feng swept a cold glance at the young man, then turned and left with Jing Yun.
"Wait, Jing Yun." The young man stepped forward, trying to grab Jing Yun.
"Get lost. Who do you think you are?" Lin Feng waved his hand, unleashing the domineering Ninefold Wave from his palm. The powerful force sent the young man, who was at the Seventh Layer of Qi Martial Realm, flying backward. He spat blood and stared at Lin Feng in shock.
"Waste." Lin Feng returned the two words to him without even pausing his steps, leaving the young man's face ashen. When had this waste become so formidable?
"That guy really doesn't know his limits. Jing Yun, who is he?" Han Man walked alongside Lin Feng and asked Jing Yun.
Hearing Han Man's question, Jing Yun frowned deeply. She looked at Lin Feng and Han Man and said, "He said he saw Jing Feng's corpse in the Black Wind Ridge, killed with a single cut to the throat. And Jing Feng's older brother, Jing Hao, is now looking for Jing Feng. So, he came to threaten me."
Han Man was stunned. No wonder Jing Yun's expression was so bad.
"What's coming will come sooner or later. Let's just take it as it comes," Lin Feng said casually, not too concerned.
"That's right. As long as he's not an inner sect disciple, he wouldn't dare touch us within the sect. Of course, we still need to be careful in the Wind Cloud Gorge," Han Man nodded.
Before long, three figures descended from the sky along iron chains and landed in the Wind Cloud Gorge. All three wore masks—they were Lin Feng and his companions.
Their landing spot was next to an earthen fortress. This fortress was very large, equivalent to several dozen ordinary households. It was built from earth but was extremely sturdy, standing firm against wind and rain. There were many such earthen fortresses in the Wind Cloud Gorge.
Han Man reached out and touched the fortress wall, but no yellow dust stuck to his hand. He wondered how the fortress was built.
Just then, a figure walked out of the fortress. This person was also wearing a mask. He glanced at Lin Feng's group of three, then quickly turned and ran off, leaving Lin Feng and the others stunned.
Then the three of them understood and exchanged smiles. The people who entered the Wind Cloud Gorge were all fairly strong, usually at the Seventh or Eighth Layer of Qi Martial Realm or above. Since martial artists couldn't see each other's cultivation levels, in this situation, with Lin Feng's group of three sticking together, it was only natural for others to run away quickly.
Who knew if these three had teamed up to bully people? After all, this wasn't uncommon in the Wind Cloud Gorge.
"It looks like we need to spread out a bit," Lin Feng said with a smile. He then stepped back. This time, it was mainly Han Man who wanted to train. Lin Feng just needed to watch from behind.
