Chapter 529: Shiliew of the Rain
Magellan released a cloud of poison, which caused the prison breakers to become poisoned, but the price was that he was slashed twice in a row by Ian!
The deep purple poison cloud could block the vision of most people, preventing them from seeing anything, but this definitely did not include Ian, because his Psychic Field was now enveloping the entire fourth level of the prison. He could clearly sense every move Magellan made.
After landing those two slashes on Magellan, Ian also discovered a problem: Magellan didn’t seem to know Armament Haki. When Ian struck him, he never used any Haki to defend himself, relying solely on his own endurance to withstand the blows.
This struck Ian as quite strange. Based on Magellan’s strength, even if he wasn’t top-tier, he was definitely on par with a Vice Admiral. Most Marine Vice Admirals could use Haki, so why couldn’t Magellan?
What Ian didn’t know was that Magellan actually did have Haki, but the awkward part was that the Haki he had awakened was Observation Haki.
Observation Haki, if trained well, could be extremely powerful. But the problem was that due to his Devil Fruit ability, Magellan was constantly suffering from diarrhea, spending ten hours a day on the toilet. How much time did he have left to train his Haki?
Moreover, Magellan’s personality favored confined spaces—essentially, he was a shut-in. That made it even less likely for him to engage in much physical activity.
Add to that his massive build, which made mobility something he was not good at. In short, one word could describe him: cumbersome.
This was why his Haki was so awkward. Observation Haki could let him sense an opponent’s movements, but Magellan didn’t have the speed to dodge them.
This was Magellan’s weakness. His Venom-Venom Fruit made his entire body covered in deadly poison, so he wasn’t afraid of close-quarters combat. If he could have trained his Observation Haki well, he wouldn’t have feared ranged attacks either. In that case, his strength could have reached the level of a Marine Admiral.
Over the years, Impel Down had imprisoned many dangerous criminals, many of whom could use Haki, yet Magellan had still subdued them. But now, facing someone like Ian—who had speed, Haki, and immunity to his poison—Magellan found himself in a tight spot.
Having been hit three times in total, Magellan endured the blows with his body, but he was now covered in blood from the cuts, suffering severe injuries.
The two slashes that had just hit Magellan were Ian’s Steel Tempest from Yasuo’s card. So after those two strikes, Ian suddenly swung his sword forward.
Whoosh! A rapidly spinning tornado immediately surged toward Magellan’s direction!
Magellan’s poison cloud was most effective in an enclosed space, but its nemesis was wind. Ian’s only wind-based ability at the moment was Yasuo’s whirlwind, so he used it without hesitation, deliberately increasing his Psychic Power output to enhance the tornado’s power, hoping to blow away the pervasive purple poison mist.
Magellan, within his own poison cloud, was unaffected and could see Ian’s movements clearly. The moment Ian’s tornado was unleashed, he sensed trouble. His body immediately formed another long poison dragon, and he tried to escape through a poison tunnel. But Ian’s tornado came fast and fierce. Magellan had only slid a short distance through the poison tunnel before the tornado caught him!
The tornado lifted Magellan off the ground, spinning his massive body high into the air. Ian instinctively wanted to follow up with Last Breath to finish him off, but he suddenly realized something was wrong and stopped himself.
Last Breath involved a heavy downward slash. Under normal circumstances, it would deal massive damage to Magellan. But their battlefield was on a bridge. If he slashed Magellan down, he might collapse the bridge!
Below was a pool of magma. If the bridge collapsed, everyone would fall in. Ian couldn’t save that many people alone, so he had to hold back.
Even so, Magellan, caught in the tornado, was thrown down and landed in a daze.
“Lightning Gun!” Ian casually threw a bolt of lightning straight at Magellan. Magellan had just struggled to his feet when the Lightning Gun hit him, piercing through his thigh. Crackle! Electricity burst across Magellan’s body, turning him black and charred as he collapsed again.
Ian looked around and noticed that after his tornado had swept through, the surrounding poison cloud had been dispersed somewhat. But it was too late. Luffy and the others had already fallen. Only Law, Franky, and Brook were still holding on. Brook was fine because he had no respiratory system, but Law and the others were at their limit.
Scanning the situation, Ian quickly analyzed the battlefield. He had to take down Magellan quickly to treat them.
On this bridge, he couldn’t use large-scale sword slashes. So Ian flashed onto Magellan’s body, stepped on his chest, and raised Thousand Cherry Blossoms to stab down.
But at that moment, Ian’s instincts flared, sensing danger. He immediately leaped away from Magellan. As he jumped, a sword slash passed right beneath his feet!
“Who’s there?” Ian looked toward the direction the slash had come from.
At the end of the bridge ahead, a figure slowly emerged from the poison mist. He wore a tilted Impel Down guard cap, a crisp black uniform, a white-collared cape, high leather boots, and a long, red-glowing sword at his waist.
Although the figure wore a gas mask, Ian immediately recognized him and frowned. Wasn’t this the head jailer of Impel Down, Shiliew of the Rain?
Ian thought this guy was still locked up. Who had let him out?
“Hehehe! Magellan…” Shiliew appeared, laughing sinisterly. “See? Without me, you can’t do anything…”
Magellan lifted his head from the ground, looking at Shiliew with an indescribably complex expression. “Who let you out?”
“Who else? Your ambitious subordinate, Hannyabal!” Shiliew’s voice sounded muffled through the gas mask, laced with mockery. “But I didn’t expect him to look so grotesque…”
Shiliew was referring to Hannyabal’s appearance after Law’s Surgery Fruit had modified his body.
“Where is he? Why isn’t he here with you?” Magellan asked.
“Dealing with someone like Black Dragon Ian, he’s useless. So I had him wait in Level 6 for orders,” Shiliew said.
But outside the cell where Shiliew had been imprisoned in Level 6, Hannyabal and several prison guards lay in pools of blood… It was nothing like what Shiliew had claimed about him waiting for orders.
Hannyabal had originally been ordered by Magellan to go to Level 6 to transfer Sea Knight Jinbe and Sand Crocodile. However, when he reached Level 6, Ian and Magellan were already fighting. At that moment, Hannyabal had seen through the monitors the first slash Ian landed on Magellan.
In Hannyabal’s mind, although he had always wanted to take Magellan’s position as warden, he knew Magellan was incredibly strong. For twenty years, Magellan had suppressed countless prisoners in the prison without ever being injured.
But now, that image shattered as Magellan was wounded by Ian. Hannyabal saw for the first time that Magellan could be hurt, and in the footage, the Warlord Black Dragon Ian was completely immune to Magellan’s poison!
Suddenly, Hannyabal became panicked. He wasn’t stupid; he knew that if things continued, Magellan would eventually lose to Ian.
And at that critical moment, he saw the imprisoned head jailer, Shiliew.
Hannyabal didn’t have the authority to release Shiliew. Shiliew had been arrested by Magellan himself for indiscriminately killing prisoners. Without Magellan’s order, no one could release him.
But… if Warden Magellan were killed, what use would his orders be?
Moreover, Shiliew knew exactly what was happening above and began to manipulate Hannyabal. The already flustered Hannyabal ultimately believed Shiliew’s words and released him! He hoped Shiliew could help Magellan repel Ian, who had come to break out prisoners.
What he didn’t expect was that Ian’s arrival would lead to Shiliew’s early release, and also to his own premature death at Shiliew’s hands!
